There are 11 people. They don't do an office exchange or anything like that. DH is the Director and he likes to give everyone a small gift for Christmas.

This year I decided to etch glass bowls and casserole dishes with last names. The casserole dishes will contain an oven mitt and a silicone spatula (maybe a brownie mix too?). The bowls will contain packages of microwave popcorn and popcorn flavor shakers. The women get the casserole dishes and the guys get the popcorn bowls.

I have too much trouble figuring out what to get these people anyway, much less try to figure out one thing for everyone ...so I can't worry about 'why do the women get casserole dishes??' I don't think that will be a big deal.

Does it sound like a good enough gift, do you think? Would you add brownie mix to the casserole dishes?

I'd rather have the popcorn bowl, to be honest. The casserole is a little too housewifey for me, though I'm sure others would love it. I'm just more of a guy in that sense.

I used to do this for my husband's employees and found it was better to stick with a single gift.

My husband left that job, and not having to buy those gifts is a such a good thing.

I think they are really nice gift ideas.

If the popcorn and brownie mix is in the budget I would add that as well.

Like other peas, I would do one gift for everyone. And let's be real, anyone who uses a casserole dish probably already has one, so I also vote popcorn bowl.

I'm going to be the weird one and wouldn't like the etching. My H and I are now separated and I have all these cool kitchen things with our last name on it which will eventually not be my last name. Are all the women married as well? If they are single they may get married some day and may end up with something that isn't their name any more. I know I'm weird about things like that right now.

I'd prefer the popcorn bowl as well over a casserole dish.

That's awesome indeed. Maybe do half casserole dishes and half popcorn bowls and encourage them to swap if desired? Oh wait, it they are etched, that wouldn't work, would it? Sorry.
oh, and how do you etch them?

I think it's so cool that you are being so thoughtful with your gifts. I would suggest to go popcorn bowls all around, though. It will be easier on you and I tend to agree with the idea that most people who would use a casserole would already have one.

Thanks for the answers.

I have been picking up casserole dishes and bowls as I find them at Ross. I've been at it since summer. The bowls were harder to find, by a long shot. I know it would have been easier to do all one thing though.

Mimima- there's a chemical etching creme called Armour Etch. I cut a stencil from Con-Tac paper with my Cricut- put it on the dish or bowl and then paint the etching creme on. You wait 5 minutes, wash it off. It's super easy- but it looks nice. I've done a few. Everyone loved them.

I know personalized anything is a risk...someone might get married/divorced/whatever. But I guess they can give it away or leave it behind if it's that big a deal. I'm just trying to think of something nice to give them now. It's just hard to figure out something nice that doesn't cost a fortune x 11 people, kwim?

What about bowls for the unmarried and the dishes for the married? Is that possible?

Is that possible?

I just don't think guys would be thrilled to get a casserole dish, single or married. The women are more likely to use the 13 x 9 dish. Even if you don't like to cook, a casserole dish is useful.

What you're all saying about bowls vs. dishes is right, of course. But I started with the guys/ girls angle early on and that's how I bought the dishes. So- that's what I'm working with now.

I think it sounds nice.

I'm an adult who has had my own cookware for over 20 years and frankly I would be *delighted* with a new casserole with our name on it.

Now I want one!

What you have planned is great! Just to weigh in, though, I would err on the side of "I don't know your circumstances".

Popcorn bowls for all with the employees *first* name initial.

After all, the gift and subsequent party is for the employee, right?

You have fulfilled your obligation and all the complicatons about who is going to marry or not or divorce is a non issue.

I think those sound like wonderful gifts.

I DO however like ellymae's idea of doing an initial - at least on the casserole dishes. Maybe do them in different fonts if you have more than one "s" for example.

A casserole dish sounds like work. A popcorn bowl sounds like fun. I'd go with all popcorn bowls but I see you already have casserole dishes too! The women are more likely to have a name change in their future obviously, so I'd probably go with an intial too. Maybe a little flower or something next to it?

I have a casserole dish with my first name on it that I love. My Grandma had them made for all the women one year. Last name wouldn't help at family functions...and we mostly have uncommon first names. I love my dish!

I don't know the dad well, but he is single and I invited him to dinner and have been wondering what to give him as a gift. This is the perfect solution!
