I wear my diamonique stud earrings 24/7, sleep, shower, however lost the backs before I started doing this and with every back I replace it with it turns the back of my earlobe blue. It easily washes off, doesn't irritate my skin or anything, but would like to buy some quality backs. I went to Claire's but the package of earring backs didn't have anything written on it saying it was any special material like some of their other earrings did. I went online to overstock and some of the reviews say the backs don't work for all their earrings, like the hole is too big or too small, I didn't even know that was possible.

I don't even know if I should get silver or gold or what? And I'm seeing different language for the gold (filled or 24carat). I was wondering if you had a reputable site you recommend?

Gold filled is a gold coating filled with base metal (ie, nickel or something with a coating of gold).

24karat would be 24 karat gold, but that's pure gold and is generally considered too soft for jewelry.

Personally, I would shop a jewelry making store. For instance, Artbeads. Various sizes. Buy by the piece. (Check their listing because I think they sell them per back, not per pair.)

Michael's sells plastic earring backings. I bought mine there. Maybe you could try that. My ears are super sensitive and I use them without problems.
Plastic Earring Backs mine looks like the plain ones

Thanks for the links! Those sites ask me what size I want, what is the universal size? Do you recommend silver or gold? Gold filled or 14carat gold?

i use the soft clear plastic ones too, mine are shaped like little flowers. i vastly prefer them over the metal ones because they grip tighter and don't hurt, plus you don't see an ear full of metal from the backside if i'm wearing my hair up (i have multiple peircings in each ear).

I bought the 14k because of my metal allergy... I'm not sure of the universal size... If you can wear silver, look at micheals....I've bought some sterling silver backs there for my nieces and they've had no problem... Plus you can use their weekly coupon
