Let's talk tape!
You might be asking yourself - what is washi tape??? To put it simply, washi tape is a high quality masking tape made of rice paper. Washi Tape comes from Japan, is a paper tape that comes in pretty colors and patterns. It comes on a roll like regular sticky tape, and is often translucent. You can find it in 1/4" widths up to 2 1/2", and it feels more like masking tape than true "paper". Since hitting the crafting world by storm, many major scrapbooking companies have come out with their own versions.
But more than that, washi tape is a material which is beautiful yet useful at the same time. You can tear it, stick it, reposition it, write on it... The low tack adhesive makes it extremely easy to use (and reuse). I think it is so popular because it is so easy to use - and looks good while doing it!
So, based on a request from a new swapper, I decided to host a FLAKER FREE Washi Tape swap.
What are we going to be Swapping?
This swap is to get a variety of tape in colors and patterns. You will need to send in 5 spools of the same tape for each spot you sign up for. Each spool MUST have 5 feet of tape. You may sign up for more than 1 spot, but the tape must be different for each spot. (The tape has approximately 50 feet of tape, so you will still have about 25 ft of your tape left). You are welcome to let me know what color/pattern you will be sending but I will try to make sure everyone gets a large variety in return. For this swap, no handmade tape will be allowed. Depending on how this swap goes, maybe a handmade washi tape will be in the future.
Due Date: NO LATER than April 17, 2012. Whatever rolls I have in my hand on this date will be swapped out and will be postal back to you the following day (4/18). Therefore, this is flaker free!
Shipping: Please send me as much as it cost you to ship to me. PLEASE also send me a piece of paper with your name and address AND your peaname also ALONG with a return envelope. Please package EACH SET of 5 in a baggie with your name and peaname. I think the bubble wrap envelopes will be the best way to ship these to me unless you have multiple sets. I know that the padded flat-rate envelopes cost $5.30 to send and I have a few of these so if you want me to use these, just let me know and send the appropriate shipping funds.
The spools can be purchased at Michaels and other craft stores and also here
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask!

Hey Becky,
I will take 5 spots if that is alright with you. I would really like to have a large variety of different thicknesses of the tapes to make banners and flags. Do you want us to list the colours or patterns that we will be sending? Thanks,

Me! Do we have to buy the tape, or can we make our own? There are lots of tutorials out there on how to make your own tape. Either way, I'm in and will take multiple spots, don't know how many yet. |

Bonnie, I just ordered from HERE
First time ordering from them. I ordered 4 rolls:
Red Ticket
Black Damask
Tiny Pink
Black Scallop
So, for right now, I'll take 4 spots Becky. I would like to try making some of my own, too. I already have the double sided tape, just need some free time to play |

I haven't swapped in ages due to moving and an on-going divorce (21 months and counting), but I would love to be a part of this swap.
I'm going to be shopping in Madison this weekend and there's a cool shop that has lots of washi tape.....will let you know how many groups after I purchase!

PS - after looking at spool size's. Ladys which is the best size to buy to fit 5 foot? Since ive never done this i have no idea. Can we use like the ribbon storage or the floss holders or do I need the actual spool? Thanks |

You are not allowing handmade tapes I hope? I think the quality needs to be there and lets face it...Japanese Washi tape is the best there is. |

nanna2five...that is a good idea just opening a separate group for those who prefer handmade tapes.
I will be the first to admit it here...I dislike handmade simply because you can never get the quality of a manufactured tape...just can't!
sorry girls...call me picky or a supply snob but if I am gonna spend $50 on tape and spools to swap out...I sure don't want someone's idea of masking tape with alcohol ink on it and a rubber stamped image placed on it in return...am I wrong?
I ordered several different tapes from wishywashi that I believe would be versatile in nearly any scrap or mixed media project. Nothing loud or super themed... I did old book text, graffiti, black with script, red tickets, and a few more....Think 7 gypsies meets Tim Holtz.
I think pretty much any polkadot, stripe, houndstooth, check, script would be a safe bet.
I have no doubt that Becky knows my style and won't be sending me neon flowers in return! haha! |

pinestreetjct, I very much see your point about handmade and totally agree that wouldnt be fare at all!!!
I think another good idea would be if she does split it into 2, to list what we are wanting to send ... so say 3 ppl dont send the same one?? That was my concern and voice of saying i'll make my own. But of course nothing handmade can touch store bought either 1 way or to the under of it

I tried to post earlier, but it got crazy busy at work. I originally planned to have a seperate group for handmade tape but have decided that this swap will be just for purchased washi tape.
Depending on interest I may host a handmade washi tape in the near future, then everyone participating will get handmade back. I know some CRAZY TALENTED gals that mentioned they may try some of the tutorials and I can't wait to see what they come up with!! I know it will be beautiful!!! So, if this is something you would be interested in, send me a PM and I will keep a watch on the interest and go from there. |

I ordered my tape on Friday and it came today. I rolled 2 sets on spools I had from another project. Now I just need to buy some more spools. Is it ok if two sets are rolled on a piece of dowel? Two of my tapes are 1 1/4 inches wide, and I'm not seeing spools that size anywhere, so I thought a dowel, trimmed down, would work, if that's ok with you. | |

laura ohio, washi tape is decorative tape and lots of different companies sell them (such as Tim Holtz, and many others). This is posted in the very first sentence of my swap. Since hitting the crafting world by storm, many major scrapbooking companies have come out with their own versions.
Lissa, I think the dowel would be fine. Just something close to the spools is what we're looking for. I will have to hit up M's or HL when my tape arrives so I get the right size. |

IMHO it depends on how much you want to roll. Based on everyone else though, I'd stick to 4 or 5. That will give you 20-25 rolls to make, and is lots of variety. |

Lissa, I agree with bestcee. It totally depends on how many of these rolls you want to "spool". I'm fine with whatever you choose to do. 10 rolls will really give you a big variety but whatever you choose is cool with me. Just let me know what you decide on |

The only spools I have been able to find are way too small. I bought some medium sized wooden clothespins to use instead. Hope that's okay. The clothespins are maybe 3". My tape got here today, of course AFTER I mailed my gift card holders out...Would you mind if I mailed these with your stick pins? |
