I don't and I sometimes think about whether or not I should. I typically wing our easier meals and the either follow a cookbook or look up a bunch of recipes on various websites and then combine them in a way I think my family would like best.

It seems like it would be a time-saver to have a central place for recipes instead of always looking them up.

I usually wing it but I do have a couple notebooks that I jot recipes down... or copy recipes from the internet/library books/recipes cut out of magazines/etc.

I have a binder system. I have plastic sleeves for recipes I've either copied out of cookbooks or printed from the internet. The ones in sleeves are ones we've tried and like. Then I have folders for recipes I want to try.

It works well for me!

I have this wooden stand that holds 6x6 page protectors, all of my frequently used recipes hang in them.
I used to belong to quite a few 6x6 recipe swaps, so I made pages for my own use and also made books for family members at the same time.

My husband and I use ours all the time, we love it. I do need to make and add quite a few recipes though. I enjoy doing it and only make pages for tried and true keepers.

I have a bunch of cookbooks, but what I use the most is my 3 ring binder that is full of recipes I printed from allrecipes.com , cooks.com...etc.

I've had a recipe system for years that includes print-outs and handwritten recipes. I am gradually moving that to the Paprika app on my iPad & iPhone. For whatever reason, it makes it so much easier for me to meal plan. Super quick and the grocery list is all done too.

I also have traditional cookbooks.

Mine is very old school. I have an old library card catalog I use as a recipe box. I use dividers, cake, beverage, beef, etc. and index cards. I've used this forever, and while I could change it to a more up to date, maybe computerized, system, it works for me. I know in the cake section the old blue clipped together cards are the spice cupcakes and peanut butter frosting. The coffee stained edge is the Irish Soda Bread recipe.

I've always had a big recipe box that holds 3x5 cards. When I find a recipe I like and plan to use again, I write it on a card and file it in the box. I've done this for as long as I can remember. About 5 years ago or so my youngest DD typed them all up and uploaded them to lulu.com and they made them into a spiral bound cookbook. I use that almost every time I cook and I've gifted copies to many people in the last 5 years.
I still have the box though and still add to it. I like looking at the old handwritten stained recipe cards

I made my own from recipes my family has really liked, and a few recipes that my grandmothers passed down that I don't want to get 'lost'.

Most of the meals I make I know by heart and don't follow a recipe, though.

I make a word doc for the recipe, print it, and put it in a 3 ring binder.

I have divided the binder into several categories and have page protectors that I keep the recipes in.

I use it a lot when I meal plan. I can flip through and see what our 'choices' are and go from there!

I do have a few cookbooks as well. Once I try a meal from one and we like it I'll print out the recipe and add it to the binder.
I use online sources as well.

I have several cookbooks and years ago started a binder with recipes I found in magazines. I now use pinterest and allrecipes a lot. I've thought about finding a way to keep hard copies of the recipes but haven't done so yet. I usually just use my phone to view the recipe when cooking but sometimes that is a pain.

I have ours in Dropbox so that our boys have access to it also. It's great to be able to pull up a recipe while I'm out shopping. I have all the recipes in an index at the beginning of the file so that I can just click on a recipe in the index and it takes me to the recipe details. I have been compiling it for years with favorite recipes from family, friends, other cookbooks, the internet, etc. If we try a new recipe a family discussion is had as to whether it goes "in the book" or not. I have a hard copy in the kitchen, but it's never completely up-to-date because we are adding to it on a regular basis. Because it is so big, we find the index to be a necessity.

Well, the entire cabinet over my microwave is full of recipe books. Then there's the shelf in my sitting room/library that's got the rest of the recipe books. Those are the ones that I don't use as much. One of my recipe books is a binder with sheet protectors for recipes I've printed out and pulled out of magazines. When I'm doing my menu planning I'll grab a book I haven't looked through in a while and choose some from that.

Then there's the recipes in my box, but those are mostly for breads and deserts. Not a lot of mains in that.

Then there's the ones that I have memorized or the times I just throw together a pan sauce from what I have on hand . . .

what was the question again?

My mother gave all of us handwritten recipe cards with all her favorites...and classics. It's a treasure. It's usually the one I get into.

Sincerely though if I try a recipe from a book I end up writing it on a card and through it in a recipe box.

This is what I do. I am trying to go through my collection of cookbooks, pull out ones I might use and then let them go. I have about 30! With the internet and the ability to look up and have hundreds of choices I don't really feel the need to have all the actual books.

I have a recipe binder that I bought at Hallmark. It holds 4x6 recipe cards, which I use for the recipes I use. I do a lot of just throwing things together kind of cooking, but I do use recipes for some things, too. My binder is perfect for storing those recipes.

I have a folder of word docs saved on my lap top. I've saved them and transferred onto 2 or 3 computers over the years as we've got new ones. If I try a recipe online or from pinterest and like it, I just copy and paste the whole thing onto a new word doc and save it. Most of the family members that I share recipes with send them via email or facebook, so it's easy to do the same with family recipes, too. I think I started the file with a recipe for my grandma's chicken salad about 10 years ago. Some day I might print them and make a binder or something. Which reminds me, I need to add a few I've made in the past few months.

I still have most of the first recipe cards I typed up when I was 14. I've been baking cakes and cookies since I was 10. I had a recipe box then started typing them up on the computer when I got my first PC computer in 1988, I actually had another computer with a different operating system before that!

Anyway, those were put in page protectors in a 3 ring binder and added and added to. I've also printed them directly from Allrecipes.com and put in the book.

I'm now putting my most used recipes in one similar to the red one shown below BUT not finished yet. I'm putting my most used recipes in it. I love it because it stands up and takes very little room! I have TOO many recipes to put ALL in this little book. I made the red one for someone to add her own family recipes. Here is the cover and one of the pages.

Here is one of the pages in the original recipe book with the wood stand. I decided later to go ahead and finish it and then make a bigger version!

I like using allrecipes and using up ingredients I need to use. I am not good at winging it. I hate cooking.

I have lots more baking recipes saved that I go back to.

The few recipes I like are in 3 ring binders in plastic sleeves. I have clipboards hanging on the wall I clip them to when baking or cooking.

That is my recipe binder. It is super fancy. I have it divided into sections like breakfast, bread, appetizers, main dishes, etc.

I tend to get most of my recipes online so I email them to myself to have a backup always available and then I print it when I want to try it. I make it once and if it is a hit as written, it is deemed "hole-worthy" and gets holes punched and a place in the proper section. If it sucked, it goes into the bin. If it was ok and I think I can make it great, I make notes on the recipe and file it in the front pocket of the binder, no holes, for keeping track of recipes I want to tweak. Eventually we decide if it is hole worthy or not.

It's low tech but it works great.

I'm not usually an organised person, but strangely I am almost anally organised with my recipes.

I have an Excel spreadsheet that lists all my favorite recipes sorted by category (chicken, lamb, pasta etc). The spreadsheet shows the recipe name, what cookbook or magazine it's in and the page number, and list of ingredients. I have folders to keep loose recipes in, such as ones I have printed or photocopied. One folder for beef and lamb, one for chicken, one for cakes and slices, one for soups and starters etc etc.

Then at the start of the month I will make up a monthly menu plan from my list. Not saying that I actually stick to it totally, but at least it is a start.

I've got a binder with plastic sleeves, I call it my "food bible". It's mostly a collection of baking recipes, since they follow formulas with precise measurements and ingredients. But also I keep copies of my favorite cooking recipes, with notes on how I have modified them or substitutions that have worked well in the past. Most of the time when I cook, I just wing it. But there are some dishes that come out best if I actually follow the recipe. I print out from online, photocopy from a cookbook, tear out magazine pages before tossing the magazine, and hand write on notebook paper. Whatever it takes to get the recipe into the book.

If it's a winner, it goes into the book.

Over the last 2 years when I make a new recipe I like, I copy and paste it into a word document, complete with photos and save as a PDF. I keep a copy on my computer and put the PDF on my iPad, that way I can cook with it in the kitchen.
Because it's on the iPad, it gets backed up to the cloud, so even though it wouldn't be tragic if I lost them, it's nice knowing there is a backup.

I have three cute 3-ring binders with only tried and true recipes. I print them with pictures (sometimes my pics) and make my changes/notes - I almost always change them up. I will write "excellent", "good", "DD's fav"; "I love, DH hates", etc. on the top. Or make suggestions for next time. They are categorized and I love to be able to grab a binder and flip through "pork" to see what I feel like making. Gets me out of a rut sometimes. Plus, the kids like to look through it when they come over to see what's "new". My notes are very helpful to them, too. Most of them are on my Tried & True Pinterest Board, but drives me nuts if I can't remember a change that I made or needed to make the next time I make something.

I collect cookbooks and use almost all of them. I have a huge pantry and my top shelf is completely covered with cookbooks. My sisters gave me some from their churches;I have Taste of Home books for 10 years; I have several from home economic teachers from California; I have Farm Journal cookbooks; plus several more that I have picked up. I get a lot off the internet also (all recipes and pinterest). I have my binder with my tried and true recipes plus a couple of recipe boxes. I love to cook down home and comfort foods. Some day I need to go through my cookbooks and get rid of a few but I think I have almost 100 cookbooks right now.

I do something similiar. I have 4 binders 8 1/2 x11 with page protectors, I have some smaller page protectors that fit index cards and some 4x6 recipe cards that my mom has handwritten and other family recipes..
Over my christmas vacation - i got rid of 90% of my cookbooks..tore out recipes I wanted to keep and everything goes into one of my four binders...I do this for any new recipe I find and like whether its pinterest, a magazine or online site...

Then I went through all the binders and made a master list or index of sorts of all our favorite recipes, side dishes and desserts. Then below that list I just made some sample meal ideas ( a lot from the 2peas menu planning threads)ie:

lasagana,salad, garlic bread
oven baked chicken, sweet potatos, roasted cauliflower
roast, mashed potatos, green beans
tacos, rice & beans
bbq pork, cheesy quiona, broccoli
BLTs, raw veggies,deviled eggs

This list helps a ton when I need to do quick meal planning for the week, I just take a glance & pick some favorites. When I have more time, I jot down suggestions or skim through the binders for inspiration.
