|Posted: 12/25/2012 7:54:04 PM|I got a Sodastream for Christmas. It is the base model. I'm assuming I'll want extra bottles and cartridges. What do you suggest?

We use the small bottles (20 oz)more than the big ones. We also have an extra Co2 canister. I keep bottles of water in the fridge so they are cold when I want soda. I believe you are supposed to carbonate it more when its cold though.

Extra bottles, I just got the ones with the bright colored lids as an add one Christmas present for DH.
The canisters can be recycled, refilled at various distributors such as BBB. Our initial canister was a large one and it lasted a long time. I believe that Staples is going to carry the large canisters and you can recycle there. The recycling is considerably less expensive than buying a new canister each time.
Try different flavors until you find the ones you like. I've heard that the syrups from William and Sonoma are very good. DH is happy with the ones from BBB so we haven't tried them. ALL the syrups from soda stream have an artificial sweetener in them.
Enjoy! It's been one of DH's favorite gifts ever

Definitely extra bottles. They have some Naturals flavors that are really good.
If you're feeling very adventurous, there's a great book on how to DIY soda syrups that we've had lots o fun with - got it from the library, then asked for it as a gift I liked it so much!
The Sodastream ginger ale and Dr Pete are my faves!

We have two of the 1L bottles and one of the glass bottles. The glass one can't be used for carbonation but dh makes soda in it by pouring in the carbonated water and syrup. It can be placed in the dishwasher when we're finished. The carbonation bottles cannot be placed in the dishwasher.

Just an FYI - when you need a new canister, you can do the exchange at Bed Bath and Beyond and you can use a coupon on that, too.

Ooh, I've had my sodastream for a couple years and didn't know they had small bottles for it. Where do you find those????

We just got one too! The sampler pack came with it; DH said the diet cola tasted sweeter than he's used to and more like coke (he likes Pepsi).
I need to check out the books and websites with the homemade syrups. Those sound like fun.

We bought the base model for DGS. I thought there was only one size bottle. Will have to check them out.

I got one too...yay!!!
Quick question: do the colas have caffeine in them like regular sodas do?

I always use the smaller bottles. I pour a 16 oz bottle of water into the container and it's perfect.
I only use it for carbonated water, so I don't think it would be good for a soda or whatever flavor to use for the family.
