I can't decide on which one would be better. If you have either one, what are the advantages/disadvantages of the one you have? Are books easy to download and do they cost the same as regular books? I always get my books from the library for free, so I know this would be a big difference. I'm really stuck on which one to ask for. And then there is the ipad. My DH likes that idea, but I'm not sure I would ever need that. If you have that, how do you like it? | |

I also replied to the other thread. I wanted to add that both are easy to use with most library system ebooks. About 80% of my reading is books that I download from the library. Like others, my choice for going with the Nook had as much to do with having a sizeable Nook library already built up from use first on my Blackberry Storm, then my iPhone, then my Nook Simple Touch.
The Kindle has better/more app options at this point. Both (I think) have locked access from downloading from Google Play (the android market for apps). You have to download from their specific stores. Kindle rolled out the first KF with a pretty large amount of apps. The Nook HD/HD+ still has a way to go in this area.
If you can afford and/or want to spend the extra couple hundred $$ (or more) for an iPad, then that may be the way to go. Price was a factor for me though. I could achieve 90% of my goals with my Nook table for a considerable amount less than an iPad. |

Thanks so much for that link to the other posts about it. I was on vacation all that week and never thought to do a search. Lots of good info there, but I'm still just as confused since they both seem to be really great. Maybe I'll head out to Best Buy like one of the posters and actually play around with each of them. Such a big decision to make when we can only afford one of them. | |

I got a Nook HD+ last week. It has more pixels in it's display than the new Kindle Fire HD. I also like that IF I were to have an issue with it, I can take it to Barnes and Noble to help me troubleshoot. I can also take my Nook into the brick and mortar store and read ANY book for an hour at a time. Plus they offer free coupons when you use your Nook in-store. |

They are pretty similar. I do want to point out that Amazon has removed the lock down on outside app use for their Fire HDs. You just check a box in the settings menu and you can download apps from anywhere including the Google store. It was the deciding factor for my sister when she got hers. |

Check which service your library uses to lend e-books. Mine uses both Axis 360 and Overdrive but the selection on Overdrive (it is probably my library not Amazon's fault) kind of stinks. A LOT of Harlequin type romance books and almost nothing Sci-Fi Fantasy (which is all that DH reads).
Also there is some deal going on with a publisher where Amazon is not allowed to lend certain books (I think the publisher is Penguin) which is kind of annoying.
That being said I have a Kindle (the basic one with ads) and I like it. It's easy to use and easy to download books. | |

The availability of books on the Overdrive app is dependent on what your particular library system has purchased. In Maryland, all the county-run libraries share the "Maryland Consortium" e-book library so I'm not just competing against other library patrons in my county but the whole state. Even with that, our library system has greatly expanded their selections. And when all else fails, you can sign up for other library systems like the one in Philadelphia for a small yearly fee ($35 I think). Check with family and friends in other states/cities. Someone I know shares their library information with me because of the large checkout limit their system allows (something like 20 books at at time, my system only allows 4!). When I can't find something on my own system, I check out the other system and about 70-80% of the time, I can find it available. Nothing brand new of course. I currently have 4 books downloaded to read and 2 real books from the library. That doesn't count about 8-10 books that I've purchased from B&N that are also waiting!
OP: as I stated on the other thread, the two are very similar in their overall abilities. Go play with them and determine what you want more out of your tablet. I will say that my Nook HD+ is surprisingly responsive with regards to downloading, 'net surfing, etc. And note that in my experience (we also own an original Kindle Fire), the battery life is not very good if you spend any time surfing the web or streaming videos. Straight reading alone will get you some longer battery life, but then you might as well get a base ereader instead. Which, by the way, are really good too!  |

Really? An SD card is a good feature to have.
I ordered the Kindle Fire, on CyberMonday, for the price. Honestly, I wasn't all that excited about it. But, felt I should probably try digital books. Also, I felt that between the 3 of us, surely someone would find something redeeming about the KF.
Yesterday, my favorite author released a new novella. It was only available in digital form. She also had another novella, so I bought that one too. That set off the excitement!

I'm a Nook Color girl. I've had mine nearly 2 years. I like the lend me feature but wish there were more lend me books.
I love borrowing from my library (which you can also do on Kindle).
For me it is important that I can take my Nook into Barnes & Noble for help. That's a huge selling point for me.
I think they are both awesome. I should admit that I do not use mine for anything other than reading. |

We have 4 Kindles in this house. We don't have a Kindle Fire, just normal Kindles with e-ink screens. Go to Best Buy where you can try out both of them. We just prefer the Kindle, but you may like the feel of the Nook. | |
