We watched it and I was in tears at the end. We had
never seen the stage production but saw the movie
Christmas Day and loved it. This Concert stars Alfie
Boe (NOW I know who he is.) They also have the 1985
original London company come out after the curtain
calls and do some of the songs. It was incredibly
emotional! If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend
it. I got it from our library. |

I think I saw this on PBS and I agree it was wonderful.

This is why I found the movie lacking. In the play every character could sing like gangbusters. Beautiful, clear, strong voices. It was so amazing.

If you ever get the opportunity to go and see the stage version, do so it's well worth it. Totally different from the film. Stage is the stage and a film is a film, two totally different art forms IMO.
I love Alfie Boe ( my heart is fluttering LOL)
He's in the US now on tour - Allenton PA last night I believe.
Have a look at this video of him when he sang at the Jubilee Concert at Buckingham Palace. Listen to it all the way through, there's a surprise at the end !!!

We purchased it from PBS when it was first released. I've watched it several times and love it!
My only complaint is Nick Jonas. He was way out of his league.
I *love* Matt Lucas as Thenardier. |

Yes, I saw it on PBS, as well, when it first came out. It was excellent. I believe Eponine is the same actress as is in the movie. The part at the end with all the different Jean ValJean's is really neat.
I also have the 10th Anniversary concert on DVD and it is also well done. Trivia time - Lea Salonga (who I adore!) is Fantine in the 25th concert, and plays Eponine in the 10th concert. |

Just an FYI (and for future planning purposes!):
"Les Mis" is reportedly going to be back on Broadway in 2014.

We've watched it many, many times. We own it.
I'm not crazy about Lea Salonga as Fantine. I know that's sacrilege, but I don't know - she doesn't do it for me.
And don't get me started on lame-o Nick Jonas as Marius. He looks like he's holding an invisible box the whole time. He is blown out of the water by everyone else and looks like he's a little boy and doesn't know what to do with himself.
But Ramin Karimloo as Enjolras? Holy crap. He's freaking AMAZING. Every time he's on stage he lights it up. |

Yes she is!
On the "HBO: First Look" at the movie, there's an awesome little clip of her finding out she got the part while she was taking the curtain call for "Oliver". Really sweet. Obviously, she was SO excited.

She also played the same part in the London stage production from June 2010 for 12 months.

I saw it on PBS, not only that, but I still have the 10th anniversary on VHS that I taped off PBS fifteen years ago. |

I felt the same way. Lea Salonga has been great in a lot of things, but I could not stand her in this. And Nick Jonas just looked and sounded so bad that I felt bad for him.
I think the stage and film versions just offered different things. I personally love both. |

We also have the 25th and the 10th. We really prefer the 10th anniversary dvd over the other. Like Peabay - Nick Jonas just was waaay over his head. Talk about sacrilege - I prefer Alfie Boe over Colm Wilkinson |
