Game of THRONES. And yes, it is if you like fantasy like Lord of the Rings.

Crack, basically .

I tried reading the first book, but couldn't get into it. I watched the series pilot and was hooked. It is set in a fictional, medieval-type world. It has a huge cast of characters, and amazing settings. It's also full of blood, treachery, and sex, your basic HBO fare. I really like it though.

I also couldn't get through the first book but I'm addicted to this series.
My faves are Tyrion Lannister (who gets all the best lines) and the strong women characters.

Yeah, Peter Dinklage is great. I think almost all the actors are top-notch as well, especially the younger ones. My favorite character is Brienne of Tarth. Talk about a strong woman .

I love Tyrions character.

Don't start watching it if you can't take unexpected deaths though.

I was turned off of this series (tv and book) by the fantasy label. I tried it when I had absolutely nothing to watch, and got hooked -- there are some limited fantasy elements, but it is more Dark Ages-y battle/kingdom-ruling stuff. I have watched all of the episodes and read all of the books, and have really enjoyed both.

I haven't seen the series, but the first book was miserable and I barely finished it.

I love fantasy, have read so many great authors and this just did nothing for me.

But I have heard the show is fantastic.

Lots and lots of violence. Lots and lots of graphic sex. Expect both in the books and the TV series. I read the first 3 books, but couldn't stomach the TV series.

My Dad loves the books and so I get the TV series for him.
I watched a few minutes here and there to make sure the discs will work properly in his DVD player...and OMG that show is so violent.
Those few minutes were enough to put me off already but then I was reading a thread here talking about killing puppies and babies, that tipped me right over the edge into "will never ever watch this show".

It's a great show and I don't usually like fantasy shows.
