I have finally narrowed down my sofa selection to one great looking sofa but it comes in two different lengths and I really want the bigger one but am not sure if it's going to fit.

The room is a smallish sitting/open living room. I only have one wall to put the sofa on and it's 144 inches long. I am leaning toward the larger couch which is 98 inches long. That leaves enough room for one end table. I don't think I could fit a love seat so I really want to maximize the seating.

Here's a picture of the room.

And here's the couch.

What do you think?

PS Before anyone comments, I am painting the room a light grey.

Here is how I have always decided. I lay down on it and imagine myself or someone else sleeping on the sofa for the night. Will it be long enough to not sleep 'crooked'? Even if you have spare beds, there always seems to be a time that someone will sleep on it. Plus, I like the option to sleep on and off, all bundled up while watching tv, when I am sick.

I think it looks really long. It's big enough to seat four but I can't see four people sitting on it - would look like they are riding the bus.

The color looks to be a taupe or grey. I wouldn't paint the walls the same color, I'd pick a complimentary color.

Think about how people sit on sofas if your main objective is more seating. Loveseat, 2 people sit on it. Small sofa, 2 people sit on it, one at each end. Long sofa, 2 people sit on it, one at each end. Nobody sits in the middle of a sofa unless maybe the only other choice is the floor. Get the one that fits the room best.

I recently bought new furniture for my bedroom. In order to determine if the size of furniture I had in mind would fit and be comfortable I measured each peace and cut a piece of cardboard the same size. Then I put it in the room and walked around and looked at it from different angles.

You might want to try something similar with the couch you have in mind and the end table. I'm thinking that you'll have enough room for both. My vote is to get a couch that's long enough to stretch out on so you can be comfortable watching TV or reading a book.

get some blue painters tape and tape out the size of the sofa on your floor. You can set some chairs in that space to give some dimension to it. See how you like it then.

That is a really long sofa. I wouldn't put it in the room you have described.

I second the suggestions of mapping out the true size on your floor and trying it for a while.
