What is this number game? I have a bunch of friends on facebook posting numbers and a message to a friend or something like that. What is it? It is annoying.

This is what one of my fb friends posted.

"For those of you who are wondering about the numbers at the beggining of peoples stati(statuses)... this is the reason :]
The Number game! Send me a message with any random # to my inbox and I'll tell you what I love most about you!
That way it's fun but between me and "you" :]

I don't get the point of including a number.

Your friend sends you a random number - like 4875. Then in your status, you post: 4875: You and I had some good times at the town swap meet.

It's supposed to be code.

If there was ever *ANYTHING* annoying to post about on FB, this should be it.

I had to hide one of my best friend's grown daughters for the repeated # posts, and it didn't help that they were all vulgar ...

Luckily, it doesn't seem to be catching on all that much, at least not in my group.

Lame-o. Unless you are in 8th grade I guess. It's like a slam book!

I hate all the immature stupidity that pops up on FB. If you love XXX post this on your wall. I think it all looks so ignorant and childish.

A friend made her first post this morning complaining about the new layout, and that I can understand. She went on to say how she was glad she didn't change her profile to tthe new version and she doesn't even like to go to her friends' pages if they have the new layout because she can't figure out how to leave a post on their wall.

Her following four posts have been the #s junk!

I generally find those repetitive participation posts irritating as hell (bra color, cartoon character, where's your purse). And don't even get me started on "repost this if you __________"

But I don't mind the number thing, I think they're kinda nice. So far all I have seen have been positive messages "thanks for being the brother I can always rely on" that kind of thing. Beats the hell out of "yay - my kid just made poopie" or "need starbucks now... Maybe I just have sappy friends...

edited fix grammar

I thought it was interesting to see the age 'divison' on this one--at least among my friends.

I only saw it on my college-aged cousin's wall, and when I asked DD, 14, she said alot of her friends were doing it.

Friends my age (who had participated in the bra & purse 'inside jokes,'I might add) had no idea what the numbers were, and posted, "What's with the numbers?" which made me

I don't quite get this number thing. Why doesn't the first person just post directly to the second person? On their facebook wall, or in an email. Why say "#345 you're a great friend". Why not just say directly "hey Jane, I'm so glad we're friends!"
