Have any of rental a vacation home in Galveston? Or maybe know of a good website for finding a vacation home? I was looking at homeaway.com but was wondering if there was one that peas have had good luck with.
I don't need anything fancy, just something for a 3 day weekend in December.
I'm not even sure of what area of Galveston I should be looking at. We will want to spend time at the sea wall and at Moody Gardens, but I don't think we have to stay right in that area.

Just marking my spot to watch... We did it last year from VRBO.com and had a nice condo, but pretty far away from town.
Love to hear what everyone else says.

i found a couple of great ones on bolivar last summer.
"goin coastal" was one maybe
not so close to seawall or moody though.
we have rented a lot of houses there. most are fine or better. you just need to find one just the right size for your number of people so you don't have to overpay.

In the past we've stayed in a couple of different houses in Pirate's Cove on the west beach. Had great experiences. We used Sand and Sea rentals web page .

We have used Sea and Sand for the last two years and have had great experiences. We have stayed in Pirates Cove both times.

Another vote for Sand 'N Sea. We have a house in Pirates Cove, and that's pretty much who everyone uses there.
You might want to look into seeing if they have a condo available at the Diamond Beach Resort. It's not so far on the West End either - it's at the very end of the seawall. It has a private beach, a great pool and a lazy river.

Thanks ladies! Glad to hear so many of you have enjoyed the Pirate's Cove area! I have narrowed it down to 2 houses - both in Pirate's Cove. Now to decide if I want to take the cheaper one (it's a great deal on a nice house) or the really, really pretty one (seriously, it's exactly my decorating style and just looks so nice & has a better view).
I was also really interested in the Point West area, but since it will be mid-Dec I don't think we would get much use out of the pools and lazy river. But, if we were going in the summer that would be my firse choice.

If you do decide to look at Pointe West at some point, double check the availability of the pools - the developer went bankrupt last summer and last I heard all the clubs/pools were shut down. That may have changed but definitely double check. We have some friends with property there and they are pretty unhappy about it.
