I usually go to a local lamp store. I've always had the best luck there, even if the shades are a little more expensive.

I get plain ones with a shape I like and then cover them with fabric.

We have often asserted and we affirm it yet again that no fact in history is better attested than the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. It must not be denied by any who are willing to pay the slightest respect to the testimony of their fellow men. That Jesus, who died upon the cross, and was buried in the tomb of Joseph of Arimathea, did literally rise again from the dead. (excerpted from Dance Your Shoes Off, Second Baptist Church)

TJ Maxx, Marshall's, Home Goods, and Hobby Lobby have been the places I have had the best luck. But we usually get something kind of plain.

Look at what I found, a place where you can design your own lamp shades. Fun to play with!

Kirkland's Home Store. When I worked at one a few years ago, whenever we had a broken lamp - we would "As Is" the shade and write off the rest of the lamp. We often had quite a variety of shapes/sizes/colors.
