Message me and I'm willing to try.

I don't know that I'm an expert, but I'm the one at work that everyone calls to help when their MSOffice programs aren't doing what they should. The problem is usually something that Microsoft "fixed" in the new version that worked just fine in the previous version. Cheeses me off!

You wouldn't have words randomly italicized by chance would you? That is a maddening thing that I have happen that I have YET to find a solution for.

I don't know that I've come across that in Word, but I certainly have in Outlook. It happens (at least to me) when I use underscores, like when I'm writing a filename or variable name. As soon as I put that second underscore in a 'word' it italicizes it. It's indeed maddening.

No... and Cheryl tried to help. At least her advice was what I'd BEEN trying, so I don't feel QUITE so dumb.

I am having trouble saving the electronic version of my thesis that needs to be sent to my University. Throughout the process, I saved all of my pages/pieces that were numbered differently as separate files.

This morning, I taught myself how to merge it all into one document. (YAY!) However, when I saved the document and re-opened it, it shows in the "Final Mark-up" version. The mark-ups are not there, but the document appears with the large "Review Panel" to the right of the document. If I mistakenly print without changing from "Final Markup" to "Final" in the "VIEW" menu (as I have on occasion throughout my work), it prints with the text minimized and with the large panel/margin.

I do not think that there will be a reason for them to print from my electronic file, but I would LOVE to be able to send *perfect* copies (without the issues mentioned above). I have spent additional HOURS trying to figure out how to save a document without that panel, but I cannot find a reference online.

Do you happen to know how to remove the "Review Panel" PERMANENTLY from a document? Thanks for ANY help!

I think if you Accept all the changes, the mark up will go away. Then save with a new name.

The marks are gone. Permanently. The margin remains. I've done "Save As" with a bunch of new names and nothing (so far) has removed the extra margin at the right.

It's maddening.

In the review pane, is there an X at the top corner? If so, click it to hide, then save your document. Close it, reopen it, and see if it stays gone.

I wouldn't worry about the menu on the side. Just close it out. It's probably just showing on your computer because you have the function open. Someone opening the doc alone probably won't see that.

If it's still a problem even with that, you may have to turn off "track changes".

No luck, yivit. Closing (X'ing) the Review Pane doesn't make the margin go away at all.

*SIGH*

Still waiting to hear from the Grad Studies editing guru. My program coordinator forwarded my message on to her.

Thanks, everyone, anyway!

eta: turning off the "track changes" after the fact doesn't help. If it's been saved, the mark-ups are saved. I've been able to hide them and have them not show up in the final "save", but the margin remains....

momofkandn - it's not a menu; it's actual blank white space ON the pages. ALL 87 of them.

ARG.

Michelle -

Are you absolutely certain that there are no comments or changes showing on any of the 87 pages? If there's something small on even 1 of them, you'll get that margin on all pages. Once you're absolutely certain you have no changes or comments that need to be approved or rejected (and you probably want to reject the comments for the copy you are submitting):

On the "review" menu, click on "Show Markup". On that drop-down menu, hover over "Balloons" and from that drop down menu, click "Show All Revisions Inline". That made the big margin on my mess-around document go away.

Let me know if it works on yours. (And if it does, yay! me! - this I figured out by just messing around with it and not thru my Trixie Belden girl detective google skills).

And seriously, Microsoft? Stop "fixing" stuff that works just fine the way it is!

It has to be a Word doc, Mariah.

I'm tempted to send a "Read Only" version anyway. I don't WANT someone messing with my file.
