Has anyone made their own sea salt/beach hair spray?

I bought some today (Marc Anthony Dream Waves Beach Spray) and I was surprised at how well it works. DH even commented on it and he had no idea that I had used something.

But the price - ouch.

I've seen all sorts of recipes on Pinterest, but I wonder if any truly work as well as the kind that is already formulated - water, sea salt, coconut oil or conditioner? Seems a little too easy if it really works. I did check out one site and she had a photo of her hair afterwards and it wasn't nearly as "beachy" curly as mine got today but I'm sure it varies by hair type too.

I cannot imagine putting salt on my hair. Is that really OK?

Sea salt gives your hair volume. I tried the Bumble & Bumble beach sprays and didn't like it because it make my fine hair kind of sticky. Try making a small amount and see how you like it.

I can't imagine encouraging beach hair. I have the worst beach hair ever!! It gets ugly as soon as we cross the bridge into the coast town.

I like the brand I used, but I have thick, wavy hair and I think it really defined the waves better than my natural wave normally falls. It borders on a nice loose curl with this spray.

The recipes I've seen have just a small amount of salt but also use coconut oil or conditioner. Given that most styling products are full of alcohol and many women heat the heck out of their hair with blow drying, curling or straightening, I don't think that a teaspoon or two of salt in an 8 oz mixture is going to be too bad if hair is otherwise not abused.

Gray hair burns easily so I try to find ways to wear it that I don't have to flat iron or curl with heat.

Sounds like the concoction would be healthy for your hair if anything, give it a try. I think I used too much of the B&B stuff and that's what weighed my hair down. We live near salt water. In the summer when it's hot and sweaty you can also feel the weight of the salt in your hair. Always makes me want to jump in the shower.

Just wondering if you ever tried making one and what you thought.

I recently tried the B+B Surf Spray for the first time and it's freakin' amazing for my hair. I just got a small trial size in a 'value pack' of a number of B+B products and am a bit at the price of a full bottle. I'm totally in love with it but if there's something that works as well without the big price tag, I'd be thrilled.

I'm keeping my eye on this thread, hoping for some tried and true recipes. We've just spent the weekend at the beach and my son's hair looks awesome with salt water spiral curls! I told him we would have to find some surf hair spray so he can have hair like that all the time!

I made a sea salt and water only recipe from Pinterest. I use it to refresh my curls in the middle of the day - don't need it much in the morning. It works great for me. I have dry, color treated, curly hair. It has not done damage to my hair.
