Quilters, do manufacturers ever re-release fabric lines?

In Particular, I am thinking of our very own Jen Allyson's Quite Contrary line for Riley Blake. I bought several yards when it first came out and have made many different projects with it. Still am not tired of the fabric, I just love it! And anyone who sees it loves it, too. I would love to buy more, but the pickings are pretty slim out there. Plus, there were several colorways I didn't buy any of that I would just love to get my hands on now. Has anyone ever successfully petitioned for fabric to be re-released? And if so, how would I go about doing that?

I know that flea market fancy did but I'm not sure what the criteria is for that. I didn't know that Jen designed fabric...cool!!!

She actually has several fabric lines out, based on her scrapbook paper. They are all beautiful, but this one just inspires me to make stuff with it. Anyway, maybe I will try writing directly to the manufacturer and see if they have any scraps left in the warehouse I can buy.

Have you looked at etsy? I've bought fabric from there.

I hadn't thought of Etsy, but just looked. There are a few fabrics available, although only in 1 yard pieces. Not big enough for what I have in mind. I did just email the manufacturer pleading for a re-release. And I bought what I could find from the last online store. I am sure there is some fabric store in some podunk town that has a whole bolt of the stuff, but how do I find them?

Take a photo of the fabric and show us. Maybe a Pea will see it in one of their sewing/quilting shops.

You can also e-mail a photo and name of fabric to different fabric stores throughout the country.

The only ones I can think of in the years that I've been quilting are Flea Market Fancy (which I really don't get the hype behind), Amy Butler Half Moon Dots, and America Jane Pezzy Prints.

Flea Market Fancy had some color changes in the 2nd run and Pezzy prints were released in solid color pezzy's rather in addition to the normal prints.

There usually has to be a MAJOR demand for reprint before a manufacturer will do just that.

Moda Fabrics has re-released "Paris Flea Market" (with a few changes, minor changes) & the "Holly Taylor - Classics".

Several years ago I found scrapbook paper that had the background of the soft yellow "Paris Flea Market" at Archivers (MN). It was very cool to scrap the quilt on the paper of the same fabric line.

I work for Riley Blake and love that line (and Jen for that matter!). We do occasionally rerelease lines, but I am not sure about that one. Let me double check ... Thank you so much for your kind words!

I LOVE the Quite Contrary line too. I bought a bunch from Etsy a while back. The problem with finding it today is that nobody seems to have one of the main prints from the line. They only have some of the coordinating prints. I have been hoarding what I have because I don't want to use it on just anything and I know I can't get anymore. I think the largest piece I have is 1 yard but I probably have about 10-15 yards from the line. I used it a lot on the "My Favorite Bag" that so many of us were making a little over a year ago. I still have a "My Favorite Bag" that is made mostly with this line that I don't want to use because I don't want to wear it out. LOL

Here's a picture of some of the "My Favorite Bags" that I made for Christmas gifts last year that used a lot of Quite Contrary fabric. The interior of the bags has Quite Contrary too.

Eebud, those bags are GORGEOUS!!! And yes, the coordinating prints can be found here and there, but a lot of the main prints are just gone. And that is what I really want.

Paigewh, you should really put a buzz in their ear that people want those fabrics!!! I did send an email directly to the company as well. Who knows if it will help, but maybe we will get lucky.

Thanks for all your help ladies, and commiserating with me. The beautiful things in life always seem to go by so quickly. sigh

I've never had much luck finding fabrics later either. I try to come up with a pattern that will use what I have and use something different for the back/binding. I have some yardage from that line but I admit I'm hoarding it. I don't know what I'll do with it yet. I'm afraid I'll use it for something and then decide I "need" it for something else.

Sigh. I was afraid of this. I love the Indigo Crossing line that recently came out, and I have something in mind for it. Realistically, though, it will be awhile before I get around to that project. It seems ridiculous to buy all of the fabric now, but in a year or two, I porbably won't be able to find what I want.

Those bags are the cutest things I've ever seen! I bought that pattern but haven't actually made the bag (yet). You are an inspiration!

A lot of times Jen ends up with quite a bit of the fabric, so you may be able to buy it directly from her.

Unless, of course, it's the grey medallion that you are sure will be perfect for your curtains, but she won't share. Ask me how I know...

LOL Gennifer - don't forget about the black/cream stripe that I wouldn't send you either

I know that RB does some reprints, but not sure about this line. I do have some of all the patterns, but its not really accessible right now, sorry! But by all means definitely contact RB because I'd love them to reprint it

Not very often. I have some I only bought a small amount of and I could have used it in every project I have done since. This was 5 or 6 yrs ago. As a result it is still intact because I can't bring myself to cut it.

eebud I love my favorite bag in the size you made. Is that your own measurement?

Yes! I first made the bag exactly as the pattern called for it. I love the large size but I thought something in a bit smaller size would be better for gifts, plus I had other uses for a smaller bag. I first cut it down to a smaller purse size. That size was ok but I never made another one. I gave that one to my granddaughter. I then made a mid-size bag and I really liked that size. That is what is in the picture above. After I did this, I saw where "My Favorite Bag" pattern was released in a size very similar to mine. Needless to say, I didn't need that pattern because I already had the measurements. I posted all of the measurements on the long "My Favorite Bag" thread from about 1.5 years ago.

***ETA The pink bag on the far right is almost identical to the one that I made for myself that I don't want to use because I don't want to wear it out. LOL I gave that one as a Christmas gift.

That's exciting to hear! My sister sent me a fat quarter set of Sugar and Spice and I haven't made anything with it so I'll be watching for Twice as Nice to get some yardage to go with it.

When you check Etsy or Ebay, make sure you ask if they have more than one yard. Just because they list it as one yard doesn't necessarily mean that's all they have. They can do a special listing for the amount you need, if it's available. I've found a lot of old lines on Etsy.
