We've only done the elf 1 year. No one touched the elf in our house. We just left him and cleaned the mess up after he moved the next night. |

In our house no one touches him.
Most of his mischief happens out of the kids' reach so there's no temptation to break the rule and no one can accidentally touch him.
Ours only does one or 2 mischievous things. He's supposed to make the kids behave so I don't get why he would make big messes or be naughty.

Ditto! I don't have a big enough kitchen to leave his messes out. The other day he was sitting on the toaster, sipping syrup from a straw. I need to put the syrup away and use the toaster. I cradle him gently and put him on his high shelf perch.
And yes, he's supposed to make the kids behave, but waking up to see what he's done, is their favourite part. |

We don't have the "official" Elf on the Shelf and because we have never done the "naughty or nice" thing with DD, we made our own story regarding why our elf is there. She is there as part of her elf training, so she can be as mischievous as she wishes, without conflict of interest.
We allow our elf to be touched by anyone in the house. Our note from Santa says that we have to be gentle with her when she is in her elf state though, so we don't touch her too much.

We are not allowed to touch. Pops would lose his magic, and my son would be crushed. We need to all share ideas on here though. At times I am just fresh out of what to have him do! I think I may have pinned an Elf pin at Pinterest! I may have to research this |

There are lots of great ideas on pinterest, but it would be fun to post here about what our elves have been up to! |

This is our first year doing Elf on the Shelf but I've thought this ^^ same thing. I think Mom will be allowed to touch him since if there is a mess, I won't be able to stand to leave it there. But maybe our elf will stick to just a few naughty things too.
I like it, but some of my friends think it's creepy..

This is our 4th year. We had the no touch rule the first 2, but needed to change that because we had to get more creative about hiding spots, etc. So there was a note one day saying DS could touch him. The first time he picked him up DS said "he's so light!". |

We take our Elf with us everywhere! Otherwise, how would he know what to report to Santa? So we clean up his messes and he goes along with us on our daily activities. We take pics with him...kind of like a Flat Stanley!! lol He has to be on his special snowflake mat at night so that he can ride the snowflake back to the North Pole to report to Santa!
