Are you named after anyone?

And to answer my own question, I'm not. My great grandmother loved the name Heidi and my mom asked her to name me since I was the last child she was going to have. She ended up having another though, my little brother, Levi.

Katrina, I chose it as an angsty teenager, which is a big part of the answer. LOL I was 16, the internet was still a brave new world that was pretty much just AOL and bulletin boards. I participated in a chatroom on AOL whose sole purpose was for being snarky and sarcastic. That's what the chatroom was about. LOL So I picked the name based on the fact that I was basically a sweet "good girl," but was going through my rebellious phase at the time (that lasted the rest of my life who knew).

In college, I found a beautiful painting by Abbott Handerson Thayer, Stevenson Memorial, and decided she was a good representation of the name, and it convinced me to keep it. Stevenson Memorial

Mine was stamping/card making.

Enjoy--Yes, it is!!!

I'm adopted, and my adoptive family has no musical anything going on. It's just not important or done or anything. But I had some talent show up in preschool and kindergarten, so my mom pursued it and put me in a lot of lessons. My senior year in high school, every class but 2 were music classes in my schedule. My undergrad was a k-12 band degree. I didn't really want to teach band, but I loved my band teacher, so I got that. However, along the way through that degree, I discovered a passion for kids with special needs, and saw a million ways I could use music to reach them. I took it to my advisor, thrilled at this amazing discovery I had made... She looked at me like I was a moron and said, "yes, it's called music therapy and it's been around since World War II."

Ah.

Little did I know, her college roommate had been a music therapy major, and went on to become the FOREMOST music therapy and special education expert in the country! (and really the world) LOL

Anyway, it wasn't offered at MU, but it was at UMKC and KU. So I finished up, got a job teaching elementary music (which I loved) in KC, and eventually went to KU for the music therapy degree. It is absolutely the perfect fit for me for a career. I currently work at a K-12 school for kids with severe cognitive, physical, developmental, and emotional/behavioral disabilities and fill out my schedule by teaching a couple hours of middle school band. Full circle.

Oooh, Heidi, I love your name. Good thing we've already had Beanette, I would have wanted to add that to the list.

My first name is my Mom's middle name (Ann). Also my Dad's name is Andy, so I'm kind of named after both my parents. Then my middle name is my maternal grandmother's middle name (Marie). I go by Ann Marie.

My cousins on that side of the family either have Ann or Marie as their middle names, as well. The meaning of Ann is Graceful, so Beanette's middle name is Grace, as our own nod to the tradition.

My daughter started this year pursuing a music therapy degree. I was so excited for her. She bailed after 8 weeks. Now is going for Social Work instead. Her goal is to work with gay/lesbian/transgender teenagers.

What population do you work with?

Ooops. See you already answered that.

What's your favorite animal? TV show? Movie?

That's a lovely painting, and I like the story, too.

Mine started as a joke between my husband and I before we were married. I had told him how much I hated my last (maiden) name, because I'd been teased about it my whole life. (It's really awful... Think body parts. Even my teachers couldn't help themselves ) He tried to commiserate by sharing that he, too, had grief over his last name. Apparently to the kids in his elementary school, his last name sounded like Broccoli.

I was like That's it? No problem! I can be OK as Katrina Broccoli.

Later I shortened it to Kate. I don't go by Kate in real life, but it works online.

What's your favorite type of music? What type works best with your students? (Or maybe there isn't one... )

eta: oops, didn't realize Sparki already asked the first half of my question.

What's your favorite type of dessert? Mine is cookies, but of them I can't choose just one favorite.

Do you know how to keep a cat from eating dog food?

I have no idea, but my dog picks his kibble up and eats it across the room, while he's gone the cat steps in at his dish to pick up where he left off.

Hope you hit your post goal soon.
