I am watching the news showing damage from a tornado in Bartow County. It looks like some of the damage is severe and I am afraid that there will be some fatalities in some of the vehicles that were traveling on I-75. I have a BIL and SIL that live there and we are trying to reach them to be sure they are all right.

I know some of the Peas live in Georgia. Please let us know that you are alright.

One of my best friends lives in Adairsville, where it hit. She said there are deaths and that "Adairsville is gone".
She works in Atlanta and is trying to get home to see if she has a house left.

Please pray for those in the area...

We are not close to that area, but are in Georgia. We are now under a tornado watch - several area schools are being let out early since the worst is due to hit our area around the time schools get out. The rain is coming in spurts and comes in sideways when it does and the wind is pretty bad. Crossing our fingers that all the dead trees on our neighbors property don't come down today - we've had 4 come down in the last 6 years during high wind storms like these, and all have caused damage.
I truly hope everyone is okay in the areas hit hard!

They just said now that there is one confirmed fatality.

She works in Atlanta and is trying to get home to see if she has a house left
I hope she gets home okay and her house is alright. She might be better off to stay off of the road for now. If you can reach her, let her know not to take I-75. They said that it is closed down. My BIL works in Kennesaw and now they have a tornado warning for there, and say that Bartow County could get hit again.

Yeah, I-75 is shut down at her exit, which is right there at her house. I think she's going to try to go in a back way. We haven't heard from her in about an hour so I'm wondering if cell service was knocked out?

I'm watching that cell headed toward Kennesaw... another friend is in that track, just NE of Kennesaw in Woodstock. What a nerve-wracking day!

Hoping your family stays safe!

Just heard from her - she is missing some shingles and has some paint and grill damage. SUCH a relief! So, so thankful.

Glad your friend is okay and her home isn't damaged too bad. I have friends in Adairsville too - waiting to hear if they are okay.

Glad your friend got there ok and there is minimal damage to her house. It has been nerve wracking. The storm should hit here in the next 30 minutes or so, but maybe it will ease up before it gets here.

I'm in downtown ATL on the 24th floor of a high rise building. It's very dark out and I expect our alarms to go off any minute for us to take shelter. This is a scary, dangerous system. Stay safe!

I have family in Atlanta, and my BIL and his family live in Adairsville. I can't get an answer out of anyone and it's making me very nervous.

Be safe everyone, as a life long midwesterner, I have been through more than one tornado, its very scary and they can be very destructive.

I live in North Georgia, in Ellijay. We have had wind and heavy rain all day. Right now it has lighten up a bit, but still raining. I've went to the basement a few times. The rain was blowing side ways.

All schools are holding students until it's safe to let them go on buses. But parents can pick them if they choose. We have some power outages in the county and some roads are closed because of downed trees and power lines.

I'm just waiting to see if my DIL has got home with the grand kids. I did hear reports that they had the kids in the hallways and safe places for awhile this morning. But everything was back to normal as of now. Some of the teachers was posting on Facebook to let the parents know they were safe.

Everyone stay safe.

I'm in North Fulton County and we've been under warnings, but the severest of the storms are actually just starting now.

My best friend lives in Adairsville, off of Exit 306 / Hwy 140 (which is where I75 is shut down). Her neighborhood is fine. They spent about 90 minutes in the basement.

There's one confirmed fatality so far. It appears to have been a mobile home that was torn up where the death occurred.

ETA: The Weather Channel is now reporting two dead. Atlanta news still reflects one.

I'm glad to hear your friend is safe as well and you stay safe!

We were driving home in this mess. I live about 30 miles SE of Adairsville but it was absolutely horrendous. We had lunch in Buckhead and the weather was fine. As we headed home it got progressively worse until we had to pull over because it was impossible to drive. No fun...especially in a Mini Cooper.

I am in North Fulton in the city of Johns Creek (where I work). It is really getting dark here, but the office keep a close eye for weather and we have shelter areas that we go to if needed.

My Son goes to High School in Forsyth County, they let the Juniors and Seniors out early so they could drive home before the storm. He is home now as well as my husband. My Daughter is downtown at GT, just talked to her and she is fine and has a plan on what she needs to do.

Sad to hear of the one death, I hope that is the only one from this storm.

Hope everyone can get ahold of your friends and loved ones that are in the area and that they are alright. They are showing some scenes from Adairsville and it looks to be a mess. CBS Atlanta is saying that there are over 100 vehicles overturned on I-75.

Stay safe GA Peas. The storm is starting here now.

My BIL and SIL are alright. One was in Atlanta and the other in Kennasaw when the tornado hit Bartow County.

Thank you Peas! I never watch the news, so if I hadn't seen this thread this afternoon I wouldn't have heard about the tornado. My entire family lives in GA and I'm on west coast . Fortunately I spoke with many family members today and everyone is safe and their towns were spared. My dad heard the emergency sirens and went to the basement. My Grandparents live about 40 mins from him and they napped through the whole thing
Very grateful for my family, yet praying for those in Adairsville.

My parents live 10 minutes for the tornado site. I live a little bit north, close to Chattanooga. It was scary yesterday! My poor mom was in the closet under her stairway for almost an hour and my niece and nephew were in lockdown at school. Feel so bad for all the victims in Adairsville! I'm about to head that way now... These tornados terrify me!
