Hi everybody. I've only been involved with one swap and have no idea how to go about hosting but I had a swap idea. I'm not sure exactly how this would work but here's my idea.

I was doing some purging and had some good quality, though older products that I was going to get rid of. so I was thinking, is there a way we could list items that we have to trade and some things we would like to get in return and then match up with others who want our stuff. Does that make sense?

Like I could say that I have papers from older Cosmo Cricket lines and a roll of green washi with transparent arrows and in return I would like to get vintage look clear stamps or vintage look embellishments. Then I would get matched with someone who had vintage stuff and wanted what I have.

Maybe it would get too complicated but I think it could be cool too. Anyway, Any brave souls out there who want to give it a try?

I've thought about doing the same thing. It would be kinda like the PIF thread on the FSOT board. It would be an easier way of listing what you have on hand and what you want in return.

I might kick the idea around and start a thread tomorrow if there is any interest. Anyone?

Yes, exactly. The PIF thread gave me the idea. I've often thought to myself, "I wish someone would ask for XYZ"

I have seen these done as kind of a round robin thing. The first person (hostess) stuffs full a flat rate box of stuff she is ready to pass along. Then she sends it to the next person on the list. That person then goes through the box and takes out what she wants and replaces it with her own items of similar value and mails to the next person. It continues until it gets back to hostess. I'd be interested in joining if someone hosted this way!

I have seen a facebook shop set up where people posted things for sale and the first person who posted "sold" was the buyer. Maybe we could do a facebook group where we all posted pics of our items and people could claim them. I have lots of older lines that I need to clear through and even extra brads and embellishments that I need to pass along. I live in the country so yard sales really don't go over well and I hate to just throw it away.

We have round robins and they always end with someone keeping the box and falling off of pea-land to never return. I like the idea of one big list and it either being a one on one or a PIF thing. Only bad thing about PIF us one person is up at a time. If we had one master list, then anyone could be posted on the list with what they have and what they want to trade. I'm still thinking about format. I would not mind keeping the list, but the persons trading would have to pmail each other for details AND notify me to remove the product from the list. Sounds time consuming. Unless we set it up like a swap and had an open and close date. Then the list could stay posted for like...2months? And them start a new one? You could decide that whatever you had left could move on to Goodwill or you could try posting it again in the next round...just some ideas. I would like to hear how some of you think it should work and ideas to make it work.

What if we did it in "kits " like the stamp board does? We could open sign ups for 2 weeks and you can post as many kits as you want. A kit would be similar items grouped together. Or grouped by similar color scheme. Or by similar product. Then we could do one of two things 1) list what we would like in return and anyone (and i mean anyone...you dont have to be signed up or have items listed to participate. meaning Sue just stumbled on the swap board and she sees that dulcemama is looking for xyz. Sue could leave a comment that she has that and would be willing to trade for one of the "kits" listed) could swap with you. Or, do a PIF thing where if someone requests your kit and you send it, then you can choose anyone else's kit listed on the thread. Thoughts? Clear as mud?

My issue with PIF threads is that unless it is an item I have been dying to have, the shipping usually isn't worth it. The kit idea does sound good.

Ok. There are two ways to do kits. You create as many kits as you would like, post pictures in you gallery and label each kit. Then you would:

Option 1: if you post 3 kits to the gallery you can select 3 kits from any other player.

Option 2: post kits to your gallery, make a list of what you want to trade for, then ANYONE anywhere can offer a trade if they have the item(s) you want and want one of your kits.

The first option is fun because you post kits according to some established guidelines, then you can shop others kits. The drawback is, all of your kits might get chosen, and you may have found only 1-2 others you liked. It's not a perfect science.

The second option the drawback I see is that you might make some kits, but no one ever offers you what you want. But then again, you could get lucky.

So those are my thoughts on the pros and cons of each option. I will see if I can find the kit thread the stamping board uses for Stamptoberfest. I participated and it was fun.

I love the idea of the first option! Even if you had 3 kits but only found one you wanted, you'd still get rid of a bunch of your old stash.

I like the first idea too. You might see something in someone's kit that you want but didn't think of when making your list.

Will do dulcemama. Just got finished staining and polyurethaning my study floor. About to clean up and watch a movie with the fam. I will post this tomorrow. I will be home all day without interruption and it will take me a bit to type it up and formulate some guidelines!

Here is the thread from Stamptober fest. It was fun making the kits. Here are the rules: PIF pdf from Stamptober fest

I wrote Ann to see if it would be ok for me to use her guidelines. She created the challenge so I just wanted to clear it with her first. If she is ok with it, I may just post this pdf since it is clear and concise. If she does not wish her work product to be used, then I will try to type up some similar guidelines on my own. Instead of posting pics in a challenge gallery, you would either upload them to your profile, or upload them to some other picture server and then send me the link for the main thread.

Sorry it took me so long today... I had to put a second coat of polyurethane on my scraproom floor so I can move in this week...then I got a call from my bank wanting to know if I was trying to debit $370 in Luxembourg, GERMANY! which lead to a canceled debit card and three kids at home with no groceries....today is grocery day. Lots of fun. So, anyway, once I hear from Ann, I will let you all know and post the thread here and on the main forum.

I read through the rules and like the way that it is set up. I would like to ad "items from one brand" or "items from one line" to the categories that kits can be made of. I have things that I would like to put in these types of kits.

I like the "items from one line" idea to add to the list. Also, what about a coordinated kit? Like a card kits put together with items from the list that go together?

Also, is there sample kits somewhere to see? I'd like to get an idea of how much stuff to put in each one.

I'm guessing that the "whatever else you can think of" category covers just about anything but would a "kit" of handmade/swap items I've collected but won't use work?

Ann said that I was welcome to use her PDF. I will retype it into a post along with your "line" or "brand" suggestion.

Here is the thread! I just created it. I will try to put some kits together to post as examples. I am trying to move back into my craft room and my stuff is everywhere!!! Feel free to try your hand at putting together kits and posting in your gallery.
pay it forward thread

A tip is to pull things from your stash, arrange them in kits, take pictures and upload all pictures into your gallery at the same time so they will all be in the same album.

See ya over there!
