...to be photographed (BLOG)
I needed this tonight. Such a great blog post. I came to terms with this at Christmastime this year and had the most amazing family photos taken and will make an effort to do them every year!
Do you make sure YOU are photographed often? |

I admit, I am the one who takes photos - 99.99999% of them.
I don't like having my photo taken - I feel fat. I look fat (double chins, grey hair, the whole works) and I too, pull the signature funny face when I do have to submit to having my photo taken.
And you know what - my family still loves me. That blog post did make me think....I just may have to have my photo taken a bit more often.....and I will have to lose the weight as well. |

Good point:
So you're feeling too fat to be photographed? . . . Ok. But you're the only one who notices. The rest of us are too caught up in loving you.

I liked it. And I do get photographed a lot. I take pics and put them on Facebook, of me and the people I am with and the fun we are having. They are. It perfect pics but they are fun. |

Yep. I read a similar sentiment on another site a few years ago and have made an effort to put myself in the picture ever since. I know how I treasure photos of my parents now and pay no attention to whether they were a little heavier than they would like to have been, or if their hair was perfect, or if Mom had on any makeup. I just see the people I loved and the great family memories.
I don't want to get to the end of my life and have my kids wondering why there aren't any pictures of Mom. |

Fat or not. Makeup or not. Dressed up or not. If photos are being taken, you should have your picture taken and included in the event. It isn't as though people are going to remember you thin, fully made up and beautifully dressed just because there were no photos.
My mom is so sad, to this day, that her mom hated being in photos because she felt too fat and she died in an accident almost 40 years ago and my mom has a very few photos of her mother. She would LOVE to have more.

wish i could send it to my SIL. she absolutely refuses to be in photos. she has pitched fits on christmas day and LEFT because someone has taken a pic/video of the kids without checking if she was in the background.
i have been with DH for 20 years and she agreed to be in the professional family photos our photographer took at our wedding. my MIL has that photo of SIL and DH blown up to 11x17 and proudly posted in her living room. it's the only pic of her DD since her high school graduation...

beautiful sentiments...
I am sure that the majority of us have gained a few pounds along the way, a few grey hairs, a few wrinkles but hey who cares? I don;t - they are my evidence of a good life lived.
I know that while I am not in a lot of photos as I am usually behind the camera I do have photos taken as I want to be in the albums with everyone else.

OP - thanks foe posting that! I needed it today of all days. We are having family pictures taken today - extended family. We have been talking about this for a few years. My brother and SIL scheduled and paid for a session as our Christmas gift. So we are doing. I have put it off for years because I wanted to lose weight first. But I haven't. So the pics are happening today with all my extra pounds.
That blog is right. I need to go and have fun. We are doing them at the park and there is snow on the ground. If we don't freeze, I think they will be great. Maybe I will even post one |

A bit of a threadjack - I avoided the camera not because I was fat but because I had such a bad experience. The ex would go out of his way to make sure any picture he took of me would end up either embarassing or just be ruined - for example he would take a picture of me about to take a bite of cake so my mouth would be wide open or he would have his finger covering my face "by mistake". He never once took a picture of me that was just a nice photo and of course, it was never his fault - I ruined them by my timing or it was the camera not working right, etc. I just became so accustumed to "ruining" pictures if I was in them and had become so averse to having a camera anywhere near me that even if it wasn't the ex taking the pics, I scurried out of the shot.
After I left the ex, I was going through the photo albums and finally noticed that after 25 years I was in less than a dozen photos. Made me sad that so much of me was missing for long (in more ways than one...). I vowed to be in front of the camera more often and my kids are thrilled. And SO never knew about my photo phobia - he constantly snaps pictures of me and it turns out pictures can be nice with me in them.
It has taken some getting use to but I must admit, I love looking at the pictures of my family with ALL of us in them!

My Mom died 27 years ago. She hated having her picture taken. I have very few pictures of her. It makes me sad. So, no matter my weight, haircut, etc., I make sure that there are pictures of me. Hopefully my kids will appreciate that one day |

This photo is what made me partially get over my issue! I adore it and the rest from the shoot! The sign used to say "Tis the Season" but I made it less Christmas-y with our name!

I love your family photo, Beth. It's beautiful!
I'm super picky about photos of me, but usually, I let people take whatever. I just tell them not to show it to me! Ha. Take it, share it, email it to your husband. Just don't show me. I'm sure I look like a dork. A seven-chinned dork.

I was just noticing yesterday how few pictures I have of me with my grandchildren. I had already decided before reading this blog to make that my motto for this year...give my DH or daughters the camera! |

Thank you for posting this. I am one of those people who takes the pictures and is rarely in them. This posting opened my eyes. I don't have a lot of pictures of me with my children or my DH. Heaven forbid there should be one of just me! eeeekkk. I am going to have to change my thinking!

Beth I love that picture...you look so pretty!
Scrapbooking is what's gotten me in front of the camera more often. But usually I have to ASK someone to take my picture. Everyone loves me taking pictures but nobody really ever thinks to take a picture of ME. I've gotten better about handing it to others and saying "will you take one of me and so-and-so?". Of course they never mind...they just didn't think about it.
