Which I am sure aren't free after shipping and handling, but whatever.

Or are there other good sources for inexpensive business-type cards?

Apparently the "thing" in our new neighborhood is to hand out business cards - or really more like calling cards - with your name, address, phone, and email to other neighbors when you meet them. It's a neighborhood built on being social and has it's own private fitness clubs, town hall, lots of social gatherings, etc. and there will eventually be about 2,000 homes (although I sincerely doubt I'll ever really meet a fraction of those people). But I guess I need to get with the program and have something to hand back but I don't need anything fancy or expensive, yet I want something a little nicer than I can just print out on my computer.

Peer pressure. It's not just for teens.

The VistaPrint ones are fine, especially if you upgrade to glossy.

But if you just need a few, here's a website that has them for free if you print with their site URL on them; $3 per design if you want the ability to remove the URL. You can print them instantly on cardstock, Avery templates or whatever. You have to have Microsoft Word because they're DOC files.

(disclosure: this is my boss' site -- he has lots of great free and low-cost printables at FreePrintable.net)

Mine are through VistaPrint, and I really like them... but I didn't go for the free option. I waited for a sale on them (which happens all the time), then got a buttload for a very small amount...

In my business, it's not a good thing to have someone else's URL or logo on your card, which is what printing companies do to make up for the fact that they're free. It immediately broadcasts that you're too cheap to get nice business cards. Which I kind of am, but I don't want everyone to know it...

But handing out cards in the neighborhood is very different than trying to impress people in a corporate setting -- I think either way you go (free with URL, or on sale without), you won't go broke and be pleased.

I behold you riding with my love throughout the town,
And I bite my thumb at you.
Methinks the ducats in my purse are sorely lacking,
And I bite my thumb at you
And at her, too.
Were I but richer, I would be her suitor
Is this not a patent fact?
Though it pains me to the quick, I will salute her still
The aforementioned way: I bite my thumb.

It's all just nonsense anyway!

The first 250, basic, non-glossy cards are free, with $4.95 S&H.

They perfectly acceptable for most needs, and they have lots of designs to chose from. I got some for my son to pass out for his little lawn mowing business. One good thin about VistaPrint is, once you're a customer, they offer you all kind of other deals....like a free address stamp, or a printed T-shirt for $2.99 with free shipping...I got my son one of those too....and they're fast. Whatever you order is on your doorstep in days.

Because my current printer is a piece of junk that gives random results and it would end up costing me more in cardstock and ink than it probably would to have 100 printed inexpensively somewhere. And I would probably end up with 15 decent cards out of the whole thing. Not to mention that all of my cardstock and paper trimmers are packed and somewhere in limbo.

I don't print photos or anything anymore. It's just not worth it for the quality versus the minor amount that I do. So I have a fairly subpar printer that I can use for random, not very important things and just pay someone else to print nicer things for me.

thanks for the input. I'll give them a go - either the glossy ones or maybe I'll wait for a sale. I signed up on their mailing list so I'm sure to get some. I need some address labels and maybe a new address stamp anyway so it might be a win-win.

I don't care one way or the other if they have a URL on the back (some of the ones we have gotten do and others don't) but it's good to know that there's a choice if I'm willing to pay for it.

I have them. Decent quality. No URL or anything anywhere except what you put on there.

There's a $5 for 250 deal this weekend. Shipping for that many was $5.99 for me.

You can also upload your own design if you don't like any of the zillion predesigned cards. There are several of the calling card type, too, and you can put your own photo on there if you want to.

I have gotten the "free" Vista Print business cards in the past and they were good quality. I did the upgrade for a place I worked for 2 years ago and they were good quality. Someone was right, once you order, you get all kinds of deals.

I don't use them any more because I print my own. I have a decent printer and most important of all, is that I have a commercial die that cuts all 10 cards out VERY nicely on my AccuCut GrandeMark!

Sure Angie - rub it in. I can't justify that kind of stuff anymore since I don't scrapbook.

Tracey - thanks for the heads up on the deal - I'll check that out.

Carla, my friends love it too, if they need a few cards, I can run up a few or they print them and I cut them! Looks like you are now in Texas, closer to me but not close enough to run over and have me cut some for you!

By the way, Anabel the Lab is still doing great. Walgreens dropped the ball, I tried to order the stuff online, they would NOT let me order it online because I can only get MAIL at the PO Box and it kept kicking me out. Called and they said to get the local store to order. Well, they did but it NEVER came in and STILL is not on the shelf either.

Fortunately, we'd been checking around and our backup was available at the feed store where we get their Nutro dog food. It is called Pet Natural of Vermont Hip and Joint. The Dachshund (Benji) gets the small dog formula and Anabel gets the XL Dog formula. It has the same mg of Chondroitin and more mg of Glucosamine. She was on the Walgreens brand you told me about for 2 bottles worth and she has been on this for about 5 weeks.

Still doing good, we were afraid to change since she was so bad off when we got her on the Walgreens formula. This costs a little more BUT the feed store is less than a mile away and we give THIS to her as a "treat", she ALWAYS reminds us to give her the treat after she eats. She is going to be 11 on the 13th and just bounces around like a much younger dog.

Angie - I was just talking about her the other day and wondered how she was doing. I'll have to check Walgreens here but I didn't have any problem getting it in Illinois.

If for some reason it turns out that you want to switch her back, I would be more than happy to send it to you if I can find it here. I don't now what I'll do if I can't get it - maybe check back with Puritans Pride to see if they carry the one I originally used. I need to put that on my list of things to check the next time I go out because I don't want to take a chance of running out.

I use VP and am happy with mine (business). Sometimes they offer the premium ones for free so I waited until then and ordered some. I also got a lawn sign, banner, postcards, cap, sticky note pad and a stamp, and only had to pay the postage which was a fraction of what the cost would have been to have all that done at a printery. I've had lots of comments on my cards - the premium designs are nicer than the standard feeebies.

I was lucky and got a second lot for free - the whole order. The original order was 2 boxes but only 1 arrived. I phoned them to let them know, and told them what I had received. They were great - redid my entire order for free and mailed it out again - no postage on the 2nd lot. About 2 weeks later the missimg 1st box showed up, so I let them know and said I would pay for the second order. They told me to keep it with their compliments! I was very happy about that, so I now have 2 lots of everything.

Of course, they only give you one of anything for free, but I found with the cards, you only have to change 1 thing on it and it is classed as a differnt item. I added 1 word to mine and got another lot for free. Or you could do something like leave of the www from your web addy and it changes the design.

The next lot I will pay for because I want to have my own title\logo on it, and with the freebies, you have to use their fonts (limited range). But they often send me a $?? dollars off the order, so I'll wait until then to order the new ones.

I don't recommend their pens though, the design comes off easliy.

Yah, I used them for just that type of card, too, and they were just fine.

Mine read "D's wife"
"A's mom"
"Mocha's owner"

Since most people knew me in one of those capacities (from D's work, A's school and Mocha's therapy work, etc) and that covered things! (now I have my OWN identity! LOL!)

It looks like VistaPrint is having 25% off for new customers, so that would be a good time to upgrade!

Vistaprint recently upgraded their basic card stock so the quality is better and thicker, but the free cards still have their branding on the back.

Not a fan of that.

You can get 500 premium cards for $10 including shipping which is a good deal.

There are other sites too that offer free cards, some without the watermark or branding on back. Unless you're okay with just 10 cards though, they all carry a shipping charge.

There's a good summary of free business card deals at:

Thanks for all the input. I ended up getting some of their premium cards and then upgraded to the glossy finish. It wasn't as much about "free" as it was about quality and being somewhat inexpensive.

I had gotten some from them before, but I paid a little bit - I got them on sale. I didn't like the designs for the free ones, so I got the same quality, just an image I liked more, and they were fine.
