Tomorrow is both a happy day as we celebrate Baby Beau's first birthday and a sad day as we remember our beloved Claudia and her passing. I cannot believe this year has flown by so quickly.

Just a reminder Tomorrow is Claudia's angel anniversary. Let's all do something in her name...reach out to a missing RAKKER....pay for someone's coffee....

My wish for this new year is that those who have not posted in a long time, stop in and say hi. There are too many missing.....too many who never answer my emails.

Cards for Claudia Is anyone sending me any more???

good morning girls!

hard to believe it's been a year since we lost Claudia... she and the family are definitely in my thoughts and prayers right now.

has everyone received their SS gifts now? I am still waiting anxiously for mine, but i really think they use the pony express out here in the extreme southwest when it comes to delivery service. Sorry Lisa..... I know it's coming! Don't worry!

Alicia...great pics!! Thanks for sharing.

A dear friend's granddaughter died yesterday...she had Krabbe disease....if only she had been born 4 months later, she would have been screened here in NYS for it. Madison was 6.5 yrs old.

Bitter sweet day today. Spent time with my parents, then with DD and lastly with DS, DIL and Nephew.

It is so freaking cold here too.

Hi Ladies!

Alicia - Love the pics! You look so happy!

Denise - I have been thinking of you today. I hope everything went ok with your Mom.

Last night my niece's best friend took herself to the ER about 2 am. She doesn't have any family close, all of her family live in Ark about 5 hours away. My niece was with her until she had to leave to go to work this morning. She has a history of kidney stones and after running some tests that found that she does in fact have a 4 cm kidney stone and several others. At first they were going to send her home with pain meds but then her blood pressure kept dropping so they decided to keep her. When my niece had to leave for work I decided to go to the hospital. I just couldn't imagine my daughter being at the hospital alone. (My nieces friend is 25) When I got there she wasn't in the room (in the er) that she was assigned to. I asked at the nurses station if they had moved her or taken her to surgery and the nurses had no idea. As I was standing there I saw her come out of the doorway down the hall (she had gone to the restroom... by herself, toting her iv bag). She took about 3 steps and dropped to her knees. I ran down the hall to her and she said she was going to be sick. Thank goodness there was a basin sitting on a cart there in the hall. I grabbed it and turned just in time. The whole time no one offered to help. Finally a lab tech came by and got me a wheelchair to get her back into the room. Again.. no one offered to help. We were in the ER for another 2 1/2 hours before the urologist came in to see her. He said he was going to admit her and watch her for tonight. In total I was with her for almost 3 hours in the ER and saw a nurse 1 time! Only because she finally pushed the button to see if she could get something to drink. I was at the hospital with her most of the day until her Mom got there. I felt so sorry for her. I know the hospital staffs are overworked but I was dissappointed in the care that she received in the ER today!

I really intended to take down Christmas decorations today but didn't get to it... maybe tomorrow!

Today is the day that they are moving mom but we were told not to be anywhere around their house today. I don't think I could without totally falling apart so we quietly said our goodbye's yesterday. I am not sure how my dad is going to handle it today. Mixed emotions - sadness but freedom from that stress. We all feel the same way - a New Year a New Start.

Hoping to hear something on my offer today. I have a few errands to run today and then I have to work so that will help keep my mind off everything.

Denise...good thoughts my friend for today. It will be ok. I hope that the beginning of 2013 is a great one.

Kristy...what a RAK thing to do for your daughter's friend. Hope she is better today.

My parents left about 30 minutes ago on their trip south. Good thoughts for them as they drive about 12 hours today. They do stop every 3-4 hours and walk around. My dad will text me as they hit major cities!

Off to get some shopping done today..Abbey needs some doggie food!!

Hi ladies! it is a cold, nasty rainy day here today. Just me, DH & the dogs home today and we are being fairly lazy so far. I have taken a shower, removed sheets & comforter from the bed and they are in the washer & dryer but other than that so far not much. I'm trying to work up the energy to start taking the decorations down but need to fix lunch first!

Praying for you Denise... I hope you all can find peace with this change for your Mom.

Ok girls... DH got me a Kitchen Aid mixer for Christmas... anyone have favorite recipes that they make with theirs? Thinking I might make some bread this afternoon.

Hi ladies

I wanted to check it with you today. Thought I could have done it yesterday but I am still working around this bug that I have caught. I get up for awhile and then I have to go back to bed. I actually do sleep. Still haven't seen a Dr. with the holiday hours. I am improving so I think it is just better to stay in. Anyway, I am fine now that I am home. I can go sleep when I want and it is so QUIET.

I managed to set up my new computer and LOVE it. Now I have speed and don't have to wait forever for the internet to be active. It will be a learning experience but I love challenges. Now I can edit my Christmas photos.

Alicia Your photos are lovely. Congratulations. You look so happy.

Denise I hope all goes well for you. Change can be a good thing.

Kristy You were so kind to go and stay with your daughter's friend. The medical care seems to be suffering everywhere. I would not go to the hospital unless I was desperate. I wasn't even able to see my Dr before Christmas with all the flu about.
My DD gave me a kitchen aid machine in 1997. I LOVE IT! I use it for everything. It makes baking such a joy. I am sure you are going to love it. Now your hubby will expect baking everyday.

Christine Sorry to read about the little girl. Tragedy seems to be everywhere. Thank you for the lovely card. I love that snowflake embossing folder.

I can't believe that Claudia has been gone a year. Tonight (New Year's Eve) is always sad for me. It is the anniversary of my older sister passing away. I try to remember our good times but that cloud is still there. My thoughts are with Claudia's family. I must send a card to them now that I am home.

I noticed that we had a lot of rakkers checking in over Christmas. That was so nice, so perhaps they will visit more often. You are doing an amazing job Christine.

Well that is it for me today. I have to search for bills to return some stuff from Christmas. Lots of fun. I won't be going out until kids are back in school and people have returned to work.

HAPPY NEW YEAR'S EVE. Keep safe if you are driving and celebrating. Very quiet here. Take care. Ruby

LISA!!! Your package has arrived!! Thank you so much for the great gift! The thoughtfulness of the cardinal stamp and embellishments is much appreciated. I have never used those adhesive dots before so I am looking forward to those. And of course you can't go wrong with M&Ms. Everything made it in tact, although the box took a beating! I can't believe you mailed it on the 13th and it arrived today... 18 days later! What makes it worse is you took the time, effort, and expense to mail it priority! And only coming from CO, you would have thought it wouldn't take much time. The PO has been a disappointment to many this year.... I'm all for things that make sense.... I get extra time is needed during the holiday season and all... but how many of my boxes to AfGHANISTAN have made it within 10 days or so?
Sorry, I'll get off my soapbox, and don't want to take away from your great gift. Thank you again for being so thoughtful.

I just came back from "shopping.".... a few things I want to say:
For your cardinal lovers, they have some very nice cardinal holiday throw rug like things at Kohls for only $5.00. I picked one up. I had seen some hand towels I was going to get but those were all gone. Glad I picked up 1 when I did!

Old Navy had signed everywhere that basically said up to 75% off most of the store. I went for a pair of jeans, and guess what? not on sale AT ALL! $30 for OLD NAVY JEANS is just too much! Disappointed in that.

Went to Goodwill to try to find an old trunk/suitcase (see the thread I started earlier today). I didn't find anything, but noticed 2 things. First, things are way to expensive in Goodwill. I saw price tags for things that were close to the regular price in a store. Second, I was reminded that I don't like to go into 2nd hand stores. I also don't like garage sales, and I don't think we have any antique stores 'in these here parts,' so I'm thinking I'm not going to end up with a trunk. lol

I realized that a lot of this post has to do with $. didn't realize I was so cheap. lol

DH and I are staying in tonight. We normally go to the same friends house every year for a house party but they are away this year. We've already had supper but will have some fun snacks later on and perhaps a beverage. I will probably be in bed before the new year arrives.

Christine Beau's first birthday is tomorrow. He was born on New Years Day. I can't believe that he will be a year old already. He's not walking yet but stands on his own and walks around furniture. There was going to be a big party at Annie's parents house tomorrow but Annie's sisters whole family is sick and unable to attend so she's changed it to next weekend.

Tomorrow I will cook a ham for us and my mom. It will be a quiet day. Hoping to see Beau for a bit to give him a birthday hug. I did see him today - the last time as a baby. Tomorrow he'll be a little boy!

I wish all of you a truly wonderful 2013.

OOOPS....thought he was a NYE baby!! Just remember as he grows older...those of us with Bdays around the holidays get forgotten...A LOT...And I really mean that. A LOT...my feelings are quite hurt this year. It's sad when the only birthday card I got was from my parents. Yup...ONE....

My parents made it to North Carolina. They have about a three hour drive left tomorrow to their condo.

Happy New Year All.

CHRIS: I sent you a birthday card before Christmas. I will assume it hasn't arrived yet?? It's on it's (slow) way! You weren't forgotten!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

I partied hard last night. We arrived in Albury for the night about 3pm. Spent an hour at a local pub while the boys played pool and I enjoyed a cider while reading. Back for dinner at the hotel. We turned the Scottish Tattoo on but I fell asleep before it finished, maybe around 10pm? Woke up at 1am to find Geek missing. He'd gone into town to smoke a cigar and came back to a very cranky wife. I didn't know if he was safe or where he was. I was worried and spent the rest of the night awake thinking of how I'd like to carve him up. Damn, he's lucky I like him just a little bit and love him more.

We are finally home with some very happy doggies to see us! We got home a couple of hours ago and I am exhausted! Only took 3 1/2 hours from Albury but I'm ready for a nana-nap! Had to change our bedding when we got in as Charlie (the cav) had been sleeping on our bed. He knows he's not allowed to but the scamp must have missed us. How he got the bedroom door open though is a bit of a mystery!

Tomorrow, I diet. omg, I've put on weight in a week's holiday. I was a little piggie. Now I have to trim down the ham that's my butt!

Gorgeous photos, Alicia! You can see how in love you too are!

Hugs to Denise... I'm sure your parents will adjust. It's just another phase of life. It will be hard but your mum will be better off with the changes.

We had a time of remembrance while driving yesterday with Momma Claudia and all the good people we seem to lose over Christmas. I lost a good friend in '98 just after Christmas. It still hurts. At least we know where they are and will see them again.

My wish for everyone in our group is for the BEST year of growth, love and happiness. May all your dreams come true! Happy New Year, my friends.

didn't realize I was so cheap.

That's not cheap...it's frugal! I went over my grocery receipts for the year and our grocery bill has increased by 24% from last year. At this rate, we will all be broke and hungry!

Kristy - what a sweetheart! I know the mom had to be so glad that you stayed with her daughter. I hate to hear she had such terrible service in the ER. I was hospitalized 3 times the past year, each time through the ER. I was lucky the first 2. A good friend of mine was working as the head nurse and I got "special" treatment. Not so lucky the third.

Denise - I'm so very sorry you are having to deal with an aging parent. It has to be heart breaking. I will keep you in my prayers and will pray that the transition is smooth. Hopefully you will get some good news about the home you have put an offer on.

Tracey - give Beau a happy birthday hug for me! I have a feeling I would spoil the little fellow to death!

It's hard to believe it has been a year since Claudia passed away. She was truly one of the sweetest ladies I know. I know her family has got to miss her something terrible. Praying for all of them tonight.

Spent the day getting Leah ready to go to a conference for her Non-profit license in Atlanta this week and then on to college. I really think she brought every piece of clothing she had at college home with her! She is still trying to work through being diagnosed with Crohns. She was extremely close to my mom and she remembers everything Momma went through. I keep telling her that she has been dealing with it for years, she just didn't have a "name" for it until now. A VERY type A personality and Crohns do not seem to mesh well. She'll have to figure out the hard way how hard she can push herself before she crashes.

Haleigh has spend the night company and Robbie is watching football with Bob. It's nice to have a semi-quite night!

I hope everyone has a blessed New Year!!!

Good Morning and Happy New Year to all the Rak-A-Teers.

Dad and I went to dinner last night at Red Lobster and we had a wonderful relaxing time. I forewarned that I was having a mixed drink and he was fine with that. He totally understood and said if he wasn't a deacon in our church he would too. I needed it yesterday and that is the first drink I have had in about 10 years. Took the edge off.

Then we came home and I am dog sitting for my youngest (not smallest) grand dog, My son and family went to my nephews for the night.

Alicia - I got a trunk at Goodwill this week for $15.00 and it has the inside compartments. I would love to have one of the cardinal blankets but our Kohl's didn't have any. If you go back would you pick one up and I will pay you back postage included. I am going to Hobby Lobby this week and will check for the fabric.

I am so screwed up on my days - being on vacation, working a day, then back on vacation and the weekend, worked yesterday and now off again. WHEW!!!

Managed to clean, toss and organize under the master bathroom counters. Tossed a 13 gallon kitchen garbage bag and have 2 boxes started for my DD and DIL of sample stuff as we all go camping and those are great to take instead of the big bottles.

Printed labels on some pretty cardstock and now to cut them, hole punch and get the mini zip ties to add to the baskets. Will try to take a picture not sure if my phone will let me.

I've had 2 young men living in my house while we were away. We came home to a house that definitely has that 'looked in' feeling! ugh
I see a lot of housework in my future!
Heading out today to get chook and garden supplies. I have a couple of hens that need their roost refreshing with new straw, a lice dusting and a good clean out. Not the kind of job I enjoy but it needs doing.
Time to sort out the messy end of our yard with broken garden pots, dead potted plants, etc. You know *that* corner! Time to get into that.
And I'll also pick up some clear plastic storage boxes to start dealing with the garage. Again. Every time I organise it, a male destroys it. Back in again I go.
Everywhere I look seems to need organising, tidying or cleaning. ugh!
Geek is back at work tomorrow, so I'm going to get him to help me some outside.

Anyone have experience making a fairy garden? I have one huge clay pot that broke in our move. I've kept it to recycle it in the garden until I saw some fairy gardens on Pinterest. Now I need a fairy house! I'll buy some moss and small succulents today to get that started and then I need to find a fairy house online.

Looks like a busy day. I'm going to start by taking the dogs for a walk. They probably didn't get one while we were away! They'll be antsy. Need to get out early as it looks like a hot one today.

Hugs to all that need it.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BABY BEAU!!

Where is the Honourable Quiet Mouse ELLE these days??
I got the most gorgeous rak from her today!
Geek and I picked up mail on the way to the pet store and I couldn't wait so I sat in the car and tore open the package! There were a couple of acrylic stamp sets, embies, washi tape, buttons and chocolate from Trader Joe's which had us laughing like crazy. The back of the chocolate packet says "perfect for after dinner entertaining (or to taunt your backyard squirrels)"! lol, so funny. No squirrels here but the kangaroos might get jealous. And the most gorgeous card with a lovely message.
Thank you Miss Elle! You made my day!!

Good Morning - wasn't as productive yesterday as I wanted to be due to dad doing some clearing out of mom's stuff and extra food. So the 3 girls went through some of the stuff and took what we would use and the rest will go to charity. Also brought mom's 2 favorite chairs home. One is a rocker and the other is a rocker and footstool combo. My oldest male dog has claimed the footstool for his bed.

Did finish laundry this morning - last load in the dryer.

Just needed a family day yesterday and we (my kids and I) were with my dad the majority of the day.

**HAPPY NEW YEAR**

Hope everyone is doing well...I am pooped. Had our families over for New Years Day dinner. New Years Eve we have a family get together at a church hall and we ordered food. It was fun!

Happy belated Birthday to baby Beau!

Alicia ~ Beautiful pictures of the two of you.

Can I ask for some prayers for myself? I am going in for hernia surgery next Tuesday (1/8). I have had it in my belly button and it has gotten bigger and more painful. Little nervous but I am trying to stay calm and can't wait for it to be over with. Be back later to type more...

Beau is sweet! How grown up he looks now.

Lisa, prayers going up for steady surgeon hands, wisdom and peace for you. Get better quick.

Geek is back at work today. I'm still tidying up the house. Bought storage boxes yesterday so will make a start in the garage. It's gonna be a hot one today and close to a hundred on Saturday. eek.

Just got home from work and need to decide what area I am going to work on next - should I continue in the master bathroom/closet areas? I am tired and slowly unwinding from the weekend.

No news on the house yet.

Christine - I would love to come to NY. The only time I was there was after a meeting in Newark and we went over for 3 hours. You can't do NYC in 3 hours.

Ok so now I have Maggie and Christine as a potential client. Gotta get the passport done.

Denise. I am no where near NYC. LOL. I live 20 miles west of Rochester. NYC is 6 hours by car.

HEY!! Me first!! *pushes and elbows in front*
Chris hasta wait!
Denise, you can help me with my garage! oy vey, it's a mess and I don't know where to start. Well, I do but it's a crazy job. I have my catering fridge and a large chest freezer in the garage. I cleaned them out and got them organised yesterday. I'll be moving onto more reorganising of gear today. We ordered a shelving system. Can't wait for that to arrive to actually put things on instead of the floor. And Geek has to finish erecting the small garage we bought for all my gardening supplies.
Office is tidied. Just have to sort through and file receipts.
My kitchen is reclaimed. Christmas gear packed in boxes.
I am making progress!

Geek, Josh and I went to see the Hobbit in 3D last night. I wasn't sure about it. I was disappointed when the movie ended. I really got into it! We have the Lord of the Rings dvd set so I can see a LOTR marathon in my future!

Way to go Maggie - I am so happy that you are working on getting organized. Sorry but I may have to do Chris first as I don't have my passport. But once I get it, the weather should be cooler and tackling the garage would be easier.

Well, I'm running out of days off. It's back to work on Monday. It's going to be a challenge to get off the couch, I've been such a slug for the past few days. No, I'm not sick, just lazy.

I did stick to my promise of getting back on the treadmill in the new year. I walked last night but only for 30 minutes. Need to start slow and work my way back up to an hour. I prefer to walk outside but it's just so cold and dark after supper.

We've had an unfortunate tragedy in our small town. A 27 year old woman went missing in the morning of New Years Day and her body was found yesterday in a field. Not many details yet but it is definitely foul play.

Anna is back in the hospital with a fever and sore throat. She isn't scheduled for her last treatment until Jan 22 so they were hoping to have her home for a bit longer. Please continue to keep her in your prayers.

Lisa keeping you in my thoughts for a successful surgery and speedy recovery. My DH has a hernia and we are waiting to hear about a surgery date for him.

Alicia.....I think that either Maggie is coming to the US or Mindy is headed to see Maggie. That's my guess from the postings on facebook.....

Well Ladies - I hope your PEA gathering is awesome! Definitely must share pictures. I would guess Mindy is going there!

Couldn't sleep so have been up for almost an hour. Going to start on the linen closet and go from there.

Got the linen closet, spare bathroom organized. I have 1-1/2 shelves and the floor now empty. I put blankets in the steamer trunk I bought and tossed a bunch of stuff - ratty towels, linens, etc. (don't need more rags), 1/2 empty bottles of stuff, etc.

Now on to the master bedroom closets.

good morning girls!
still snowing here... I thought it was supposed to snow overnight, with 2-6" accumulation. Doesn't look like it snowed any more last night, but is coming down lightly now. Not expecting it to stay... granted, I didn't expect SNOW yesterday! lol The phone calls, emails, fb posts are cracking me up... apparently we made news all over!

yesterday I did a whole lot of nothing. the girls and i played some card games last night, but that was it! Today i have to do something.... some cleaning/organizing, scrapbooking, getting ready for work next week, something! right now i'm just staring out the window at the snow.

someone mentioned ELLE earlier... I sent her a Christmas card, and it was returned. it had a weird stamp on it too, something like "not deliverable at this time." no idea what that means and now i don't know where i put it. has anyone talked to her at all?
