DS is 8 and his adam's apple just popped out pretty prominently within the last few weeks. No pain, yet he has had varying redness and a little swelling on it. Now it is pretty solidly red with a slightly smaller than dime size white-ish welt on the center. I haven't seen him touch it at all.

I'm planning to take him in to have it looked at. From what I googled, the age seems pretty young. He is just a very normal size 8 y.o. and none of my other kids ever went through early puberty. Anyone else seen this before?

That doesn't sound normal. I would take him to the doctor. It sounds like a skin irritation of some kind.

yeah, the adams apple thing isn't sudden. It happens gradually. This is not normal. Definitely a trip to the dr. is in order.

That sounds like an infection. Get it looked at pronto.

It really sounds like a boil or carbuncle.

I hope all is well with him....

Keep us updated.

Update: took DS in today an it is not his adam's apple but a Thyroglassal duct cyst. He will go in for a CT scan tomorrow and then likely undergo surgery to remove/correct it. Pretty simple surgery per his doc. It is infected and hasn't drained although seems a little smaller. He has no fever or pain and wasn't scared with what the doc told him. Still mom's a little worried, although expect all will go well. Thanks!

Thanks for the update. Glad you got a clear diagnosis and can move forward with treatment. He sounds like a brave little boy!

Thank you for updating!
I'm sorry to hear he may have to have surgery but thankful it doesn't seem serious!
