My MIL makes jewelry! She has a successful etsy shop (Out West Jewelry Designs) and loves doing it!

She's mentioned a dozen times how she wants to learn to make glass beads, so we're getting her bead-making classes! It's perfect!!

I'm quite proud of what I am giving my mom this year. She had an antique clock that was broken (well, fixable if you were willing to spend waaaaaaaaay more than the clock is worth) and has talked for some time about putting modern workings in it so it will be usable as a clock. I conspired with my dad to steal it and take it to a clock place. They are able to put the modern workings in it, including a chime that will sound exactly like the original, but will have the modern ability to set to "silent" at night. He also has it cleaned and prettied up.

It is the gift I am most excited about this year!!!

My MIL is getting a hand mixer. Not very exciting in comparison lol, plus some joint gifts with FIL.

She lost all of her Christmas ornaments to Hurricane Sandy, so we're replacing her ornaments and we're giving them what we give them every year - tickets to a concert series they enjoy in NYC.

A new set of tea cups and saucers, some of her favorite perfume and I am painting four small canvases with holiday faces. Santa, snowman, an elf and Rudolph. I'm going to attach them with a thick ribbon so she can hang them all on one of the walls that are near her front door.

My mom wants a weather radio and a new toaster and a cheap watch she can wear when she is out in the garden. Those are all things she can easily get herself, but she wants to make a list- so those are on her list, and we will get them. However, we also do/make some things: this year, her bathroom door needs to be replaced. My youngest son is in the carpenter's apprentice training, so he will be giving/installing her new door- makes sense for him to do it, instead of her hiring out to have some one come in to do it. Also, she wants to be more capable on her computer- she has a new laptop. She also switched to higher speed internet service, so I am going to borrow her computer for a few days, take some screen shots of various things, and write directions for her specific needs and then she will have her own manual to help her do what she wants to get done, when I am not there to talk her through each step.

Both of my Mother in laws are getting the same thing this year. Yes i have two MIL lol. My first husband passed away at 22 and his parents are still my in laws and who we spend the most time with them.

There is a gentleman in town who makes Lighthouses for outside of the house. We are having one made for each of them for their gardens. I called and ordered one today and told him I wanted it Black and Gold, he got a good chuckle out of that, said it must be a Steeler Fan.

I like being able to find something unique like that.

Well my mother quit doing Christmas years ago. She hated buying gifts for others so she doesn't want any either. I just try to do stuff for her during the year.

My MIL I wish I knew. She is so crippled from her arthritis and is chair bound and my FIL doesn't like to take her out to eat because she takes an extremely long time eating so I don't know what to get. They are simple people and have done gift cards to Walmart and Lowes so many times. I really would like to do something special but the last time we did that was when we bought a petite health chair that was more fitted to her frame and a log splitter. I will be watching this thread for some inspiration.

We are on a super tight budget this year. We are giving all 3 sets of parents "dinner and a movie." I'm buying restaurant gifts cards at restaurant dot com (five $25 gift cards for $25) and I picked up a 2 pack of movie tickets when they were on sale at Costco.

I have a MIL, my FIL'd wife (long story but I don't dare call her my MIL) and my mom. All three are getting family photos and calendars with photos of the kids, which is an annual tradition.

My MIL is also getting stamped coasters that match her decor and a gift card to her favorite restaurant.

FIL's wife is getting a custom iPad cover I designed with pictures of her greyhounds. They are her whole life and that iPad is always in her hands .

My mom is getting coasters and a gift card to the place where she gets facials.

my mom was just diagnosed with diabetes 2, and is refusing to make changes to her lifestyle, (she is 80) so I found her a bag of sugar free hard candies and a sugar free cookie club.

sugar free cookie club

for MIL - so far a subscription to Reader's Digest. She says she loves to read but cannot keep up with books any longer, so I'm hoping this satisfies her reading urge. what else, not sure.

MIL and Mom are getting photo books for Christmas. My mom will also get a gift card for groceries since she always needs financial help.

My MIL I wish I knew. She is so crippled from her arthritis and is chair bound and my FIL doesn't like to take her out to eat because she takes an extremely long time eating so I don't know what to get. They are simple people and have done gift cards to Walmart and Lowes so many times. I will be watching this thread for some inspiration.

I would recommend considering some of these types of items. I have RA in my hands and it really helps to have a good jar opener, lever style door knobs rather than round ones, dressing aids, etc.

MIL is 89 yrs old so at this point every day is a gift for her. I think I'll pick out a new nightgown for her. She rarely gets dressed anymore and could use several new nightgowns.

My Mom has a Pandora bracelet. So I thought I'd get her that Mother/Daughter heart one that separates into two charms, keep the daughter one for me and give her the Mother one. She'll also get some Bare Minerals eye shadows.

For my mom, I'm making a scrapbook. The topic is a surprise in case she reads this

For my MIL, I haven't shopped yet. They're going camping soon so maybe something for the trip.

There are some really great ideas here!

So far, I am considering putting together a basket of gluten free items. Maybe some GF brownie mix, pancake mix, GF oats, pasta etc. just different things that she can try out for fun.

She and my FIL recently switched over to Apple products (iMac, iPad and iPhone) so I may stop in the Apple store and see if there is anything fun that I could get her to go with her new electronics!

She always does a really good job of picking out unique items for everyone and I would love to return the favor!

My mom and MIL are turning out to be easy to shop for this year.

I got both of them some kitchen gadgets.
We had family pictures taken, so I'll frame one for each.

My MIL just bought a 2nd home so I'm buying her a pizzelle maker so she has one for each home. It's her favorite cookie to make.

I bought something for my sister and showed my mom and she loved it, wants to use it when she travels-little bags from In a Pikle.
I saw those on pinterest and they are really cute. Now I want one for me.

For a change my Mom's gift is easy this year. A couple weeks ago she had to call an ambulance and I got to her house first. She was extremely frustrated because she had worn out her silky robes and nightgowns. She was more worried about looking like an old lady than possibly having a heart attack. She is 79.
Thank goodness it wasn't a heart attack but I'm surprised she didn't work herself into one.

MIL and FIL are snowbirds. They have everything they want and most of what they need. Several years ago, DH and I started buying them tickets to the touring production of a Broadway show in their town in FL. This year, they are getting tickets to Les Mis, along with the soundtrack. She emailed me the other day to say it is her favorite show and she hopes it is the one we can get seats for.

My parents are planning a trip to Disney next year with extended family. I got each of them a Disney gift card. Dad got a turkey leg t-shirt (his favorite thing at WDW--YUCK) and an ornament. Mom is also getting a Jim Shore figurine that she wanted and an ornament.

for MIL - I really liked the adopt nature and cow thing - so we are getting that for her.

My mom is very short on extra funds so we are doing many practical gifts that will help on their limited income, plus some new shoes that she really wants and some gift cards to places she likes to shop, but has no money for.

I'm getting my Mom a Keurig. My MIL requested updated 5x7's of my kids so I'm getting her that (as well as my Mom) and something else but I have no idea what yet. MIL is such a wonderful grandma, mother, and mother-in-law that I try to show her how much we appreciate her at Christmas. She recently had emergency surgery for a ruptured colon and has to have a colostomy for six months so she's been down in the dumps. I'm hoping I can think of something that will brighten her spirits (even though I'm sure the pics will do that too).

My mom gets her Netflix renewed for the year ( I manage her account as she doesn't use the computer) her cellphone, which is on our account, the annual photo calendar, a sweater I got a great deal on. Plus a pair of shoes. She has a very narrow foot, more so now because she lost weight she really couldn't afford to lose, but I found shoes for her online, she bought one pair while she was here and was thrilled with the way they fit so I ordered a second pair, different style and hope they fit as well as the first ones

None of our parents want "stuff". So I make a photo calendar for them that they request and appreciate every year. I also gather photos from all their children of the grandchildren and format them for their digital frames.

Then the kids do extra chores to earn money and we purchase chickens or goats through World Vision.

We are getting my parents a photo book with pictures for a senior photo shoot I did with my dd and my niece. They've been friends as well as cousins since they were babies and it was so fun.

For my mom I'm getting her a copy of Grandpa Green. I'm so excited about this one. My mom's maiden name is Green and her father's story is so similar to the one of the Grandpa in the book that the book makes me cry (and every one of my siblings.) Love it. They are also tight on money this year, so we might pick up a Walmart gift card.

My ILs are included in the gift exchange draw, so MIL will get a Sensty Bar and my FIL will get a pound of fudge.
