Thanks for all of your great suggestions...the trip almost didn't happen as we had to take my dad to the hospital on Friday. However at 1am after talking to the Dr one last time on the phone we decided to go since he was stable, would be in the hospital for at least a week on IV antibiotics and we could get home that same day in case there was an emergency.

We arrived into PIT around 11:30am, uneventful flight. We were surprised how much snow there was on the run-ways and ramp.

I will say PIT isn't a bad little airport, it's small with a nice food court and enough shops to kill time in.

We walked over to the Hyatt @ the airport and they gave us a room right away. WOW what that nice to be right at the airport !!! We were so tired from being up all night that we had to take a grab a quick nap or we would have never made it all day.

We left the hotel around 1pm(ish) and went to Primanti Brothers on University not far from the airport. YUMMMM....we had potato pierogis, I had the roast beef "famous" sandwich and DH had the kielbasa "famous" sandwich. They were really good !!

I'm really glad we went to this one as I loved being with the "locals" it was a fun place and we'd like to go back there again.

We then drove to PITT for the game---or should I say slaughter! Our seats were up in "Heaven". I was kind of disappointed as I hoped it was going to be a "full-house" but it wasn't since they were playing DePaul. I'm sure if it was Notre Dame it would have been.

After the game we drove over to the HofBrauhouse and it was PACKED---we were lucky enough to find a seat at the bar. DH had a liter and we split a big pretzel. The prices on average were about $3 to $4 less than the HBH in Chicago. By now it was almost 8:45pm, we were both pretty tired so we decided to go back to the Hyatt use the pool and order room service, neither one of us was really "hungry". Not how I planned to "end" the trip, but our flight the next morning was at 7am and I didn't want to go 48 hrs w/out sleep. As it turns out we didn't get to bed until after 1am as I was on the phone w/my dad's doctors back in Chicago. We should have stayed out as I would have had a better time!

The only "bad" part of the trip was the flight back to Chicago. Our plane as well as the plane next to us both had mechanical issues due to the cold weather the night before. I guess it had something to do with the hydrolics, and the front landing gear tire's needed more nitrogen due to the cold. There was only 1 mechanic on duty so we had to wait for him to finish with the other plane before he could come and fix ours. Once he got to our plane it took him less than 10 minutes to fix it. Therefore we were 2 hours late leaving. In the big scheme of things it was no big deal for us we were going home to sleep. I was able to sleep on the plane and DH watched Direct TV. I felt bad for people who were making connections and had to re-route.

All in all it was a good quick trip and would really like to come back to PIT in the summer to see the city---the biggest surprise was how “hilly” Pittsburgh is !

Thanks for the great suggestions !!!

Glad you had a nice trip. My parents are from there originally and we used to go back quite a bit. It's been too long since our last trip and I hope to take my kids someday.

My mom and I used to go to great sales in the stores downtown. We once spent 5 hours just in one store. We also love taking in Pirate games eventhough they're not that great a team.

If you go in the summer sometime, you should try to hit Kennywood. It's a great old amusement park with some neat rides.
