I want the canvas to be roughly 24x36 size and dimension.
The Beagle is about double the height of the Dachshunds, and about the same length.
I have concerns about my ability to depict these dogs in anything other than standing, in profile. I think I need to get over this issue, or else they won't fit on the canvas.
I've seen folk art depictions of a dog stand on another dog's back, and am open to that whimsical depiction (I am, after all, talking about painting dogs ..)
I just can't figure out how to arrange them on the canvas.
Any suggestions? I'm specific about the canvas size and dimensions because that's what would fit best on my mantel.
I've been thinking about this project for over a year. It's the fitting the dogs onto the space that's holding me back. |

My first thought is to have the beagle in the back and the two dachshunds on either side in front of him/her. OR if you're open to a different size/shape canvas, you could look for a longer skinnier canvas and split it into 3 sections and do a Warhol type of thing.
How well behaved are your dogs? Do they get along well? I'd probably try to do a little photoshoot of them to see what kind of configurations I could come up with. But mine are lazy slugs, so I can pretty much just give them a blanket and they'll typically hang out while I take pictures.
I didn't know you painted! I hope you'll share when you're done!!! |

I don't paint, but my mom does and I'm not afraid to try.
I want something sort of folk art looking, a little cartoony but not too much. SO the representational/realism part of it doesn't scare me. I'm not afraid of it not looking exactly like my dogs.
I like the split canvas idea... thanks!
