It's always been a tradition in our family to at least have a pumpkin pie, even if there are other options. This year we didn't have it. it didn't seem right, somehow.

We never have pumpkin pie. Our Thanksgiving dinner is just my mom, my sister and brother in law, and me. I'm the only one who would eat the pumpkin, and even then, it's not my favorite. We only have one dessert, and it's a dutch apple pie, which everyone likes.

We opted for pumpkin roll, apple pie, cheesecake and chocolate mousse. My MIL is the only one who makes pies and *whispering* they're not very good. She made her apple pie "sugar" free. As in no type of sweetener anywhere. Feel free to eat healthy, woman, but don't screw with Thanksgiving dessert.

|Posted: 11/23/2012 9:19:59 PM|Well, kinda. My dad has been on a pumpkin pie baking kick lately and they have all been delicious. But the one he made for Thanksgiving he somehow managed to confuse the amounts of salt and sugar he needed and got them backwards. We all bit in and were like "mmmm...where's the trash can?"

|Posted: 11/23/2012 10:50:12 PM|None here this year. I have always made pumpkin pie along with either cherry, custard, apple, and/or pecan - not all of those at once but usually at least one other depending on the amount of people expected. BUT for the last few years I always end up throwing half the pumpkin out so I didn't make it this year. Made a cherry one (which didn't turn out too great) and apple crisp which was gone early. NO one asked whe the pumpkin pie was so I might not ever make another one. might buy a cherry one instead too.

we didn't have any dessert at all. We are saving our calories for the Christmas cookies that I will make. I am only planning on making one recipe for those, as well. We are cutting down on sweets and losing weight, so we haven't been eating dessert for at least 4 months now. didn't make a difference to us at all.
|Posted: 11/24/2012 2:51:02 AM|No pumpkin pie, no turkey, no stuffing! German MIL made dinner this year. I'm still crying inside a little, and I will probably make all of that within the next week because this was just all sorts of wrong.

No pumpkin pie because my Navy son is the only one who really loves it and he wasn't home for Thanksgiving.
I did make a pumpkin roll (the really thin sheet cake spread with a cream cheese based filling with pecans and all rolled up) that some call a "yule log" dessert. It was great! And it's all long gone. It was so good, I'm seriously considering making another this weekend just because we didn't get enough!
