I just went snow tubing today and saw this in the store and bought it! It did get caught in my seatbelt in the car so I will get a different hat for skiing. I saw a bunch of adults wearing this style, now whether or not they were actually doing any sport is up in the air. lol
I need a new hat for skiing and was thinking about getting this in purple. Don't know if the strings will be cute or a hazard?

Annabella - I was thinking it made her head look big, or like she's got a lot of hair tucked under it.
Cute idea, but not quite there. Not sure I would wear it skiing.

I like the style, for teens and early twenty somethings. It's cute for around town. I don't know that it's all that practical for skiing though, nor do I think you'll see many people on the slopes wearing one. |

How can you see her big head for the FUZZY BALLS??? I think that looks like something you would see on a privileged college student thinking they were dressing like a hipster. FWIW, the ones I use to see in the 90s on campus were the authentic multicolored ones from the Andes worn with cargo shorts, a Cotton T-shirt (usually something nerdy involving archeology or anthropology), a flannel shirt tied at the waist, open toe Birkies with crew socks (sometimes white, sometimes khaki but never black or blue) that they picked up at a dig (Mezzo-America was big a big draw because most already spoke Spanish or knew enough to get by.)
Of course, 15 years later my kid has two pairs of fur boots one set black and the other white and she wears them with one of those ridiculous hats that has "teddy bear" ears on it instead of the top knot plus the fuzzy balls (I think that must be standard), so I kinda understand dressing like you stopped in at the clown shop to go and Dub-Step all nite.
Personally, I miss the late 80s, we dressed up in our frilly ruffles or unisex Units and maxxed out the 15 shades of eye shadow with the slash of Hot Pink blusher and matching lipstick. And I can freely admit to burning a small hole in the ozone with my use of hairspray too.
I still love me some Units but the one thing I loved better were the polyester double knit track suits from the 70s that Sue on Glee wears -- much better than yoga pants. |

I don't really care for it and I certainly wouldn't wear it skiing. Those dangling ties are just asking for trouble. Knowing me I'd get one of them tangled on the ski lift (I'm a klutz).
When I ski I first go for function, safety and then cute.

I think you will find most people wear helmets for skiing these days. They keep your head nice and warm and are much, much safer.

Annabella I love it! My DD has a hat in that exact style that she wears skiing (well, under her helmet). Hers is black, pink and white.
If you're worried that the dangly bits will get in the way whilst skiing, save the hat for apre ski! It is so cute, and you could definitely pull it off!

I don't think you could wear it under the helmet. But for before and after, it would work. They are very popular here in the D.C. area. |

I think the hat is cute, if I saw it on someone, especially in purple.
That being said, I probably wouldn't wear it. And for skiing, not sure it's a good idea...I don't ski but DH and DD do, and he bought them hat things that cover the whole face. And they wore hats under the helmet, but the hats didn't stick out from under the helmet. So probably this isn't too practical for skiing...? |

I agree with a previous poster.
I see these "string hats" worn by all of the kids in elementary through high school, but not by adults. I haven't been around the local college campus lately to notice if they are worn post-high school.
It doesn't get very cold in Central Texas though, so maybe it is a regional fashion and more popular in an area where skiing is a local pastime. It doesn't look very practical if you are going to also wear a ski helmet though.

I do not like those kind of hats in snow/ice conditions. The strings and end balls get crusty and cold and are just icky in those conditions. In cold, but dry, I think they are adorable. |

I love those hats. I think they're fun, plus they keep your ears warm and you can tie the cords under your chin to keep them from falling or blowing off. I'm also 42 years old and have absolutely zero f**ks to give when it comes to what other people might think about what I'm wearing on my head. I mean, it's just a knit hat, why not have some fun with it?

And for real, I don't think those strings/pom poms are very safe around a ski lift. Too much stuff to get caught in. Cute for wearing around off the slopes, though.

My ds (17) wears a thin turtle under his helmet.
Please don't ski without one.
The dd of one of my friends was at the bottom of slope near the vending machine. She wasn't going fast, just sliding over, when she fell. She cracked her helmut and busted her nose. The dr. later said that she would have fractured her skull without it.
DS once fell and dented his helmet and busted his goggles falling.
Have fun!

are you an experienced skier or just going to hang out at the slopes and do some small runs
if it's the latter (and what i'd do!) then dress cute
if you are serious about sking then i'd look for something more practical
my dd has a packer hat like that and looks darling in it...me, not so much!

I can see wearing that walking down the street in the winter. If you're anywhere near a ski slope, you need a helmet. Don't think that would fit well under a helmet and like others have said, dangly things and lifts don't work well together. |

Thank you for validating the voices in my head. My dd knew that book from memory by 2. It was her favorite book, and I am forever, to this day, quoting that book.
I guess I should have answered the OP's question. The hat is cute for kids. I think it makes the model look as if she has a cone head. |

I like that style for kids. Not for adults though. I have 2 like that but I would never wear them out of my yard. lol. I wear them when it's freezing cold and I have to go outside to do chores or whatever. I live out in the country, no neighbors, so no worries about someone seeing me.
And I agree about helmets. Remember Natasha Richardson? |

I had a hat like that for skiing when we used to go a lot. Mine was gray ragwool with a Nordic print to match my jacket and pants. It must have been about 15 years ago, so in my defense, I was a lot younger, but still probably older than you, Annabella.
