I have given mad props in the past to the President so I can be impartial when it comes to speeches and performance. He is usually hard to beat.

But I have to go with Romney on this one. He killed it.

Jim Lehrer was the big loser. What a horrible moderator. Both Obama and Romney just ram through their laundry lists of campaign points without anything substantive, and the debate had no shape to it. Very boring ... I gave up about two-thirds of the way through because I didn't learn anything new (from either side, about either side).

I completely agree. Lehrer was a terrible moderator.

Really, Romney seemed direct and in charge. He knew his facts and talked in a very direct manner.

Obama stumbled and fumbled. He seemed furious at times. Not a good night for O.

Romney. By a long shot.

Obama's fumbling and stumbling was hard to watch. He looked like he was just there to punch in on the time clock for 90 minutes and then go home. He didn't look like he wanted to win and he didn't look like he cared.

Romney. Obama kept getting lost in his thoughts, and you could tell exactly when it happened because he'd start telling an unrelated story.

Romney!

He actually pleasantly surprised me with his performance tonight. Romney was much, much better than I expected and the president just looked and acted like his heart wasn't in it.

from HuffPo

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
President Barack Obama's deputy campaign manager, Stephanie Cutter, admitted Mitt Romney won the debate on "preparation" and "style."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Looks like she is actually able to tell the truth...who knew?

So here's two votes...one from Stephanie Cutter and one from me. I'd guess Bill Maher and Dennis Miller would also say that Romney won the debate tonight.

Im watching it now on DVR and I think Romney is doing a better job getting his view and points out than Obama is. But I cant stand Obama so Im probably not the best person to ask about it!

I did want to say that if you pay attention, Obama looks angry anytime someone questions him or pushes him on something he has said. He doesn't like to be confronted and he doesn't mask it well at all.

Clearly Romney. "I've been in business for 25 years, and I don't know what you're talking about." cracked my butt up! Actually he made me laugh a couple times. Very personable, extremely knowledgeable, he was on fire.

I think Romney did well - he looked comfortable and spoke well (as others have said, oftentimes over the moderator) but this cracks me up:

Romney was giving all kinds of specific examples of ways he'd govern differently- starting with 5 clear and strong ideas for increasing jobs and improving the economy. He had more than just the same old talking points. He came with specific numbers, line by line critiques of current and proposed legislation with what should stay and what should go, and had to repeat those points numerous times when Obama tried to make up his own data.

You must have been watching a different debate than I did. And, I was playing debate bingo, so I know I was listening!

Watch this video. Very interesting observations from Jennifer Granholm on why Obama will lose first debate.

Romney! No question about it. I only listened on the radio since I don't have tv or Internet in my new apartment, and even without seeing the body language, it was obvious. Romney was upbeat, clear, concise and on point. Obama sounded tired, and lots of 'ums' and rambling.

Romney knew his facts, but did play loose with a few things

Obama kept repeating some of the same thoughts and Romney called him on it.

I liked Romney's sense of humor "I raised 5 sons . . . and saying something over again doesn't make it true", also the quip, "You are entitled to ___ and ___ but you are not entitled to your own facts!" LOL

They were both boring. Romney seemed extremely condescending to me but he came out as the winner in this debate. After all those hours practicing, he should have come out on top. Sometimes, however, slow and steady wins the race. Romney can win all the debates he wants. He still isn't getting my vote.

I didn't watch much of the debate but this explains why I have barely heard a word about it on Good Morning America this morning. Jim Lehrer was horrible (at least in the beginning part that I watched)

ETA...I completely missed an entire 4 minute segment on the debate on GMA. So, I'm wrong...it was absolutely discussed. And 2 of the 3 contributors interviewed even seemed to watch the same debate that most of you did. The third correspondent seems to have a completely different opinion.

Romney beat Obama on style last night but substance was lacking. In reading fact checks from various sources this morning, it's clear that he also beat Obama on lies told and exaggerations.

Romney won it, but he didn't "kill." Obama botched it, but he didn't blow it.

If you support Romney and agree with his positions, I'm sure you felt good about last night. Romney did better than expected, and certainly won in terms of making points, style-wise. Obama's strategy seemed to be to try to be presidential and rise above the fray, and it didn't work for him. It left him open for Romney to get in attacks that Obama didn't seem to want to counter. But if you don't support Romney's positions, or need some convincing, I don't think Romney did much to strengthen his case.

As an Obama supporter, it helps me to remember this morning that Kerry smoked Bush in their debates.

I thought Romney hit a home run last night. President Obama seemed off. He seemed to be on the defensive, deflected a lot, cast blame on people and situations. He didn't take responsibility for a lot of the things that are going wrong. It felt like the same ol mumbo jumbo from him. Romney was articulate and was able to talk a lot about what was wrong and what was needed to fix the problems.

I hope you dvr'd it so you can watch again.

What were you watching! He kept saying the SAME things over and over but gave NO SPECIFICS. He changed his stance on several things and then he whined about "I want to go first, he went first, it's my turn".

Seriously they both sucked!
