I assume from this that she never picked her up. Disgusting.
From her blog:
Just a note to those who might be visiting from you know where: I schedule my blog posts in advance when I'm on vacation. The number of hits I've gotten from your website even during my vacation are minimal compared to my overall hits. You can stop visiting this blog for updates relating to the issue. I am not going to give one. Comments relating to it on this blog will be deleted. No matter what the decision our family made on the issue you are so curious about, it will be wrong because we chose not to turn around 400 miles in to our trip to deal with it. You will be pleased to know that my 3 year old screamed (for "fun" and not crying) for most of the 12 hour drive in both directions. It was not pleasant. That is all the self "set up" torment I plan to endure. We thought we had planned well enough for a car trip with her and didn't.

The Humane Society called the family while they were on vacation to alert them that Penny had been found a few miles from their home. ADD_Housewife posted a thread but mentioned she had no plans to cut her vacation short to turn around and retrieve Penny. The shelter let her know that it would be unlikely that they'd be able to keep Penny for the length of their vacation.
Many Peas made a number of great suggestions on how to get Penny out without having to go home early, and ADD_Housewife hasn't returned to update on the situation.

Cliff notes: Add lost her dog Penny in Oct. Sometime around christmas the shelter clled to tell her they'd found Penny. Add was on a trip so couldn't get the dog right away and they told her they may not be able to hold Penny. Add didn't come back and let us know what happened to Penny. |

Sounds to me as though they released Penny to be adopted, probably the best decision for all of them.
It would be nice to know though for sure. She was the one who posted about Penny missing in the first place. |

ditto. and talking about her screaming dd is somehow related...how? like she's the reason they wouldn't turn around...acting like that was the ONLY solution.
the whole situation is f*cked up and I pray her family NEVER EVER gets another animal to tease and torture. not okay Micki in how you and your family treat your animals. and I'm pretty easy going in terms of how people decide to get a puppy vs. adoption vs. outdoor only etc. YOU, Micki, should never ever own a pet. your dh is lazy about his animals and doesn't know how to treat animals either. |

I did. She was given many suggestions for options to get Penny out to make sure she wasn't euthanized. If none of those worked out, I do think she should have gone back for Penny. |

Well that's a strange update.
I don't know anything about the OP other than the fact that I recognize her avatar, and I saw the 'Christmas miracle' thread. I didn't know her pet was missing, didn't know she had a blog, and I had no idea there was a 'backstory,' so I'm not / wasn't biased against her whatsoever.
But that's quite a 'I'm a victim' update. From what I saw on the thread, plenty of people mentioned alternatives to them cutting their vacation short - I remember suggestions of call your vet, call a dog walker, call a friend/neighbor, etc.
And plenty of people defended the OP and said that the dog had been gone for quite a while, and at some point you have to go on with life; not sit around forever waiting for the dog to come home, no matter how much you miss the pet.
And obviously the fact that her kid screamed is completely irrelevant. How bizarre.

I don't think so. More likely they are the kind of owners that view pets more as property and it was likely too costly/time consuming to retrieve her.
My family kind of had that same view of dogs/cats/etc. when I was growing up. Our dogs were outdoor animals used for property protection and as long as there is more than one and they can form a pack, I think that's probably alright. Not ideal, but alright.
My views changed years ago. My Lucy is a family member. If she had somehow gotten out and was lost I would be out of my mind with worry. I certainly would cut short any vacation just to be reunited with her, if I could even go on a vacation with her missing.
I understand though, that not everyone feels this way about their pets. Hopefully Penny is now with another family (and Sheldon and any other pets they had). Hopefully she and her DH have finally determined that they are not pet-type people...at least not for now when their lives are so full and busy. |

I hope Penny did not get put to sleep. I really wish that nothing had been said and I just did not know. It breaks my heart for any animal to be at the shelter. I will never forget the sad little faces when we adopted our Jack Russell. I went home and cried because we could not help them all. This just breaks my heart. Hopefully ADD had someone pick her up for them and has just decided not to converse about it any more on here. She seemed excited about Penny being found when she created the thread about it.
I will say that if one of my dogs went missing and I got a call that it had been found, at the shelter or anywhere else, I would be in my car within minutes to go collect my baby and drown them with hugs and kisses. It would not matter if I were 5 minutes away or half a world away, my pets life is too important. But then, I most likely would not be out of town and would instead be spending everyday searching for my baby.
As far as the screaming baby. When one of my DGD's was a little over a year old, she screamed almost an entire 11 hour trip. We survived. We did have trouble hearing for awhile, but it made us appreciate quiet times. |

I've always liked ADD Housewife so I am not going to start bad-mouthing her now, no matter what my opinions are. I know what I would have done in that situation but ... It is her life and her decisions to make.
I don't know what happened to her pets, but really it is none of my business. I just hope both dogs have a good home. They seem like sweet dogs.

I wish I could say this is unbelievable, but after reading about the careless way OP's family has treated at least FOUR animals this year, I am not surprised.
My guess would be that they left Penny at the shelter and figured what was done, was done. Honestly, I was just hoping for an update that indicated that ADD and her family had made arrangements to have Penny picked up or adopted without cutting their Christmas vacation short. There were a lot of ways Penny could have been cared for here, but my guess is that none of those options were even explored.
We can only hope that Penny survived her week in the shelter and/or was rescued by a truly caring family.
How disgusting.

Sorry, but I believe the original story that her "husband" let poor little Penny out and couldn't be bothered to make a point to stand there while she did her business in hopes she would wander off. It is just too bad that the husband could not have made an adult decision to re-home or turn Penny over to the Animal Rescue instead of just dumping her. Hopefully the local Animal Rescues will have them on their radar if they ever try to adopt again.
Personally, I "get" from her blog and her comments on 2Peas, they are overwhelmed with the responsibility of their 6 children (evidently they all have schooling "special needs",) the house they are restoring is a money pit and they live too far above their means with only his teacher's income and her occasional free-lancing jobs (she had a thread about money problems and traveling) and the dogs were just an expense they could not afford, so bye bye doggies.
And don't worry, she will be back looking for "hits" for her blog because they are doing a major renovation on their "money pit" and like a "holiday" box of Crisco cookies, she will be over here shilling the pics for hits. |

Is it possible that she has limited internet access while on vacation, and just hasn't been back yet to update?
I probably wouldn't have cut my vacation short either, but I sure as heck would have had someone rush right over to the shelter and pick up my dog.

It's sounds as if they didn't do anything to get the dog back. But she's saying the peas won't be satisfied with what they decided to do because she didn't go home to get the dog. Which isn't true because plenty of people said to make arrangement's for someone to get the dog and that way they wouldn't have to cut their vacation short. The whole thing is just a mess. |

Nobody knows what happened and nobody will know; ADD is back from her vacation and posting to her blog but has made it clear that she won't come here to update. The OP of this thread shared ADD's little "eff you" to the Peas. It sure doesn't sound like there was a happy ending for Penny here.

What a POS!!
I should not be surprised, judging by the way she allowed her daughter to go to school dressed like a homeless kid.
She seems way more interested in her crappy blog than caring for those she is responsible for. I for one think her bog is horrible. The recipes and food photos look like something Penny barfed up. Her DIY projects look like her 3 year- old did them in the dark. Her couponing is a collection of shit nobody should feed their kids.
Bitter.... Yes, I am I wish she hadn't posted her "Christmas Miracle". If she wasn't going to get the dog why did she bother? I agree with the poster above, it breaks my heart thinking of Penny in the shelter. I pray she found a good home. |

That is all the self "set up" torment I plan to endure.
meaning on top of enduring that torment she wasn't *also* going to come here and post an update just to be ripped a new one because whatever decision she made would be the wrong one for the peas.
