This is a really big surprise to everyone. My youngest grandchild will turn 13 next month, and her 43 year old Mom is expecting again. They live in a tiny house and just manage to get by. There is no health insurance. I am very glad but a little worried also. Any peas with words of wisdom?

First of all congrats!
Secondly she needs to learn to NEGOTIATE with her doctors.
I had a "no insurance baby" at 37 (and it was a C-Section) and while it was a struggle to pay it was made more manageable once I told my situation to all involved with my care.
For instance instead of an in office ultrasound I went to one that did 3D but was a doctor so I got a diagnostic for 1/4 of the price of the same thing at my OB.
And they discount a lot for cash.
I had to pay $2K up front but this guaranteed me care throughout the pregnancy no matter what happened moneywise.
She will need to be ultra careful on her eating/health due to the advanced age but it is not a death sentence.
And if she is eligible for ANY government aid then she should take it, it is there for a reason and the baby is more important than pride.

Katie, Thanks so much for the advice, I will pass it along. You are right, the baby is more important than pride.

If things are really that tight, have her check into WIC (through the health dept) and also Medicaid. I know in Georgia, there is Medicaid that is just for pregnant women, and it isn't hard to qualify for it.

And congrats! Even unexpected babies often turn out to be huge blessings!
