There's things that if you do watch them, you'll see pop up later, but IMHO, Doctor Who is still enjoyable even if you don't know the whole back story of everything that happens.

I love the 9th doctor. He's my favorite. I'm in a minority on that, but you see the relationship develop between Rose, and 9 and 10 and that's really important.

I guess I'll try to go back and watch some of them. I think he just reminds me of Robert Irvine from Restaurant Impossible, and that guy annoys me.

I didn't watch that doctor, but my DD did. She references those episodes often. I missed quite a bit!

Yes, go back and watch them! I'll admit, some of them were a little slow, but towards the end of the season it really seemed to pick up as things with rose really developed.

Goodness, you will miss so very much. Just missing the relationship between the Doctor and Rose would almost be a crime. And the Weeping Angels, and Captain Jack, and and the first time he meets River Song and...the list just goes on. Please don't skip him.

It's only one season. And it would be a crime to miss out on the Captain Jack episodes. And he's in a few. I think like all Doctors, the actors get better the longer they play them.

While Dr. 9 isn't my favorite and Rose annoys the heck out of me, the story lines started in that series lead directly into Dr. 10 (le siiiggh), keep popping up during Dr.10 and help explain things from the end of Dr.10's run.

I still miss Donna Noble. She's the best companion so far.

I went back and watched another Nine episode tonight. I haven't changed my opinion of him, but I'll suffer through since it's only one season. I did watch another one with Ten right after, though. I look at it like I looked at the Hunger Games books. I read the third only because I read the first two, but really didn't like it. I just wanted to make sure I finished the series. I'll do the same here.

Shoot....this is what happens when I multi-task. I'm really sorry. You all, of course are correct, it's the tenth doctor, not the ninth. I don't usually refer to them by the numbers, but by names. Again, I'm really really sorry. I'd delete my post so it's not a spoiler for anyone if that would be best, but I don't want to do the wrong thing. Let me know if that's what I should do. Again, really really sorry.

9 was a great reboot for Who. I wish he had stayed longer and we knew him better. He was very intense but had a more subtly funny side. He definitely grew on me on rewatch. 10 is definitely “my” Doctor though. If you started with him, that would be okay too.

Now I just have to say that the Donna Noble episodes were truly some of the best written ones in all the series and Catherine Tate (the actress) is really genius. The relationship between her and Ten was so tragically awesome and believably best mates. Oi! Watch it Spaceman!

Ok i'm not a 9 fan...i did go back and watch those episodes and i think it was worth it. there are plotlines that you will understand better if you watch his season. I would just get it done or do what i did....watch 10 and 11 and then go back and watch 9 just to understand more.

I agree, while 9 is not my favorite( i don't dislike him either, just indifferent) there are references to those episodes later in the series. Like each series there are episodes that are not as good as others( 2 part with the slvyines(sp?) to name one)

"I still miss Donna Noble. She's the best companion so far. "

Yes! I agree!!

While 9 is not my favorite, I did love the relationship between Rose and 9/10. Captain Jack!

9 Got me hooked, 10 made me a fan, 11 made me a whovian.

Don't skip Nine. Not my favorite, but the episodes with Capt. Jack Harkness are pearl and deserve to be watched repeatedly. In fact, I may need to go re-watch then again right no!

I'll be in the minority to, I've said on a couple threads 9 is my favorite.

So, yes, Just Tricia, you must, must watch all of them!!!!

And as others said, Captain Jack is not to be missed. Why oh, why did they take my Torchwood away?

Capt Jack is the only reason I like 9 at all. Heck he got a spin off because of it. And honestly the actor (John Barrowman) is the only reason I watch Green Arrow now. Other than that I dislike 9 as well.

Besides David (10) is my Doctor. And I'm another who thought Donna was the best companion! She is by far my favorite.

And one more for good measure...

The Doctor: I just want a mate.
Donna: You just want to mate?!
The Doctor: I just want a mate!
Donna: You're not mating with me, sunshine!
The Doctor: A mate! I want a mate!
Donna: Well, just as well, cos I'm not having any of that nonsense! You're just a long streak of nothing!

Since I started this thread I figured I'd update my results. While I still didn't care for Nine, I did finish watching him and I'm glad I did. Had I not, I wouldn't have gotten the full relationship between the Doctor and Rose and probably wouldn't have cried like a baby when Rose left. And I did, big, ugly, sobbing tears.

But now that I'm more than a season into Ten, I get it. I get the Doctor Who love.

(And, I hate when people update in the thread instead of the original post, but I'm only on my phone and tried to update but think I deleted the original post instead. Sorry.)

Yep, deleted it. Here's the original post:

I started watching Doctor Who on Netflix last year, which starts in 2005 I believe when the series restarted. I saw the first and half of the second episodes and just really didn't like it. I kept hearing how great it is, so I watched finale where Nine regenerates into Ten and then have watched a few episodes with him, and I GET IT now! I just didn't care for Nine. Will I miss anything by bypassing the Ninth's season? I know I've already missed out on the first eight.

I started with the 9th doctor, on the recommendation of everyone here and so far I love it. I think I'm on only the 6th or 7th episode though. But if I like it this much then I'll assume it will be even better when I get to the 10th doctor. lol.

I'm watching them on my iPad in bed at night so that's why I haven't gotten very far. I might do a marathon this week sometime though, since I will have the entire house to myself all day every day! woot!
