vellum makes beautiful layers under photos, and can be stacked with bits of other patterned papers. You can emboss it too.

I love how Wilna Furstenberg uses large sheets of vellum in "Hello Sunshine!" and "Sunshine Documented."

In this layout I added die-cut years to the vellum in the background, one for each year of my grandmother's life.

I've used it to journal on and then mat on a piece of patterned paper.

I love using it over a photo w/a shape cut out of the middle so it highlights a portion of the photo, blurring the background.

Patterned paper too bright or busy?..put a piece of vellum over most of it. Mostly I journal on it.

And the King will tell them, when you did it to one of the least of these, you were doing it to me.

I really like how Ali Edwards used vellum on her project life spread on her blog yesterday. If you scroll down a bit, you can see where she journaled on some vellum, cut a heart out of it, and used it as an overlay on a photo to highlight that one portion. Thought it was a neat idea and could easily be used in a traditional layout, too.

What weight vellum is good? I saw some on Amazon and wanted to pick some up for printing on and handwriting as well.

I have no idea! Every time I find some that I really like, I swear I'm going to write down where I got it but I never do. Sorry.

I am making 8x8 books for my grandsons and on page 1 is a info type of page with birth info and on this page I use a smaller piece of vellum that I run thru the printer and I have all of their info on it and then attach it to the 8x8 page sometimes I "outline" the vellum with ink or chalk on the edge to help make it pop.

And I have used it make ghost for halloween pages. and butterflies.

Here are my ideas:

1. pocket page--12x7--sew, staple, or use brads to hold in place on background paper

2. small envelopes to hold tickets,tags,3x4 cards,labels,etc.--patterns available on cutting machines or on web, or I just took apart a small envelope to use for a pattern. Affix with glue dots on seam lines, sew, etc.

3. Use large strips or pieces for layering either over or under. Check out GG Celine Navarro's Christmas layout.

4. Great for printing titles, journaling, tags, etc. I print with an inkjet and never have problems with ink drying, but be sure to print on the appropriate side.

5. Print photos right on the vellum.

Happy scrapping,
JamieH
