I just took a phone call -- I've won a 4 day cruise to the Bahamas with stops at private islands -- usual cruise terms -- leaving from Miami or Port Canaveral, valid for XX time limit (I've forgotten -- 18 months perhaps), but 60 day notice is required -- for the price of $98.00 per person (paid now).
Airfare is not included.
Major cruise line - Royal Caribbean or Princess?
Do not have to listen to a time share spiel.

I haven't heard of this before .... What is the "catch"?

The catch is they want your cc info and your buying probably nothing but trouble if you give them info

Hilarious! As I was reading this I just got the call:

Congratulations! You've just won a free cruise to the BAHAMAS!

They want your credit card info. Then in 60 days when you go to claim your tickets and can't because they don't exist you will be past the deadline to dispute the charges.

Were you signed up to win a cruise? If not I would ignore it.

My dh and I won a trip to Disney World. We were sceptical, so we talked with the BBB. Come to find out our mortage company entered us to win the trip. We had no idea, but it was all legit.

We did listen to a time share spiel, but that was only to get $$$ and coupons for different things at Disney. It took two hours of our time. Worth it to us to listen and say, "no thanks."

I just got the same phone call earlier today!! It was an automated voice, so I hung up right after I heard '...cruise to the Bahamas' though. Maybe I should have listened to the rest of it, and I could have gone on the cruise with you, Loydene!!

!!! Thanks!! I did listen to the recorded voice (which is unusual for me) and went ahead and listened to the real person .... but I said no.
So -- sorry -- but I'm not taking the "free" cruise.

Thanks for the info -- I couldn't figure out what it was -- following the TANSTAAFL and "if is sounds too good to be true, it probably is" rules, my curiosity satisfied, I said No, put me on your do not call list, and hung up!

I know exactly what the trick is because DH bought one at a charity auction. The charity thought they had bought a legitimate 3/4 day cruise for $99. The catch was that you had to pay the port fees, etc.

So, I looked up the company online and it seemed really shady. No boats or exact cruises listed.

When you finally get a hold of someone they tell you that you have to pay the port fees and taxes right up front, which is another couple of hundred bucks.

Okay, once they get this out of you, then they have you on the hook. They tell you that you have a year to take the cruise, but every time you try to book, there is nothing available. Then they offer you an upgrade that is really no different from the book price for the cruise, or even more.

Lucky for me, we were only out $150 (which went to a good cause, so hey). I never actually got a hold of anyone at the company. Believe me, I tried, but they never answered. For days. So I started doing some online investigating (BB of the company and sure enough, it was a scam.
