Looking for recommendations. We'd like to stay right on the beach / boardwalk so we can overlook the ocean.

Preferably in something w/ a small kitchenette so we can eat b'fast and lunches in the room and go out to dinner.

Clean and comfortable but not too pricy.

Thanks!!!

Everything that would be on the ocean is jacked up pricey.

Your best bet is to go to Kayak.com and check out all the sites they list for hotels, and click on 3 or 4 star ratings to see what customers think about the place. They're really reliable!

Sorry had to laugh at that.

When are you going? Now or in summer?

This is where we stayed when we went to VB a few years ago:

Holiday Inn and Suites North Beach

It was at the north end of the board walk, so it wasn't as busy and loud. The hotel was under major construction, but most of it was done when we were there. Very nice rooms. Nice kitchenette area. Separate sleeping area and living room/kitchen, dining. We had an ocean front room, and it was absolutely awesome to wake up every morning and watch the dolphins swimming/playing right in front of us. The rooms are done with beachy/happy colors.

The pool area was very nice, there's an indoor/outdoor cafe type place, drinks by the pool, and a nicer restaurant on the top floor of one of the buildings. There was a little indoor lazy river (and I mean small) and they were just finishing up a smaller outside swim area that we didn't get to see finished.

The biggest issue was the elevator. They had one, it was extremely sloooooooow, and walking up a flight or 2 wasn't the end of the world. But in the summer, when it's hot and humid, it got to be a pain.

Other than that, I don't have any other complaints and I'd go back and stay there again. BUT...it was expensive. I *think* we paid $300 or $325 a night for the ocean-front room. But since we don't take a bigger vacation every year, that's our splurge. We get the best room we can afford, and waking up to the ocean was my priority and well worth the price.

I've never done it, but my friends have. But they stayed in the Hilton for really cheap thru Gold Key vacations. They did have to listen to a vacation time share spiel for about an hour and they declined and then got a dinner or something.

I've stayed in a gold key vacation in NC with no timeshare thing.

Here's a link. gold key

And I've had people around here trying to sell their turtle cay resort weeks too so maybe that could be an option. Although I know nothing about it like if it has a kitchen.

good luck. have fun.
