What books would be comparable to the Junie B. Jones series for boys?

Any suggestions?

My one son is REALLY ready for some chapter-esque books along the lines of Junie B., but I am hoping to get suggestions more geared towards boys.

TIA!

I would say Stink Moody, but we read one and I didn't care for it.

When you say comparable I presume you mean the same reading level. In my dd's class the boys are all obsessed with Zac Power. They are small sized chapter books there seem to be quite a lot of them.

My son is 8 and while he's kind of past the Junie B stage, he loved the series when he was in 1st & 2nd grade. I also worked in the library at the school and many of the boys loved Junie B. I think it is universal for boys & girls.

Yep, by comparable I meant reading level.

We have the Junie B. books b/c my dd devoured them. He can definitely read them, I would just like to get him his "own" books for Christmas and dd can share her Junie B. w/ the boys; especially since she's way past them reading wise.

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I brought 100 Cupboards for my 11 year old, he loved Junie B Jones so I hope he likes this series.

Jack and Annie (The Magic Treehouse series) books are very popular with 1/2 graders. There is always Captain Underpants, the boys love them. And Pilkey (Capt. U author) came out with a new book a few months ago too..

Diary of a Wimpy Kid is about being a middle school boy. Not quite the same as Junie B. My four year old dd likes the Junie B stories... but I'm not sure I like them much. She can be a pretty big brat and she mispronounces words all the time... Not sure I like my daughter hearing Junie's pouting or teaching my dd incorrect grammar.

39 Clues series. There's 10 or 12 books now, I think.

I agree with that. When I read them aloud, I would make my own edits. Now that my six year old can read them by himself, no such luck. The other day he had to ask me what a word was and it was a completely made up word. So I had to tell him and say "but that's not a read word." Well, I guess that's not any different than Dr. Seuss. I don't like his made up words either.

Dav Pilkey (Captain Underpants) has another book series which I think is comparable to the June B series. It is Ricky Ricotta. I think there are 8-10 books and both my sons really loved them.

My youngest loved Flat Stanley, the My Weird School Series and also the Secrets of Droon series at that age.

Just after this reading level, he may be ready for the Matt Christopher books...they all include SPORTS. My son devoured them.

Ditto all Gizzard said (especially A to Z Mysteries and the Calendar Mysteries, same author), and will add...

Dinosaur Cove
Flat Stanley
Loud Boy
Mouse and the Motorcycle (not a series)
Henry Huggins (by Beverly Cleary, but about Henry as the main character)
Magic Schoolbus chapter books (not the little preschool ones)
Cam Jansen (about a girl, but my DS is 6 and like these)
Andrew Lost

Dave Barry on Christmas...

I read through and didn't see anyone mention the "Hank the Cowdog" series. Lots of good suggestions here, my sons enjoyed many of those books.

This is a great series! I taught a 2/3 multiage class...THe kids all wanted to read Harry Potter--but the level was beyond many of them!

A mother suggested the Dragon Slayer's Academy. It was a similar story line--but less dark.... I read one to the class as a read aloud and it was a big hit! I had the entire series in the room and they were always being scooped up! My other suggestions have already been listed...

Magic Treehouse is very popular--and there are tons of them!!

DS, now 10, has liked the following series over the past few years:

Geronimo Stilton
Captain Underpants
Weird School
Weird School Daze
Diary of a Wimpy Kid
How to Train Your Dragon
Knights of the Lunch Table
Harry Potter (but he really didn't get into reading those on his own until after he turned 10)

Other Non-Series:

Anything by author Andrew Clements "No Talking", "Frindle", "Lunch Money"
Sir Farts a Lot Hunts the Booger (very boy humor but keeps him reading and that's my main concern)
