|Posted: 4/2/2013 9:50:59 PM|Going to Disney for a week....flying if that matters in your opinion
I am debating this one.....I have a Kindle so I can use that for checking email, Facebook etc. Trying to decide if I want to take my laptop to download pics etc. Wondering if it is more of a hassle than it is worth....

I only take my kindle so I can watch movies on the plane. I don't want work hugging me so laptop stays at home. I bring my mobile phone too.

I only take the laptop so I can check email.
I don't know why you'd need to upload photos mid vacation. Just buy an extra memory card.

No, I would only bring my iPad. My camera can hold more than 100 photos-- I can't imagine needing more than that.

We used to take the netbook but since we both have smartphones now, we don't take anything. If we need to google up directions or restaurants or something, we just use the phone.

I absolutely do. Not only for clearing photos cards, but also for entertainment and staying in touch with people. My computer is not a company computer, so the only work I do is my freelance. It's just not an option to not take it. The laptop and other electronics are required in my daily life, including vacations. Smartphones are used the majority of the time, but they just don't cut it for certain things in my eyes. Doesn't mean I am tied to it on vacation, but it's definitely needed and used at times during the holiday.

We've taken a laptop and to be honest it was a pain to worry about it, not to mention lugging the case around with the rest of our carry-on luggage (this was back when laptops were heavy). It didn't fit in the safe so we had to just put it in a drawer under clothes. The next time we took a 10" net book it didn't fit in the safe either but we only paid $100 for it and it was easy to carry.
Our last few trips we've taken my Kindle Fire and it was perfect.
ETA: Have a great time at Disney!
|Posted: 4/2/2013 10:00:48 PM|I have plenty of memory cards so I don't need to download them.....just I am photo obsessed and I like to see them sooner than later I know I can see them on the camera but, it isn't the same!
I am leaning towards not taking it because I am afraid I will "remote in" for work.....and really want and need a vacation!

I have to take my laptop with me because my job (VP- HR in a small company) necessitates that I already be available. I even took it with me on my mission trip to Japan last summer!

I don't. I take my ipad which has 3G so I can watch movies and read. As far as downloading pics, I take a few large memory cards so that I have plenty of space for pics without needing to download.
DH does take his laptop because he needs to be in touch with work and have access to a few different things. It's just a fact of life for us that, even on vacation, he will be checking in and working a bit.

Nope. I bring my iPad.
My iPhone pics stream onto my iPad, so they download at the end of the day.
I also have my real camera and I just let the pics sit on the card til I return home. It holds about 1,000 shots.

It depends, but if we do, it's only used for uploading photos from our SD cards.

100 photos isn't nearly enough!

Yes, I do but I take a gazillion photos and I want them off the camera and onto the computer. If I have decent wifi I want them uploaded to my paid site (smugmug)

I used to, but now I take an iPad. Less tempting to do work, but still has all the entertainment functions I would want. Plus that's how I do all my reading these days.

I take my Ipad or Kindle on vacation and have never missed my laptop. I feel like it is a hassle and worry to travel with my laptop if it's not for work. I would by a couple extra Sd cards if I was worried about having enough storage for pictures. Have fun at Disney!!! I'm so jealous!

I bring my ipad on vacation. My husband brought his laptop on our last vacation but then he discovered my ipad and I ended up having to share it with him. He didn't crack open his laptop at all.
I also have an iPhone 4S and it was the best gps I have ever used. Siri helped us navigate all over Hawaii.

I always take my laptop on vacation. I love to download my photos every night and look through them. Yes I have a huge memory card, but I still love to look at them on the computer each night. Sometime I might do a bit of digi scrapping (P365 mainly).
When we vacation we only ever go to the beach 1 - 1.5 hours away, staying at one or the other beach house that we have access to. I'm not sure whether I would take it if I was going to Disney. I guess I probably would, it would be safe enough in the hotel room.
ETA: DD just flew to Germany on exchange last Friday, all the kids took their laptops. They were allowed to take the laptop plus carry on luggage on the plane with them.

My camera's memory card holds over 4000 photos, which is more than enough for a week.

I typically do, even for weekend jaunts, but I'm always driving, so it's not a big issue to throw it in the car. If I were flying out somewhere, and I didn't need to worry about anything work related, I might just bring my Kindle and be done with it. (Plus my Smartphone.)

I used to always..mostly to upload photos at the end of the night so I can see them and I was worried about something happening to the card.
Now we bring our kindle fires and our smartphones and leave the laptop at home. I have left it home for our last 3 vacations and it has worked out well. it was more of a hassle esp when flying.
I can 't imagine only taking 100 photos LOL not even on a weekend trip ..I am embarrassed to say how many i take LOL
have fun in disney!

I took my laptop to DW to download pics. I took hundreds of pictures every day and I was too worried to leave them all on the memory card. Have fun!

My dh needs his laptop with him all the time for work so he's always got his when we travel. If I 'need' to get online for anything I just use his.
If that weren't the case I think we'd probably take 1 with us.

|Posted: 4/3/2013 7:08:36 AM|Yes, we do....at least when we go to the beach. I probably would not have thought to take it to Disney until I saw the idea of uploading pics to it in case anything happened to the memory card. I never thought of that.
So now maybe I would.

I'm taking my iPad to Europe this summer. It's great to use at night to keep in touch with family or to look up places you want to visit the next day.
I don't bring it camping though. No electronics at all.

|Posted: 4/3/2013 7:50:09 AM|I don't have an iPhone or an iPad or even a smartphone...so I take my laptop. My mom isn't very techy either, so we use the Yahoo instant messanger to "chat" when I'm on vacation out of state - it's usually just a couple of friends and I that go and she still worries about us. I can check in at night and she knows everything is ok. Saves on cellphone costs.
And I'm another one that takes pictures like crazy...I usually end up with about 150 per day, so I like to upload them and go thru them to delete the ones I won't keep. It's easier to do it by day or every other day instead of going thru 1000+ after vacation!

I used to, but when we go to Disney in two weeks I'm looking forward to only taking my iphone & ipad mini. My laptop is big & heavy and I won't miss it.
Worst was last fall when I went on a week long work trip and I ended up taking my work laptop and my personal laptop because I couldn't skype with the family from my work laptop. Man my carry on bag was heavy!
