Just watching the 10:00 PM news here and they have updated the number who have died from influenza in Minnesota to 60. Has your state been hit hard?
|Posted: 1/17/2013 10:06:38 PM|
They talk about it on the news as though it's hit NC hard, but I don't know anyone personally yet who's had the flu this year. I had to go to the ER last Thursday, and I was dreading it, thinking it would be chock full with people coughing and hacking all over. I was the only person in the ER, and didn't hear a single cough for the entire four hours I was there. Big relief.
I hope things improve soon, all over.

YES! I know lots of people who have been struck with Flu A (all of them had the flu shot). My 13 year old son was diagnosed today, so it's hitting home. UGH! Thank goodness he has Tamiflu and doesn't seem to be as bad off as some people!

It's just starting here. It went from "sporadic" in the last week of December to "widespread" the first week of January.
As of yet, I don't know anyone with the flu, but the number of cases is still fairly low in Oregon.

I had a flu shot in September and I still got the flu this year. It was not at all fun. Our state in the east is listed as red, or a high number of cases reported.

Hope the rest of the Peas all stay healthy, too! We haven't been affected by it at our house yet and keeping my fingers crossed it stays away.

My 7 year old DS has had it since Sunday. Took him to the dr today to get checked for an ear infection. Ears are fine, just has the flu. He's really miserable!

Yes in Arizona! They said it is hitting earlier because we had an unseasonably warm winter. In December we had days that were 85!

Actually heard on news this morning TN is one of the hardest hit states. I know several people that have had it including children--even tho they had the flu shot.

The sister of my older dds boyfriend was hospitalized due to the flu earlier this week. My younger dds friends are falling ill like a domino chain reaction.
School is out for 3 days next week here, so I hope a lot of sick folks are able to rest and recover then come back to a healthier environment.

Definately here in TX. I posted earlier about my dd whose good friend lost his mom Dec. 20th to complications from the flu. She was healthy, active, in her 40s, homeschooled all her kids, etc. Her memorial service is tomorrow. She had 7 kids (I thought only 6 but I didn't count one) ages 1 to 18. This really shook us and all of us have now had our flu shots.

Apparently, my county was hit hard in December. The newspaper reported over the weekend Kennestone Hospital had 37 times the number of cases in December as compared to Dec 2011.

I think we're done. There were tons of kids out from school with flu before Christmas, but now, everyone seems to be well. Only a few runny noses.

I haven't looked at the CDC numbers but considering I have relapsed or been re-infected, Texas must be the dang epicenter of this flu season.

At least in our small, central Iowa town, we haven't had it too bad. Not sure what the numbers are state-wide.

my area is full of it, I just happen to work at a place that made everyone get the flu shot or get fired and we have had the most people calling off than we ever have had in the 4 years I have been there, hmm must just be a coincidence that everyone is super sick this year. I had it a few weeks after my flu shot but I will say I didn't have it as bad as other people seem to be getting it

According to the news, we are one of the few states not hit hard yet. But, I know quite a few people that have been sick, either flu or that bad cough going around.

DS has said there are a lot of kids out with it and that there have been a lot of kids sent home after puking or having a high fever at school. I am hoping we already had it an won't get it again. I know they said that a lot of people are getting it more than once or a different strain or something. I don't want to be sick again so I am washing my hands a lot and working on wiping things down more than normal. Two people have died in our county in the last week or so and there have been 5 deaths in California so I guess while it seems bad so far it isn't as bad as some states. I just hope that we can avoid getting sick again. It was a nasty bug this year.
We were exposed at Christmas and all but one person got it at that time. They have been saying to avoid going to the hospital unless you absolutely have to as they are full and don't want sick people spreading it. I know they have been cancelling elective surgeries and telling people not to go visit people in the hospital.

I live in Central NY and we got hit early, way before Christmas, I knew so many people who had it (including me) and now no one seems to be getting it. I think our state just hit earlier than most, not sure.

Definitely here in Indianapolis. There are restrictions on visiting people who are in the hospital. I'm not sure what the restrictions are but I'm just glad I don't need to go there for anyone or anything.

We're in the low category on the CDC website. On Wednesday evening, the news reported the first flu related death in the state.
