While I was looking for help fixing my Keurig, I came across this blog which pretty much sums up my frustration!!

My Keurig stopped working!

Right now I'm taking an online class that starts at 6am which means I don't have time to run to Starbucks before my class. I am going to have to buy a new coffee maker NOW. I was making the arguement to my dh that we need to buy another Keurig because I just bought a bunch of cups at Costco and it makes the perfect cup of coffee when it works. He said we should not be buying a new Keurig if they stop working after a few months.

What you Peas think? Anyone have any recommendations for a different coffee maker or should I just get another Keurig?

We've tried everything to fix it and I think dh may have made it worse by sticking a bamboo kabob stick in it to unclog it.

I am not a coffee drinker, but my husband is. I got him a Keurig for Christmas last year. He had problems with it so he emailed the company. They sent him a new machine without needing to send the first back. In the short time he was waiting for a new maching to be delivered he was able to rig the first machine to work (I think it was overheating). When the new one came he took the old one to work and shares it with some of his coworkers.
Then the second one began having the vacuum issues described in that blog link. He contacted Keurig and again they sent him a new machine. They also registered his machine and sent him coupon for free coffee online. While waiting for the new machine to arrive he found that if he took the cap off the water tank and used his finger to plug the hole at the top that the suction worked again and he can use it.
So now he has a new, still in the box machine from the company that he doesn't want to open until he absolutely has to.

I guess what I'm trying to say is it might benefit you to actually email Keurig. They have had pretty good customer service for us.

After I bought my AeroPress I got rid of all my other coffee makers. It makes the best cup of coffee ever. Follow the directions as to the heat of the water and you will not be disappointed. Like one reviewer noted, the absence of bitterness was surprising. Mmmmm.....

The coffee was good, but my Keurig was so testy that I gave up and went back to a regular coffee maker, a Bunn. I'm loving it so far. Too much stress with the Keurig for me, and the price was a bit much vs. buying a bag of coffee.

Becky, that AeroPress looks interesting. Would it require much thought to make it work first thing in the morning. I need something I could work while I'm still 1/2 asleep.

this is so weird! we have had ours for going on 3 years now or maybe it is 2? it is (I believe) the same model that is shown in that blog. <knock on wood> we have never had any issues with it whatsoever.

it's on ALL THE TIME. the only time it is off for any length is occasionally while DH was away on short deployments. I'd usually turn it off until I wanted to use it.

I wonder if it is a recent issue?

I agree with the blogger though. I don't care, I'd buy one again if it died tomorrow. anything else would feel as archaic as heating a TV dinner in an oven instead of a microwave! What's the point?

I have a Nespresso Latissima and I love it, perfect coffee every time- most of the time it is better than I can buy at a coffee shop

You do have to order the capsules from Nespresso, but they are still cheaper than buying a coffee at Starbucks.

I am on my second Keurig (same problem and model as mentioned in the blog). While I was able to get a second one sent to me by Keurig, it took nearly 4 weeks from the first call. Their technicians were always "busy" and would call me back. Lots of phone tag before I escalated it (and received my replacement). Perhaps they really were inundated with problems but they acted like they had never heard of my problem. Hmmm. Due to their poor customer service, I would think long and hard before buying another one.

However, I have tried other types, including the Aeropress (which makes great coffee but too complicated when I am half asleep). Keurig does make it sooo easy.

I emailed Keurig when my machine had the vaccumn issue. They sent me a new machine too. I didn't have to return the old one either.
The new machine is working just fine. I am very happy with their customer service.

I had the same problem with the Keurig... about 7 months after I bought it... BUT I bought it at Kohls... So I brought it back, and they took it back without any issues... I bought the Cuisinart (also at Kohls, the same day...it uses the Keurig K cups) and have been happy since

I got him the original last Christmas. So far the 3rd one has been fine and he and my SIL use it multiple times a day.

I have that same machine and yes we have had problems with it but I have always managed to get it back to working. I take hot water and fill the tank with the hot water and some vinegar (about 1 cup), it eventually cleans out the system and then works. It is a pain, but I have had it for a over a year now so I am not sure what the company can do now if I complain??

Give it a try...see if it helps?

Supposedly there was a bad batch about a year ago. Keurig was quick to replace mine. Unfortunately, the replacement was in this same batch. This time mine last about 8 months before it started shutting off. Keurig still replaced it, no problems.

All I had to do was send back a small part that cost me a dollar. So far, so good with the new one.

Please call Keurig. They should replace it for you.

My husband installs and repairs coffee makers( including the Keurig) as part of his job. Here is what he suggests: only use filtered or spring water to fill the tank. The minerals or chemicals in tap water can cause problems. Also, if you run tea or hit cocoa k cups, ALWAYS run one cup of plain water (no k cup) through after to avoid buildup and clog. Also, NEVER leave the used k cup sitting in your machine. The small amount that drips out the bottom can solidify and reduce how much eater comes out. It's also gross if you think about it!

I hope this helps someone! The company does have really good customer service. Try calling instead of emailing.

we're on our 3rd machine. this one has lasted longer than the others. we get fast results just calling them, it's never been an issue getting a new machine. they just ask you to do a couple of things, and when it doesn't work, they send you a new one. and we always got it within a week, along with with 2 more boxes of free coffee of our choice. it just sucks sending these huge machines to the landfill, because they do not repair them.

I've got a Cuisnart Keurig coffee maker. Same idea as the regular Keurig but with a bigger tank, a few more options and a rinse cycle. So far its amazing! It takes the K-cups too so maybe that's an option? Its also got a 3 year warrenty instead of the 1 year with a Keurig.

I've had mine for over a year with no problem. If it were to stop working tomorrow I'd buy another one as fast as I could get to either Bed Bath & Beyond or Kohls.

Have you talked with Keurig's customer service?

I've been doing research on the Keurig for the past several weeks because I think I want one but am very reluctant to spend so much money on something that is pretty much guarenteed to work for less than a year. There are very telling reviews on Amazon. I started researching the Cuisinart version of the Keurig and it seems to be much more of a reliable machine that doesn't break down as often. So if I get one, I will get that one.

Becky, that AeroPress looks interesting. Would it require much thought to make it work first thing in the morning. I need something I could work while I'm still 1/2 asleep.
It's not hard at all.

The whole key is in the water temp, you don't add boiling water, just hot water. The other reason it is so tasty is the length of time the water is in contact with the grounds. Here is a demonstration video from the AeroPress website.

The only difference is that I add water almost to the top of the thing and do not add water to the cup of coffee like they show. Cleanup is a breeze and it is top drawer dishwasher safe.

I'm a coffee snob and use distilled water and grind my own beans, but it is loved by both Maxwell House users and total coffee snobs alike. A lot of people have thrwown out their expensive coffee makers in favor of the AeroPress.

the next time ours breaks down, we're upgrading to the cuisinart. we LOVE the coffee, the tea, the hot cocoa, so we don't want to give up it. and the customer service IS great, we've had NO problem getting replacement machines. it's just the fact that the machines keep breaking down that's annoying. but since we don't actually pay anything but shipping back the pod thingie the kcups go into inside the machine, we just deal with it. they have made us ship that back each time we got a new machine as proof that we HAVE the machine when we got a new one, otherwise they would charge us for the new machine.

I'm already a member of the club. Sigh.

I just emailed Keurig about my 2nd machine. It will make one cup, then immediately try to draw water and when it can't it turns itself off. I only use filtered water and have descaled it 3 times. It's all very annoying.

I researched the Cuisinart and it has better reviews, but there are reviews on Amazon where people had the exact same issues that I am having with my Keurig.

It will be interesting if Keurig will send me a *3rd* machine.

In the meantime, maybe I'll try some of those Starbucks instant coffees while I'm waiting. Anyone try those? When I think instant I think Sanka..blech. Do they still sell that stuff??

Is illy available in stores or just mail order?

My Keurig died this week too! (sounds like the vacuum problem). I called Keurig last night, the tech had me try a few things that didn't work, and then said Keurig would ship me a new machine. I should have it in 3-5 days. It was amazingly easy and fast. I was impressed with the customer service but not so much with my machine breaking so quickly and the problems I've read about.

Ugh - Just got the Cuisenart brand today at Kohls with the sale and 30% off... I figured it was a better deal than the Keurig because it came with the single filter thing, no buying extra. BUT ... now you all make me wonder if I should return it.

I got it for DH for christmas because friends of ours got one a month ago and he loved it. And it would be nice to make a cup here or there not just a pot in the morning.

Wow, so many people with problem after problem, obviously this machine is made very poorly. Mine broke after about a year and was barely used. I have wondered about replacing it, but after reading this, I will stick with my regular coffee maker.

We've had ours for a few months and love the speed, variety and ability to brew a single cup at a time. When it started acting up recently, my husband read up and found out about the need to run water through after hot chocolate. He descaled it. But the trick that really helped was that he unplugged it for a while and then plugged it back in. It seemed to reset itself and has worked well since, so that might be worth trying. Good luck!

Funny I would stumble on this thread tonight as I am about to get a replacement shipped after tsalking to them earlier today. I convinced my boss to buy one and he bought one for each house (2) and then had to have them replaced a couple months after buying them. He hasn't mentioned any more problems. Luckily mine broke last week- just a couple weeks before the warranty expired. Even with the issues, I love it!
