The Peaple have good ideas and know places to shop for interesting clothes. Help me help my friend, please!

She is getting married -- first time for her -- she is a (ahem) mature bride (in the middle of her 6th decade).
June wedding ON a golf course (ie: HOT and outside!) -- the feel will be more celebration than wedding. The party will be in the clubhouse.
Long or short -- hasn't been decided; -- probably not "white" but not black either; she would like something to cover upper arms; she is tall and with a "normal" body type; she wants to keep the dress less than $200.00.

I've been looking at Nordstrom's on-line; she went to a personal shopper in the Nordstrom's store and was worried about the prices.

I'd love to see your ideas!

I considered myself a mature bride at 45, lol! It was my second as well, so I didn't want an off the shoulder or meringue type dress. I chose a Jessica McClintock dress- drop waisted 20's style dress, to the ankles in cream. It had an over material with crystals on it- with little cap sleeves made of the same material with the same crystals. I was really comfortable with it on a hot day and felt 'appropriate' lol.

ETA I just looked at the Jessica McClintock site out of interest- there is so little choice there now, I really don't think there is anything suitable for what you require

How formal?

I'm thinking I'd want to wear silk (and silk can be formal or more casual) but I couldn't get much further without knowing if it's a formal event.

I'd start with finding a color that makes me look my best. She can have a dressmaker sew her dress which would give her the exact dress she'd like to have.

I would think silk would be really hot in summer, and it really wrinkles in hot. I'd go more light lacey material? tulle? or cotton and netting?

Thanks, Jen! I hadn't "remembered" Macy's. The dresses you referred me to are beautiful, but generally, I think she'd prefer a longer sleeve. It will be hot ... well, June in Missouri, so certainly more than warm! -- but wants her upper arm covered. The cap style sleeve just isn't enough coverage.

As for silk?? The dress style is more relevant than the fabric, I
think.

Fomality -- not "formal". But summer celebration. She said she wants casual for "dress code", but she will be wearing something a bit more upscale than a cotton sundress.

No problem! I totally understand wanting to cover the arms.

Many similar ones in longer sleeves.

Lace 3/4 sleeve

Cap sleeve - but longer! I just fell in love with the flutter

Vintage lace cuff

Here's an option with a jacket, so if she felt comfortable / got too hot at the reception she could take the jacket off.

Thanks, KAS! I saw similar styles on Macy's as well. I've sent several of these ideas to my friend!

My mom bought a dress for my brother's wedding that was $150. It was pale pink, long, with a little jacket over it.

She also got married 2 years ago and is in her 60s but... she wore a royal purple dress. That is her favorite color. She that might not help you.

Lots of beautiful ideas posted here! But WOW, Jen! You could be a personal shopper - those are some stunning choices you found. Those Hollywood Stylist divas better watch out!

At Nordstrom - have her be honest about budget with personal shopper! and many times alterations are included. I worked there for years and got to substitutes in special occasion (that was the most fun ever). They have a lot of price ranges.

6th decade and first wedding...there is hope for me yet!

My aunt was married in a similar situation tho it was a 2nd marriage after first spouses were deceased. But it was almost same type of formality and she found something at either Macy's or JcPenny, can't remember which. If she shops now with spring proms, wedding season she should def be able to find something in that price range. I think ivory or platinum would be nice. Or maybe a color to accent eye color.

Lots of choices! Just keep looking.

For the love, no strapless!
Very few brides can actually pull this off.
Bare, flabby arms? Back fat? Not a nice look.

Even if she's trim and gorgeous in her 60s, I think being covered up is much classier and she'll be more comfortable.

Congrats to her---finding true love again is a blessing.
