I posted several items on Craigslist last week.
The day after I posted them a lady emailed and said she was interested in a lot of the items. We set a time to meet. She lives an hour away and had to reschedule. I thought fine. Stuff comes up, especially when driving an hour, and rescheduled.
The day after that another lady emailed interested in the same items. I told her that someone was supposed to come pick them up but said that I would keep her in mind if the first one fell through. She said that was great.
First lady was supposed to come get the items this afternoon. She emailed me and said that since it was starting to ice outside she didn't want to drive (from an hour away, remember) and wouldn't be coming. She asked if I was ever in her city if I could bring the items to her.
I haven't responded because I'm not sure what the 'right' thing to do it here.
I don't blame the lady for cancelling today as there was a little freezing rain this afternoon and I wouldn't have wanted to drive an hour either.
No, I am not in her city and don't have any desire to drive over there to unload this stuff.
In my mind, fair is fair and lady #1 should have the option of getting the items. But she's had 2 times set up (that she chose, not me) to come get it and she's cancelled both times...and I really want the stuff out of my house!
So do I now contact lady #2 and tell her she can come get the stuff or keep messing around with lady #1? |

Dear lady #1: give me a call when you are able to come & I'll let ya know if they are still available.
Dear lady #2: come on over!

Contact #2 and see if she is still interested. Tell Lady #1 that you will be letting it go to the first person to pick it up.

Although lady #1 may have legitimate reasons for not showing up, people can be flaky. If you want it out of your house, I say first come, first served. Just let her know you needed it out of your house.

Tell the first lady, "I completely understand the reasons you've had to reschedule but since I want these items out of my house ASAP I'm sure you understand that I have to let the first person to pick them up have them. If you're going to be over this way in the near future, feel free to contact me before you come and I'll let you know what's still available."

Flaked twice might have legitimate reasons but I would sell to number two.

I had something similar happen recently. I emailed #1, said that I had another interested party so I would need to either make a final pickup arrangement with her or move on to #2. I know this is the exception for many craigslist experiences, but #1 promptly emailed me back. #1 said, please go ahead to #2 if you have someone else that is interested. Well, #2 ended up flaking, so I decided to reach back out to #1. I told her that #2 flaked if she was still interested. She was, it worked out, item gone.
I guess I just prefer to tell people what's up and that helps me figure out who gets the item. Of course, if I had multiple replies, I would not be doing that.
That reminds me. I really need to list some more stuff on CL. |
