I just watched a documentary about the case on Netflix and am amazed at the parents. I do have to agree though, that no one really knows what they would do unless you are in that position.

I am also hoping he will not be released in 2014. I have to agree with his aunt, who feels he should spend the rest of his life in prison.

I'm surprised that I'm not familiar with this case ... can you link some info?

Mason murdered his sister Jennifer. The book is titled 'Life With Murder'. His parents support him, even though he killed their daughter. Not something I would be able to do - the continued support.

Wow. That guy needs to rot in jail for the rest of his life and he should be disowned and shunned by his family. People like that jackass who think they can be so cool and shoot people to solve their problems do not deserve grace, compassion or anything remotely related to kindness. Cases like this piss me off and the compassion I see some people giving these murderers is just ridiculous.

Ok, I watched the documentary last night, and Mason came offals a smug a@@hole to me. I really hope that the parole board will see who he really is and not release him. Do all murderers get such nice neat little cottages for their family visits? it makes me sick that they get more privileges than my Mom does in a Retirement home.

I've never heard of it either. Sounds like a sad story though.

I am just amazed at the parents! I understand that he is all they have left of their family, but knowing that he murdered his sister and that he planned to murder them too, and all for money? Because he felt like he was a loser being a small time criminal, compared to his friends who were doing something with their lives?

If nothing else, it is a remarkable story of unconditional love.

I watched it on Netflix last weekend and can't get it out of my mind. I think it was such a great documentary. I don't know that many parents could make the same choices that the Jenkinses did, but I think they're amazing people.

The defendant is an asshat and I wouldn't blame his parents for telling him to rot in hell. I think he's a smug, spoiled douchebag and if he weren't chilling in prison, he'd be living in his parents' basement.

Yep Mason is a sociopath. It is sooo evident in his behaviours, even now. Whilst banged up he has been using and was caught which is why it bought him another 4 months!
Mason is totally unrepentant, and has a strong feeling of entitlement. He had the audacity to write a complaint letter to the press on their statements about his leave for the Grandmothers funeral in Feb of this year.
I do feel for his parents, specially his father. Harsh tho it maybe I do not feel as much sorrow for his Mom feel the relationship with his mother was always unhealthy and is apparent in her denial and enablement of Mason.
Everything is on Masons terms! When "he" wants to explain about why he did what he did. He is a waste of space!

OMG! It sounds like the case in Texas where a man had his mom and brother murdered. His dad survived. He was injured (had his accomplice shot him) in the "attempted robbery". The level of deceit and determination to kill his family was scary. His name is Bart Whitaker.

His dad also forgave him and is in contact with him.
