I am leaving for Orlando on Saturday. I am torn about bringing my DSLR with, or my P&S instead.

I haven't been there since I was pregnant with my son (19 years ago!) and this is the first time that we are going together, so I want pictures of course!

Has anyone brought their DSLR with that regretted it? From what I have read online, most of the Disney rides (w/the exception of 2 or 3 I think) are fine to carry it on. At Universal, they have free lockers, so I am thinking it would be ok to keep it in them during the rides?

Any advice would be appreciated!!!

Some people march to a different drummer. I march to a doped-up kazoo player. In fact, I don't even march; I skip - except of course when I have to pee; then I walk swiftly with my knees together.

I take both and carry my DLSR sometimes and other times not. I can't speak for Universal, but I have taken my DSLR on every ride at Disney that I have gone on.

I use a small sling type of bag when travelling with my DSLR

DUH! That is a great idea, why on earth didn't I think of that?? I just ordered one from Amazon (love Prime! Delivery tomorrow for $3.99 lol). Hopefully it will be large enough for my camera body and one lens, plus my wallet and whatever else is needed, but still small enough that it doesn't kill me walking around w/it all day.

Ziplock bags have been added to my 'to be packed' list.

Thank you both!

I brought my DSLR and carried around my neck at all times (at Disney) and no one said a word about it. I was able to have it on me at all times for every ride (I didn't ride any rollercoasters or anything crazy though). And I love the pictures and I know I love them much more than I would have had I only brought my P&S.

I will say, my camera strap needed a washing after the trip because I was sweating so much from the heat and all the walking!

I've never been to Universal, so I have no advice for there.

I been to both Disney & Universal. Disney should be fine. Even rides like Big thunder mountain and Mount Everest have small pouches in your seats to hold you personal belongings. The Disney big rides are not crazy rides. Even if you hold them tight in your hand or between your legs you should be fine......my only concern for disney is the water rides. I never go on them because i don't want to ruin my camera. I am not sure about those ( Splash mountain/magic kingdom & Kali River Rapids/Animal kingdom)...

Universal does have the lockers but its ALWAYS REALLY CROWDED.
You will need a locker for most big rides ( Harry Potter, Men in Black ect).....Honestly Universal is ok for taking pics. I took it the first time there but now i really don't bother. Not a lot big scenery moments unless your huge fan of Harry Potter, Simpsons, Lucille Ball ( Lucy Museum) ......I would recommended a regular pocket size digital camera. heres a link that tells you best photo spots at universal. It might help whether to determine which camera is best to bring.

and FYI~ Thats if your lucky to get good shots. Harry Potter section is the most crowded place. If that is something you wanna do i HIGHLY recommended doing Harry Potter first and because its all the way in the back of the Islands Park. ( don't forget to try the Butter Beer..YUMMY)

We went for the first time last summer and I debated taking it but am so, so glad I did. I took so many great pictures that I wouldn't have been able to get with my point and shoot.

There are the Disney photographers everywhere and we got a few good ones, but several that I didn't like and they were really expensive (IMO).

I wear my point and shoot around my neck the whole time. DH carries his DSLR in our backpack. We're able to take the backpack on every ride at Disney. We had to get a locker for many of the Universal rides.

I took mine several years ago. It's the only camera we had at the time and I don't regret it a bit. We got some beautiful pictures and it was easy taking it around.
