This year one of my grandma's friends gave me 8 rolls of toilet paper and a thing of probiotics where there were already some missing. I appreciate the gesture it just made me laugh. I didn't get a lot this year. Just that and a homemade loaf of bread and a Christmas pillow so the thought behind it was really sweet. Just really random.

My youngest granddaughter is 8, when they got here last night she could hardly contain her excitement for the gift that she was giving me. It was in a mother's day gift bag!! She wanted me to open it first thing, so I did! Inside was a broken candy cane, some ribbon with musical notes on it and a resin monkey holding a red heart. She was so tickled with herself. When her big sister got to our house, I asked if she wanted to see what her sister got me. When I showed it to her, she busted out laughing and said "that's from my room, it's mine"!! Little sis went shopping in big sis's room!! |

My dad took ds (12) shopping for his dad and me. He told my parents he was buying us something we liked but didn't need.
DH (a bears fan) received a Bears pennant and a Cutler bobble head. I'm a Cowboys fan and got a Don Lilly signed photo (he played before my time) and an Emmitt Smith card. He did his shopping at the local card store. Lol
I was taking pics of DH opening his and the smile on ds face was priceless. The pennant and larger photo are hanging on our bedroom walls. |

Not exactly a gift, but my 17 year old twit of a son got me a birthday car- with inlets on, thinking it was a Christmas card he did get me a gorgeous handbag from Accesorize as well- but that makes it even more bizarre to me, that he would not differentiate between a Christmas and birthday card lol! |

I love these!
I already posted in another thread, but running tights and a moisture wicking running jacket, from mil. Not lounging athletic wear, full on running stuff you wouldn't just wear to hang out in.
I don't run. I haven't run since before dh and I got married- my knees are shot (from a youth spent running!).
My sil got the same thing- she doesn't run either, and as far as I know...never has. At age 50 it isnt really something you just pick up really...She came over later today and said her outfit was too small, so she needs the receipt. I *think* she is probably perplexed bynthe gift like I am and is going to return it, but I don't know for sure since I couldn't get her alone to ask her.

My ds (9) gave dd(13) and I, The Mod Squad Movie on dvd. They had one of those shopping days at his school where people donate random stuff and then the kids go shopping for their families. I giggled when I opened it but then he said he bought it because he knows we like those police murder shows like Criminal Minds so he thought we would like this. It really is the thought that counts.

A handmade rustic wood plank bird feeder from one of my inlaws (he didn't make it though).
It might sound random from the outside, but it really wasn't. It was something handmade, and useful in the yard/garden. Also, there was a gift card to a local restaurant inside for something extra. For what it was, it was actually a very thoughtful gift because he knows I really like to support local craftspeople and businesses, and enjoy being outside in the garden.

One of those huge sausages, the kind that aren't in the refrigerated section. rofl... (and no, no x-rated meaning behind it). It's random but not. We like to buy these sausages from time to time to slice and have with cheese and crackers. The guys like it as a football snack. Anyway, I like it too and I'm always complaining that it gets eaten too fast and I hardly get any (since a few slices is enough for me but the guys can eat the entire thing in one sitting ) So, I've got my very own sausage and no one is allowed to eat it. |

My aunt insists on giving everyone in the family huge bags of random crap every year. She likes to watch everyone take each thing out of their bag one by one so that it takes three hours to open gifts. It's very repetitive because all of the kids pretty much get the same thing in theirs and the adults get different stuff from the kids but pretty much the same too. This year my bag included a mexican poncho thing that I will never wear, a penguin cookie jar, some weird soap and six or seven "cake doctor" type cookbooks, a framed bible verse and other things. I know she enjoys putting those darn bags together but I could drop the whole bag off at Goodwill and never miss it. I don't have any more room to store cookbooks! She says she hates giving gift cards and likes to pick stuff out. We all just smile to humor her and politely say "thank you".
**edited to add** I know this sounds ungrateful. The thing is, there's probably $200 worth of crap in that bag that can't be returned or exchanged. It's all stuff that just takes up space. She never asks anyone for a wish list! There were actually things I want or could have used. I mean if I was going to spend that kind of money I would make sure I wasn't just buying "stuff". |

My husband bought me a headset for the office. I'm not complaining about it, it's actually a clever gift as I have neck problems and can't hold a phone on my shoulder for very long. I used to have a reallly expensive one when we worked at the glass shop in KC. (my boss had to usurp corporate to get it though).
It's my husband's way of keeping me productive.

Benem, I'm not sure what the connection is between gifting practical items and the gifter's vacation. I share my stockpile but not in lieu of gifts. |

My 9 yr old GD walked in the house and gave me my present saying "This is for you - aren't you going to open it?" Everyone was still walking in the door, but at her insistance, I was opening my present. It was a Bobblehead Frog Soap Dispenser. It is sitting proudly on my kitchen sink, where it will be forever.
Last year she gave me a small angel figurine - which is wonderful, as I love angels - the funny part is the angel is black -- I'm white! The angel sits on my shelf - where it will also be forever.

Benem, I'm not sure what the connection is between gifting practical items and the gifter's vacation.
She's cheap. And nothing she gave me is practical. I don't wear cheap drug store make up and she knows it. She also loves to shop and buy expensive make up... but for herself.
But *shrug* this is the same sister who would not even buy a card for my mother for her wedding, let alone a gift, then asked my mom a week later to get up at 4am to drive her and hubby to the airport so they could go on their cruise and not have to pay the cost of cab fare. |

My 15 year old DS helped me move some scrap stuff from one room to another a few months ago. After everything was moved he told me that he found something to give me for Christmas. I had forgotten about it until yesterday when I opened a ribbon iron that I had never used because I couldn't find it. He thought it was just a miniature iron and regifted it to me. |

an apron. totally random but probably the most appreciated because i've been searching for YEARS for just the right 1/2 apron but have never found it. i must have said something is passing to MIL because she actually found THE kind of apron i wanted. i am particularly impressed because MIL can remember a thing we tell her and yet she remembered this. like i said, random. so step aside, Ipad Mini, that apron just took top prize for xmas gift of the year. |

I love my Grandma, but sometimes I just have to shake my head . This year my mother and I both received ginsu carving sets(we live in the same house), and I also got a diaper bag . I am not nor do I have plans in the near future to be pregnant. My mom thinks that she's projecting. you would think 9 kids, 19 grad kids and 22 great grand kids (with 2 more on the way next year) would be enough. She's looking for lucky 25 huh:
That being said, I am extremely close with my Granny. I just thought that was hilarious gift.
