I cannot believe people can be that clueless. When he asked her how much her jewellery was worth and she said "like Rick Ross" just proved how immature she really is.

Wow! What a disrespectful little punk - it appears that she not only gave him the bird but she must have said FU (the whole thing - at least it appears that is what he is asking her if she said).
She deserved what she got!

Bravo for the judge.
I googled His Honor and found these tidbits - from the Miami Herald.
The judge, a former Miami state representative, once duked it out with a fellow representative on the floor of the state House in Tallahassee.
The well-publicized fight occurred during a debate about school vouchers in the 1998 session.
Republican Rodriguez-Chomat fast-walked toward fellow lawmaker Carlos Valdes, also from Miami, and grabbed him by the tie. Then he yanked and pulled.
The scene turned into a free-for-all between the two as they grappled like wrestlers trying to get the upper hand.
House members and security guards rushed to the floor and separated them before blood was spilled
Rodriguez-Chomat's approval ratings among attorneys, according to numbers collected by the Dade Country Bar Association in 2010, were the second-lowest among 99 judges. Forty-six percent of area lawyers polled said they think he is unqualified for the bench.

I saw it a couple days ago. The comments on the video were astonishing. Things like, "All she said was adios, his native language. What a jerk" and "Way to go judge! Put her in prison to get raped" and "All that for a little Xanax?"
Seems like kids of the same maturity level were commenting that day. |

I loved seeing that! I NKOW it isn't a "real" court but I sometimes catch a Judge Judy or something and cringe at how disrespectful some people are. I see people like this so often and can't imagine acting like that. I would be horrified to be arrested! Can you imagine being proud of it? What must lead up to those actions? What the heck makes someone think it is okay to act like that.

When my brother was going thru a divorce my Mom gave him the advice that whether you agree or not to always show respect to the Judge because they are basically God in the courtroom. They don't like their authority questioned. After he and exSIL went to court we asked how it went and he said "Her momma must not have given her the advice about respecting the judge." Didn't help her cause at all. |

Agreed. As well as all the other "celebrities" that get a slap on the wrist for something WE would all spend time in jail for.

I love how she was all laughing and giggling and acting so badly he actually asked her if she was on drugs. She said no.
And when he changed her fine to $10K suddenly she was all serious. Yep IT IS SERIOUS.
I would bet that her parents have had a lot of problems with her and her attitude over the past many years. They are probably at the end of their ropes with her disrespect. I am only assuming this bc look what she thinks she can get away with. |

She was disrespectful to the Court. Numerous times. After he doubled her fine she escalated the situation. And she was there already due to criminal activity. She is no innocent miss.
And it's 30 days, not 3 years. Let her have some time to see where he life is headed and think on her mistakes. If she is smart (doubtful) she will look around and think "I never ever want to come back here again." |

I'm going to assume that the judge tolerated a lot from her during the court proceedings. There are certain expectations of everyone in the court room. She obviously felt that none of those applied to her. Do you think if an attorney behaved that way they wouldn't be held in contempt? |

I was in court once with a client during a prelim for a DV charge from the evening before. The BF or husband was charged with the DV. I was in court with the mother as she needed a ride to court and to also request a TPO from him seeing the kids (the kids had witnessed the incident and he also threatened the kids).
Anyways, the judge is announcing what the guy's bail was going to be and then the mom testified for her TPO and then I testified in support of the TPO regarding the kids.
Anyways, the guys stood with his arms folded and he was showing the mom and I the "bird" the whole time we spoke and after we testified. He was positioned so that the Judge nor the bailiff could see it.
I raised my hand to catch the Judge's eye and the Judge asked what I wanted and I said, "Judge, the defendant has been showing us the bird for the past 2 minutes". The guy instantly removes the "bird", but not before the bailiff caught sight of it and he informed the Judge it was true.
The Judge immediately revoked his ruling about the bail and then raised the amount of bail to the highest amount allowed by statute for that charge. The TPO remained.
You should have seen the guy's face.
And for those that say that the Judge should over look this, go spend a day or a week in court during those prelims and you will soon change your mind about "overlooking" it and for the Judge to have more patience.
The Judges, court personnel, deputies, clerks, etc. all take a tremendous amount of sh&* from people every single day. Sometimes, you just draw the line.
Ms. "Thing" was the one who escalated the situation, not the Judge. She not only flipped him the bird, but she told him to F off as well.

He threw her in jail for contempt of court.
Contempt of court:
Contempt of court is a court order which in the context of a court trial or hearing, declares a person or organization to have disobeyed or been disrespectful of the court's authority. Often referred to simply as "contempt," such as a person "held in contempt," it is the judge's strongest power to impose sanctions for acts which disrupt the court's normal process.
A finding of contempt of court may result from a failure to obey a lawful order of a court, showing disrespect for the judge, disruption of the proceedings through poor behavior

Poor character is not a crime.
I watched the video and am not sure what earned her the doubling of the fine, other than thinking herself more adorable than she ought. What earned her the jail time was giving the judge the finger. She earned that contempt of court all on her own.

no. they chose the condemnation of man as their life's work. these are necessary professions but if they hold morality and the law so highly as to be called into their service then they should set aside their righteous indignation. otherwise, it's a power trip.

You're missing the point. There are RULES in the courtroom. She broke the rules and was punished as the result. Just like she broke the law to land herself in the courtroom in the first place.
I'm guessing Obliolait (or someone she knows) was arrested at some point and they were obviously not at fault. |

I think most people are genuinely shocked over how much power a sitting judge has in his/her court. I once saw a judge give an attorney Hell for speaking to him while sitting. Without even looking up, "Im sure I'm mistaken in thinking that you are attempting to address this beach from a seated position", it was like a springboard launched the attorney into the air to continue his plead.
This has always been the case. The judge has Carte Blanche. That's why it is vital to make sure that the people serving on the bench are worthy of it.
