DD who is 7 was diagnosed with flu today. Started monday night with cough today is the start of fever. Liquid tamiflu prescribed but I can't find it in stock anywhere.
Pharmacist says she wouldn't give it to her daughter it doesn't truly help, others have said they were worse when they took it- vomitting, etc.
Have you all had good experiences? By the time it gets back in stock it will probably be too late. She is normally healthy no issues and isn't too bad right now. Advil brought fever down and she is eating and drinking ok.

Both of my DS's have had the flu this year. DS 1 (12) did not get the Tamiflu. He was down for one week, and lingered long after that with fatigue. It took a while for him to bounce back. (Dr didn't recommend the Tamiflu for him b/c he was generally healthy, and the flu test was negative...doctor who saw DS2 confirmed DS1 DID actually have the flu).
DS 2 (8) did get Tamiflu. We couldn't find the liquid either, so he was given the 75 mg tablet, which I had to break into applesauce for him to take (he weighs 65 pounds, so his weight allowed this). He was up on his feet in 3 days, and bounced back very well. We went to DC about 8 days after he had the flu, and he was able to enjoy the trip with no problems. IMO, I would do the Tamiflu again for him. I do believe it made a difference.

my neighbor had 4 kids come down the flu. only one got Tamiflu, and she's the only one that bounced back in 3 days, no more coughing (the other 3 kids are still coughing, fatigued, etc). she's a little bundle of energy again and the others are draggin' ass when they get home from school. she highly recommends the tamiflu and will definitely use it again. and it is SO FREAKIN' HARD to find it right now. she had to go to another city to get it.

My DD (now 11) has had the flu four times in her life. Each time, she took the TamiFlu and bounced back like nothing ever happened. Seriously. She was 100 percent better the next day. I'm starting to think she's supergirl or something because she has the highest pain tolerance of anyone I've ever known and she bounces back from illness and surgery like nothing ever happened! I'd try to get the TamiFlu.

DS8 just finished a 5 day dose of Tamiflu. Liquid but he can take pills.
He started tamiflu the day the fevers started (Friday) and Sunday was the last day he ran a fever. We kept him home Monday as he was still tired and Tuesday just because (but he was feeling great), but he's back to school today.

My son took it when he was in 2nd grade and though his brother and I were both hospitalized, he sailed through it! I would hunt it down, the clock is ticking for it to work!
And why not get the pill? A 2nd grader can swallow a pill. |

My 4 yr. old just finished his bottle of liquid, and was bouncing around the house the day after he started it! He's been great ever since, only a lingering runny nose that I think is a side effect of allergies. |
