My middle dd's drill team had an all day competition. At lunch break, my dh, older dd and I went to Wendy's drive thru where I ordered chili with cheese.

I sprinkled the cheese into my chili and put the lid on it to let it melt for a few minutes. When I stirred my chili, what I thought were melty cheese strings looked icky upon closer inspection. I grabbed a "cheese string" and pulled. And pulled. And pulled. It was a hair that was probably over a foot long. gag. It most definitely was NOT my hair.

We drove back to Wendy's and I went inside. I opened the lid and pulled the hair out (and out and out). I hear the people in line behind me gasp! The cashier said, "no problem, I will get you a new one." I told him that I wanted a new one AND a refund since I had to drive all the back to Wendy's with my hairy chili. He told me that he could do one or the other, to which I replied, "I can call the health department". I was very matter-of-fact, not rude and not angry, just grossed out!

Was I wrong to expect both? I guess I should be grateful that it wasn't short and curly.

(the reason I asked for both a new one and a refund is because if our pharmacy makes an error we make it right and refund the patient, as well as document it. I guess I just expect that they would refund my $$ since I had to come all the way back.)

FTR-I was given new chili and a refund.

I would have just asked for a refund then gone to another restaurant. Why would I want chili from the hairy pot?

I agree, the refund and a letter to the manager, but I would NOT have taken another product of any sort. I would to be too grossed out to eat something else from them.

Just as an aside what is it about hair that is so disgusting in food? Even if I make the food and I know for a fact it's my own hair, it still makes me gag? Why is that?

Eek!! I know you're from Spokane... I'm scared to ask which Wendy's... Such a mental thing, finding hair in your food...

I'd asked for a refund.

The health department wouldn't really do anything for a hair. They might do an inspection, but it wouldn't be on the top of their list.I

At least it wasn't a finger! No joke, several years ago here in CA we had someone trying to scam Wendy's by taking a severed finger (from a co-worker - can't remember the circumstances on the severing) and putting it in a bowl of Wendy's Chili. Somehow they were caught and went to jail, but yuck!

Yes, at least it wasn't a finger!

I think they scooped out the new bowl from the same pot.

I would've just asked for a refund.

Years ago I found a cricket in a bowl of Wendy's chili. The manager was mortified! I got a refund and a free meal (I chose a cheeseburger instead). My friend that had bought me dinner told me I was the best cheap date ever.

I did watch as they removed the pot of chili and took it in the back.

Makes me gag just thinking of it! That's one thing that really grosses me out. I would have asked for a refund and been done as there's no way I'd be able to eat anything. I would imagine that
a new one came out of the same pot where the hair had been simmering.

You are better than me if you could eat even another cupnofnthat chili, Wench.

As to why a stray hair is so gross....I don't know, but I'm the same way. It's like pulling hair out of a drain.

I don't think you are out of line for asking for both. I agree that it was a big inconvenience to have to return with the indelible chili.

I'd have just taken the refund, though. No way I'd want chili from that pot. Truth be told, it would be a very long time before I could get over the mental block to order chili from there again.

Hair is so foul. I know we consume things far more gross on a daily basis, but there is just something about hair that disgusts the world.

I would have just wanted a refund - definitely not more chili

I once ordered a burger and fries from a Jack in the Box - the fries included a fried moth.

The staff wasn't very apologetic; they just issued me the refund (as if it wasn't the first time) and asked me if I wanted them to dial their 800 customer service number. I left with my refund but without calling and went to another restaurant but had a hard time eating (no fries for sure!!!)

I was on the road at the time and it ended up being a long drive home

Its a hair.. not a toe. Do you think the health department is going to run out for an inspection because of a hair?

No. And no one else in the thread thinks that either. But a hair in my food is GROSS and I will complain about it and ask for a refund.

Omg!! What's up with Wendy's and hair??? On Thursday my daughter was craving Wendy's after her water polo game. Her kids meal comes with a frosty, and yup you guessed it, a hair right on top. She was so grossed out.

No, I really didn't. And I am not sure why I took another chili-dumb on my part-but I was very hungry. I inspected it carefully before I ate it

Yes you were wrong to expect both but they were smart to provide it.

I'm sorry that happened and would have been grossed out. I'm still boycotting Sbarro after finding a curly hair in their pizza 25 years ago.

My response was in regards to the poster who said she would call the health department. I live in a house full of boys so maybe I don't get as grossed out as I should. I would have handled it the same way Scrapwench did. If we really knew all the crap from other people that landed in our food we would never leave the house.

They should have offered both a refund and replacement meal.
Though I'm not sure I would have wanted another meal, especially chili after that

Well, I hate to add to this, but a few weeks ago at Wendy's there was a long black hair in my salad. I'm blonde but they did all have their hair back
