...NOT really like that movie?

I tried to like it...but I just don't get it. People loved it. Not me. I don't do "fiction" very well I guess.

Just curious if I am the only one.
(finally saw it last night)

Did you read the book first?

Personally, I don't really see the point of watching the movie if you didn't read the book first

Did you read the book? I think there is too much to "get" from just watching the movie. The book is well written and a fast read. Well worth the time.

The movie was ok. I've seen it a few times, but I still prefer the book.

IMO you really need to read the book before watching this movie. The book develops the characters much better and sets up the mood and the nature of the situation. The movie is a mere illustration, it doesn't stand well on its own.

Loved the books and was excited to rent the movie. Watched it and thought it was just kinda "blah". I don't think the movie was as great as everyone made it out to be. My husband (who hadn't read the books) made the same comment, so I don't think it made much difference.

NOPE. Not a reader....didn't know it was that important. Maybe that would have helped.

If I hadn't read the book, I would *not* have enjoyed the movie at all...their were too many details that were pertinent that I don't think the movie did a good job of explaining.

My husband didn't read the book and only sort of liked the movie...if I hadn't been there filling him in, he probably would have hated it.

The movie didn't even begin to do justice to the book.

The movie didn't even begin to do justice to the book.
That.

It was one of my least favorite movie adaptations ever.

I saw the movie without reading the book. I loved it and saw it twice. Then I read the book later.

Definitely believe reading the book first makes no difference.

I dislike reading the book first. And see if people hadnt then they could have enjoyed the movie as a movie and then read the book and enjoyed that too.

I'm the opposite. If I know a movie is coming out for a book I haven't read then I go read the book before seeing the movie. I hate picturing the movie actors the entire time I'm reading.

Ditto. I just started "Life of Pi" because I know I'll see the movie.

I'm the same way. The entire time I was reading Twilight I was picturing RPattz and since I think he is ugly it ruined the books for me a little.

I read the books and saw the movie. They were alright. I wasn't into the whole HG thing like everyone else it seems. Once was enough for that movie for me (books too!)

We saw the movie without reading the books. LOVED
the movie. Loved it! Then we read all three books.
Can't wait for the next movie to come out. Recently
watched the movie with DS who has not read the books.
He loved it too.

I loved the books. Hated the movie. It was nice to get a "visual", but I hated how they skimmed over things in the movie and it felt so rushed to me.

I also felt the actors who played Katniss and Peeta had no chemistry.

I enjoyed both. I saw the movie first and did like it. DD started reading the HG books for school so I thought i would join her. I read the first 2 in a week and I am on #3 now. It does not matter to me if I read the book first or the movie. I am enjoying the books more than the movie in this case.

I didn't care a whole lot for the movie, either.

I read the books and loved all of them so I think it would have been hard to make a movie that Id have liked as much as I did the books. Even with that, though, I think the movie was boring and kinda drug on in a lot of parts.

I loved the book...didn't like the movie as well. Not because of the story or anything, but the way it was shot. I ended up with a migraine watching it at the theater, and even watching it on our television at home gives me a headache.

I just couldn't deal with the jumpy cinematography, and I probably won't go see the next one because of it.

I did not like the books. Couldn't get through the 2nd one. I thought the writing was poor and the story line was unbelieveable and depressing. The movie was more of the same. I think folks were hungering for more Harry Potter, and Hunger Games was all that was out there.

I didn't care for the book. Didn't even bother to read the second/third books. Didn't like the movie either.

I loved the first two books and liked the movie. But I do think I would have had a "meh" feeling about it if I hadn't read the books.

I think DH nailed why the movie wasn't as good. The first book is mainly in Kat's head and all of her emotions and that just doesn't translate well to the screen without a lot of cheesy voice overs.

FTR I had read the book before seeing the movie, he read it after. The movie was interesting enough to him to motivate him to read the book.
