Is anyone here a volunteer for the American Red Cross for disasters. Either locally or nationwide? I'm contemplating doing this, but would have to go about 1 1/2 hours each way for the trainings, besides all of the paperwork. I don't personally know anyone who does this.

I'd be interested in helping in a logistical/organizational/financial area such as securing storage, inventory, data or people management. If you, or anyone you know, does this, I would be very interested in anything you could share or things I should consider before continuing on.

Thanks for your input!

There is a woman who posts as "middle aged drama queen" on the Cruise Critic boards, especially on the Royal Caribbean Lines forum -- she is a Red Cross volunteer -- and includes a blog address, or talks about her blog, on many of her posts. I rather suspect she would be very inclined to talk about volunteers as she was also recently on a TV news broadcast talking about the fires, or flood, or some other current disaster -- but I can't think of her name.
She would be very easy to find following the above clues

I have seen her as I frequent the CC boards and just read her blog. I will try to contact her also. She's a hoot!

I hope you find a Pea to talk with about doing this. I was a Red Cross Volunteer at one time, associated with a VA Hospital, but not trained for disaster work. I would have loved to be a part of a disaster team but had a young DD at the time. Now I'm too old.
