I think it's creeping up on me. My last period was a week late and now, 10 days later, I seem to be starting again. What other fun can I expect?

Inferno type hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia. That's just a few of the symptoms I am currently experiencing.

No hot flashes for me. Went from being very regular to having periods that were very close together or months apart. Heavy then light until nothing at all.

Hot flashes. I am loving winter. Summer was brutal. I was a sweaty mess. Middle of the night hot flashes horrible when the temps were warm to begin with. Now that it is cold at night, I am not woken up with sweats, though since I have about half the blankets DH does, I am often marginally cold.

I'll take it!

I still have my Mirena so haven't had periods in years but am now getting a little breakthrough bleeding.

Scatterbrain - often if I stop and think I can remember whatever it is, but my first thought is often "What?" when my DH bring up something we've already talked about.

Mild hot flushes.

Hair thinning - my eyelashes are less luscious than they've always been and my pubic hair if thinning too I must admit that wasn't something I was expecting

Oh the joys!!!

Man, what fun, right?

I have the dry skin (frequently have scabs from scratching, nice), the need to sleep in very cold rooms, and here's one I didn't see mentioned: periodic heart palpitations. Also, my bladder has become high maintenance. Can't drink OJ anymore because it makes me have to pee constantly.

And the gushers.

Hate it! Ah well. At least I'm not alone.

I didn't get much in the way of hot flashes - the worst thing for me was the mood swings. It was just like being a teenager again - which made sense when my doctor pointed out that at both times, hormone levels were changing a lot.

INSOMNIA!

I'm finally doing much better with that and finally getting sound sleep at night. It had a tremendous impact on my daily living and trying to work full time with lack of sleep.

I definitely recommend speaking to your OB/GYN about any of these symptoms, there is options available.

Check your numbers next time you go to OB/GYN - the first time I was tested I was already in the high 30's (normal child bearing numbers are in the single digits). I thought I might be pre-menopausal...but went right into menopause in my mid 30's.

Good golly, I can hardly wait. I'm already scatterbrained, so I may get worse? Yikes. I think I may start using a liner 24/7 in case of sudden starts. I've had itchy legs at night for a few years-I wonder if that was a sign all along? I mainly only get them in the winter though. So maybe it's just dry air. It's a good thing we have central air. I remember being so hot when I was pregnant but I'm sure this is worse.

My cycles are more regular than ever! At least there are no surprises on that front but I should be done by now!!

I don't really get hot flashes, but occasional night sweats. Not too severe. Itchy skin? Yes!! Didn't realise it was related. Also heart palpitations and insomnia. I don't have to get up for work in the morning so if I've had a bad night I'll stay in that damn bed until I fall back asleep.

Day one of my period is brutal with cramps, nausea, stomach and intestinal pain and headaches. That day is today, my friends. Glad I've got nothing to do today.

My main peri-menopausal symptom was severe cramping ... I also had way more frequent periods and they were heavier than any other time in my life ... it was the worst

I chose to have a hysterectomy since I'm done having babies

Crap after looking at the list I see a lot of things that have been bugging me could all be peri-menopause - I am not going crazy LOL. I don't have hot flashes but my periods are worse but that started after giving birth so for the last nine years - I am so ready for them to be done but hate the idea of surgery. So many of those symptoms I can say I have had. I think I had some flushing and hot flashes last summer but now that the house is cold I haven't had any - I am no longer soaked or rarely. I don't have them during the day like I remember my grandmother having. I feel like my PMS is much worse and a few years ago I had a lot of anxiety and the huge feelings of dread all the time - thank goodness those are better.

I am glad someone posted the link. I saw it years ago but had forgotten about it and most of the symptoms. Interesting. Who would have thought that Aching, sore joints, muscles and tendons could have anything to do with this. I have had some of the strangest pains in the weirdest areas they will bug me for a week and then go away and then maybe a month or so come back. The memory thing is really annoying to - I hate that my memory sucks but DH noticed that it seemed to go with the placenta and I think he is right.

The last time I thought I might be peri-menopausal I was pregnant with my youngest dd!! I knew something hormonal was going on. Pregnancy didn't cross my mind because I took fertility medications with my first three pregnancies. That was over 5 years ago.

After reading through the list it could explain some of the symptoms I've been experiencing lately. Some of my symptoms might be the after effects from my hysterectomy I had in November. I think the next time I have my labs done for my thyroid I'll have them test to see if I am peri-menopausal. I'm curious now.

Thanks for sharing the list.

I am 45 and have had hot flashes for years so nothing new to report in that area. I actually visited my Dr in my 20s before I had kids worrying I was going through early menopause.

I have been noticing memory problems (I will really have to concentrate to think what it was DH and I were JUST talking about or I know what word I want to say in a conversation and can even give you an elaborate definition but can't pull the word out of my brain) and in the last 2 weeks I have had unexplained heart racing.

Also, I go to the gym most lunch hours to run - years ago I often commented to DH that I could soak my shirt with sweat and there would be no noticeable odor but now, quite frankly, I stink! Maybe this is the explanation.

Have you been reading my mind!? I was wanting to come here today to ask this same question. Thank you

My main concern right now is irregular periods. For the last year they have been maybe once every 4 weeks to every 6. This month I have had it TWICE! Never had that before. and the second time around it lasted like 8-9 days. (Im usually a 4-5 day gal)

Im 47 and wanting to know: Tell me when the periods will stop.

For me, my periods got closer together before they got further apart. And then they became irregular. I had never had much issue with cramping but began having some pretty strong cramping with my periods. When my periods got irregular, my flow also got more unpredictable. I might have nothing more then spotting and then a few hours later, I would soak a pad in an hour, and then a few hours later I would be back to spotting.

I've had pretty bad hot flashes and night sweats and the mental fog.

But, on the positive side... my sexual response has improved and my O's are more intense.

So unfair that women go through this and men don't. That's why I wanted boys - life is so much easier for them in terms of hormonal changes. They go through it too, but it's not nearly this bad. Except for the moodiness! I think male hormones make them a lot more moody than women are.

I started out hating the hot flashes & then realized the mood swings were worse than the hot flashes. I can go from zero to BITCH in about 3 seconds. And then later realize what I've done & feel like crap. I think I've gotten is more under control but there are times when it happens & I don't even realize it. When it happens people just get on my last frickin' nerve & I just want to slap them. Irrationally so.

Sorry about the multiple posts. I couldn't get my original post to show up & now I can't get the extras to delete!! Is this a test of my patience? Cos DON'T THEY KNOW I'M MENOPAUSAL???????

By the way, I have had almost all of the 35 symptoms since the doc confirmed menopause. What's everyone's take on HRT?

Seven years of peri-menopause brought with it:

Hot flashes

Memory impairment

Crazy periods. I had some that lasted for weeks, and would get another one 2 weeks later. Miserable.

Mood swings to the Nth degree. Wacky periods only exacerbated the problem because it kept me so of kilter.

Hair loss/thinning. I now have to pencil in my eyebrows.

Dry skin and muscle cramps. Horrid muscle cramps.

I'm now 2 years into full menopause and the only difference is I don't have the whack-a-do periods.

I think that is the one thing I am most happy to not have since my hys. The last 5 years from age 45-50 the cramping and clots were so bad that some days I would have to spend the entire day on the sofa with a heating pad. Even though it was going on for a few years the clots were gross and sometimes scary with their size.

Also going through a tampon under an hour was awful. At work I was always running to the bathroom to check myself and at night I would wear a tampon and a pad and still soak through and the pad would have huge clots .

I could have written that, word for word! I'm 52 and I've been thru the same thing. I also had a hysterectomy a year ago (my ovaries were left in), and I have no idea if I've even begun menopause yet. They checked me a year ago and said my #s didn't indicate that I was near menopause yet. I'm wondering when it'll happen and be overwith!! I'm still getting hot flashes, increased headaches, insomnia (even with ambien and a backup of lorazapam!!), etc. At least the "crime scene" bleeding is gone.

I'm going through this now and it sucks! I have:

Severe memory loss/impairment/confusion.

Long, painful, messy cycles (lots of clots), sometimes twice a month.

Major hair loss.

Major mood swings. I used to have PMS, but now it's before and during the cycle.

Dry skin.

I really hope I don't get anymore symptoms and I can't wait for my cycles to end. I'll be 44 next month and am done having babies.

Overall, I would suggest getting your (general your) iron checked.
With the increased blood loss, anemia is a real possibility.
A symptom of anemia is heart palps.
And anemia sucks.

A TSH/Free T4 would be a good idea as well.
